I have been involved with beauty pageants for as long as I can remember. I grew up on them. I savored – and continue to savor – every minute that I spend/spent following all of their events. And when I finally started my own blog back in 2009 (after several years of being affiliated with Mabuhay Pageants), my focus has become more hands-on and interpersonal. I have started gaining more contacts and colleagues in the industry. My social network has reached farther than I originally planned. And alongside with that, I have come to realize that this is the world I can definitely see myself growing old into.
Of course, I have no plans of getting stuck just in the fringes or the outer layer. Since I have already dipped both feet in the water, why not wade and start making light splashes in the process? It won’t be easy, but I will try to give it a healthy go. Starting 2016 perhaps? I won’t get into it with my eyes blindfolded, after all.
To my closest friends in the pageant scene, my plans have remained under wraps. I am keeping things close to my chest in the meantime. But soon, it may unfold in trickles till the time is ripe to spread my wings and become more than just a blogger in your eyes. 🙂

Four winners during their Urban Smiles appointment
During the first Sunday Casting Call, Arcel Yambing was one of a handful who made positive impressions to the panel. While he was both shy and uncertain then, it was clear that he had all the makings to become an Official Candidate. His sincerity as an individual was made more obvious during the four-on-one interview. And he got short-listed for the Final Callback after post-screening deliberations.

Onwards to the Second Sunday Casting Call which drew the most number of applicants. It was here when Reniel Villareal and Willan Pagayon tried their luck. The former was first to register and he immediately got the attention of everyone. His good looks, proper get-up and tempered impact combined to quickly get the nod of the judges. He also handled his interview with just the right amount of confidence.

On the other hand, Willan Pagayon presented himself with a constant smile on his face. He knew then that the people around were buzzing about him being a former national winner. But he didn’t mind. He went through the motions of getting screened and didn’t expect any special treatment whatsoever. I can distinctly remember his time with the panel which grilled him about a lot of things, cheesiness included. And he acquitted himself with a lot of flair. It was just a matter of waiting for the Final Callback date so he can claim his spot among the Official Candidates.

Rick Kristoffer Palencia was a different story altogether. He was considered a wildcard entry from Tacloban City who still needed to prove his worth during the grand callback. He showed up at Fisher Mall filled with optimism, but never made any quick assumptions about his chances of getting in as already in the bag. True enough, he went through the process of elimination like a true pro. And it would have been foolish for the judges to ignore his qualifications. He was chosen alright, and deservedly so.

The 20 year-old Filipino-Italian could not believe his good fortune at being able to visit the Swedish capital soon after collecting fond memories of the Philippines. There, he was met by male pageant franchise holder Precious Anne Medina for the black-and-tie event where he actually met local actor John Arcilla who is currently making waves in the Oscar-bound movie ‘Heneral Luna’, as well as some of the high society personalities in the organization.
More trips and cities to conquer for dear Kevin. Next stop, Hamburg, Germany come October 17!

Of the four, Mister International Philippines 2015 Reniel Villareal invites the biggest pressure with Neil Perez as the reigning Mister International. It’s not like going for a back-to-back win is impossible, but the odds are heavily stacked on the side of the Pagbilao, Quezon native, host delegate and all.
As for Mister Global Philippines 2015 Rick Kristoffer Palencia, the overseas mission to win the country’s first Mister Global victory is not any easier. But at the very least, he has no unnecessary strain going into the competition early next year, knowing that he has equal fighting chance as the rest, unlike the representative of Vietnam who will go for broke in following his compatriot’s victory last year.
Mister Model International Philippines 2015 Arcel Yambing has different concerns to deal with. First, his contest in Miami, Florida is already scheduled for November 9. He needs to apply for and successfully get a US Visa within the next few weeks. And to top it all, he may need to reinvent himself as a reliable runway and photographic model to bring in a more improved version of himself.
Lastly, Mister Tourism Philippines 2015 Willan Pagayon will need all the patience he can muster to wait for his turn to compete internationally. Judah Cohen will still banner the country’s participation in Mister Tourism International 2015 next month. So the ever-smiling Ilonggo will have to bear with another year-long cycle before being fielded in 2016. But hey, it will afford him a longer training period, and lots of potential pageant judging stints and personal appearance bookings in between.

