From a field of 113 beautiful candidates, one lady rose from the ranks and was crowned Miss World 2011 in glittering final rites held at Earl’s Court in London.
Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela was selected winner and in the process defeated a large group of competitors vying for the prestigious title held by last year’s Alexandria Mills of the US.
Making up her court of beauties are First Runner-Up Gwendoline Ruais of the Philippines (who should have won in my opinion) and Second Runner-Up Amanda Vilanova of Puerto Rico.
At the start of the live coronation, the list of 113 was trimmed down to just thirty (30) delegates with the highest preliminary scores and fast-track points. From here, their individual scores were shown on the way to revealing only fifteen (15) names who remained in contention for the crown. Afterwards, the Top 7 were announced and were then subjected to further scrutiny by the Board of Judges with a final Q&A.
Congratulations to all the winners, but most especially to Gwendoline Ruais for being the highest-placed Filipina in Miss World since 1973! 🙂
Picking just 20 from a field of 113 beautiful contenders is ultra-tough, to say the least. But that’s the way Miss World goes every year because they come up with just the longest list of joiners. And mind you, the great majority of them are not just country-fillers, but outstanding beauties.
So for 2011, here are my Top 20 choices presented in their individual video profiles (all courtesy of OfficialMissWorld) and in random order”

If I had to pick just my personal Top 5 (this is tough!) from the 20 ladies above, my shortlist would include:
Don’t forget to watch the Miss World 2011 Finals – to be aired live via satellite – tomorrow morning at 10:00AM over GMA-7. It’s a long weekend once more so there’s no reason not to catch the same! 😉
The Miss World 2011 delegates, all 122 of them, made a photo call appearance with media representatives during their London Eye Tour, including the Thames River, British Parliament and Big Ben. Jory Rivera, OPMB correspondent in London, caught up with Miss Philippines Gwendoline Ruais and was able to videotape a quick message from her. Watch below:

And so Miss Philippines made it to the Miss World 2011 Top Model semifinals. She is one of only 20 candidates chosen for this fast-track. She was pure elegance in her sexy red number from Hollywood-based Fil-Am designer Oliver Tolentino.
Things are really looking up for our girl in London. Hopefully, the string of good news continues from this point on. 😉
Following the Beach Beauty Competition of Miss World 2011, the Top Model segment will be conducted next. Keep in mind that the winners of these fast-tracks will move straight to the semifinals on coronation night come November 6.
Will Miss Philippines Gwendoline Ruais be selected to form part of the Top 20 Top Model aspirants’ list? Let’s keep our fingers crossed because our bet is more than qualified to ramp it up and give her more than 120 competitors a tough fight.
Good luck, Gwen! 😉
The Miss World 2011 Beach Beauty competition was conducted over the weekend, with all the 36 semifinalists out-posing each other to the max. One of them is our very own Gwendoline Ruais who was just scorching hot in her pink two-piece swimwear. She was literally a standout. Aside from her towering height, she was head-to-toe styled perfectly well for the fast-track sidebar to the main competition.
Can she come out on top in this one?
Next stop: The Top Model competition!

Below is the video profile of Miss World Philippines 2011 Gwendoline Ruais for the competition. Except for the less than desirable hair styling (or lack of it), I like what I saw and heard. She has an easy, laid-back vibe that adds up to a spontaneous aura in the 30-seconder.

Thoughts, anyone? 🙂
