For this blog entry, let us give the spotlight to your #Binibini7 Shanon Jumaylh S. Tampon of Caloocan – the lady with the most interesting surname that is consistent with her lively/energetic personality.
Shanon could not give the most definitive origins of the Tampons in the Philippines, except for a good cluster of her ancestors living in the northern part of Cebu (Bantayan/Madridejos). Other than that, she is clear about everything else – her pageant plans in particular. Having joined Miss Philippines Earth 2019 and Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 while finishing in the Top 10 of #Promedia’s Miss Bikini Philippines before Bb. Pilipinas 2020, she feels that past experiences have prepared her for the more rigorous demands of the competition she is presently a part of. She is braver and more confident. And even if she admits to the need of leveling up her communication skills even more, she pours her time and effort to diligently training in the aspect of Q&A and the like.
Advocacy-wise, Shanon chose to delve on the fight against animal cruelty – a cause closest to her heart. At its core, she has been taking care of and looking after stray dogs and cats on top of the ones living inside their house compound. Reason why she is excited about the regular affiliation of BPCI with PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) and the help it extends to the group.
This beauty is aware that competing against 39 other Binibinis can be daunting for a first-timer. In her own small way, she helps guide her newbie sisters on how to tackle the ins and outs of the national beauty pageant game. As for her 22 year-old self, she is determined to make a good impression up to the Grand Coronation Night. She is passionate about winning a crown that would give her the right to represent the country internationally. And she won’t stop until this mission is accomplished.
Below is your blogger’s exclusive interview with Shanon conducted yesterday.
First off, Pauline C. Amelinckx has the unique bragging rights of having defeated the reigning Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados during Miss Bohol 2017 where the latter was named 1st Runner-Up.
The win propelled the tall, beautiful and eloquent Boholana-Belgian to level up to the nationals. And indeed, she was part of the highly competitive 50th Anniversary edition of Mutya ng Pilipinas where she was crowned as the country’s representative to Global Beauty Queen which was supposed to be hosted in Korea. Alas, that international beauty pageant did not push through, which left her upset for some time.
She was able to beautifully move on from the said chapter in her life. In fact, she was able to turn into hosting here in Manila and in the province, while doing runway shows for Designer Mikee Andrei and the like. And it’s looking like we’ll see more of her in 2020.
If you want a good speaker, then Pauline fits the bill. She also has continuing advocacies for the underprivileged in her home province of Bohol. With more polish, she can be a definite Miss Universe Philippines contender.
Who’s with me on Miss Amelinckx?
It’s our golden year!

Baka ikaw na nga ang natatanging Mutya!
On this, the 50th Anniversary Year of Mutya ng Pilipinas, the 2018 edition of the well-loved competition – with its ever-hardworking President Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo at the helm – promises to be the biggest one yet – with more beauties to conquer the national pageant stage, more excitement in all the pre-pageant activities and a grandiose production that will surpass all previous stagings combined. As the video above says, it will take more than beauty and brains to win the crown/s this year because the organizers will be looking for a new breed of Queens to bring pride and honor to the country.
Watch out for more about Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 soon!
While 2017 was such a fulfilling year for pageant coverages at normannorman.com, Joy, Joseph and I are looking forward to a really busy 2018 starting this January with the Bb. Pilipinas 2018 submission of application deadline and screenings, the mission of Katarina Rodriguez in Hurghada, Egypt for Miss Intercontinental 2018, the mock pageants of both Aces & Queens and Kagandahang Flores and the announcement of Official Binibinis who will vie for the six titles at stake come March 18 at the Araneta Coliseum. This month, I will also personally cover the Kuyamis Festival in Cagayan de Oro City and the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo with the crowning of their respective Queens.
The 50th Year of Mutya ng Pilipinas will also be worth looking forward to, as the organizers will have fifty (50) Official Candidates for the very first time.
But that’s getting far ahead of the year ahead. Here is a 30-second slideshow of what is in store for readers from January-June, 2018.
And in closing, allow me to share with you the specific segment of my TV interview guesting on CNN Philippines’ Rewind: 2017 Year-Ender Report with hosts Pinky Webb and Ruth Cabal plus the added bonus of having my favorite James Deakin in the panel.
This appearance completes a memorable 2017 that saw me on ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda (twice) and TV Patrol, GMA Network’s 24 Oras and on CNN Philippines’s The Source and On the Record. 😊
Happy New Year to all!
The country’s second-oldest existing national Beauty Pageant will celebrate an important milestone in 2018.
Mutya ng Pilipinas will turn Gold next year. And this could only mean that the next edition will be its biggest ever.
For starters, the organizers – headed by its President Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo will endeavor to assemble a total number of Fifty (50) Official Candidates coming from all over the country and the different Filipino Communities abroad. Aside from that, they will do the exceedingly demanding task of gathering all the previous titleholders, including those who previously joined but found success in other national beauty competitions.
I also reckon that there will be additional titles at stake to be formally awarded after the participation of Hannah Khayle Iglesia in the AMA Asian International Super Model Contest and Sofia Sibug in Global Beauty Queen.
This is going to be big. And normannorman.com will be there to bring it to you – being one of the accredited media partners of Mutya ng Pilipinas. Beyond quickie Facebook/Instagram posts and the like, our team will bring you the substance of its Golden Year.
And don’t get us started with the older national beauty search – the finals of which will take place earlier than the Lenten Week Observance.
Season’s Greetings from the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017 Queens!