The passing of the baton is now complete. The next lap has just started. And the run will be long and demanding. So all I can do for now is to ask them to take a much-needed rest first before plunging into preparations. Lord knows they need a short break to recharge their batteries and fine-tune their altered states pounded during the past three weeks. 😉
The top two winners got their titles as expected, while the two other new titleholders offered a bit of pleasant surprise after snatching victories during the finals of Misters 2015 The Pageant last night at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.
Reniel Villareal and Rick Kristoffer Palencia were named Mister International Philippines 2015 and Mister Global Philippines 2015, respectively. Arcel Yambing got the sweetest surprise of his life after being proclaimed Mister Model International Philippines 2015, while Willan Pagayon saved the 4th title after being chosen as Mister Tourism International Philippines 2015. Don Mcgyver Cochico got 1st Runner-up, while Kevin Fichera from FilComm Italy completed the magic circle as 2nd Runner-Up.
The four remaining candidates in the Top 10 are Ari Kane, Siegfried Bauer, Karan Singhdole and AR dela Serna.

My journey with Misters 2015 The Pageant is one filled with pride and joy. I have gotten to know thirty (30) candidates with diverse backgrounds and interests. But one common thread that held everyone together is the brotherhood that was gradually built throughout more than two weeks of bonding and togetherness.
How can I forget the more interesting personalities in this batch?
There is all-around comic relief Jake Camarines of Quezon City who never fails to make people smile and laugh in every turn.
There is serious-looking Marcel Stulir of Butuan City who is deceivingly distant but would easily warm up to people the minute he starts approaching you for questions he wants to be enlightened on.
There is Ari Kane of FilComm Victoria who is a child at heart but a grown-up learner who takes advises seriously and always improves on himself.
There is Kevin Fichera of FilComm Italy who looks and dances like a kid but brave enough to take a ‘balut’ challenge to seal his initiation into the brotherhood.
There is Jerome Tabayoyong of Pangasinan who always has a ready quote for any situation, be it funny or not. He is the resident profound thinker who gives kilometric answers to the shortest questions.
There is Reniel Villareal of Pagbilao, Quezon who should get the ‘Pinakamalambing’ award if there is one. He is clearly one of the sweetest among the 30.
There is Earlmond Ross Lee of Olongapo City who strikes you as a typical teenager but transforms into a violin master once performing onstage.
There is Jazzie Vasquez of Makati City who may look frail compared to his fellow candidates but is actually a lot stronger than most.
There is Jules Chan of FilComm Great Britain whose focus and dedication can put any Olympic Gold Medalist to shame.
And who could forget Karan Singhdole of Sta. Rosa who, despite being 100% Indian, is actually as Pinoy-sounding and -thinking as everyone else.
I can rattle off more. But suffice it to say that this is such a good group of young men who can prove that each one deserves to be a winner in the end.
And don’t get me started with an honor roll because there are so many bright and intelligent contenders among them.

I will let pictures do most of the work in this post about my Final Predictions for Misters 2015 The Pageant. Instead of going through a long list of personal impressions about each of the candidates, I thought it best to just share the names and faces of the ones who are very likely to soar higher than the rest in tomorrow night’s finals. Truth be told, two of the possible winners appear to be foregone conclusions by now that it’s just a matter of assigning which title fits them the most.

Rick Kristoffer Palencia, my choice for Mister International Philippines 2015
Rick Kristoffer Palencia of Tacloban City is a shoo-in for Mister International. He is good-looking, intelligent and with a favorable all-around disposition as an individual. He may not be the tallest, but he makes up for this sole limitation with much abundance in other fronts.
Reniel Villareal, my choice for Mister Global Philippines 2015
It’s toss-up between Arcel Yambing and Karan Singhdole for Mister Model International Philippines 2015, in my opinion.
The way I see it, Kevin Fichera and Willan Pagayon will fight for Mister Tourism Philippines 2015.
My two runners-up are Don Mcgyver Cochico and AR dela Serna
The long chapter of Misters 2015 The Pageant will reach its last two paragraphs very soon. The journey will be over for most of the thirty (30) candidates as less than a third of them will be left to continue the battle for Team Philippines 2015 in male pageantry. My only wish is for all the winners to step up and fill in the role model image with fire in their hearts. The honors do not have the easiest objectives to accomplish. But they come with the recognition that will change their lives forever.

After a long day of hotel check-in, unpacking and rehearsals, the Misters 2015 The Pageant candidates were treated to a tummy-filling dinner at Movie Stars Cafe along Seaside Blvd in MOA. Everyone was tired, but the minute they heard familiar upbeat music inside the entertainment/memorabilia restaurant, everyone jumped to the stage and danced their signature moves. They also had fun watching the cosplay shows of the house performers who did numbers from Star Wars, Frozen and The Avengers. It was time to unwind, but without anything hard washing down their thirst.
Today is another long day of rehearsals for all the Misters as they perfect their choreography, stage blockings and the like. And as the final day draws very near, each one of them is already feeling a tinge of sadness that the pageant brotherhood is about to end. Good thing they promised to be friends for life.
Oh, these last two days will be bittersweet for all. 🙂
