Pimbongkod's Shadow Play of Siam NatCos for the 63rd Miss Universe
Some Thais are calling their National Costume for the 63rd Miss Universe ‘quirky and adventurous’. Having been accustomed to the more dramatic traditional ensemble for many years now, the “Shadow of Play Siam” that will be worn by Pimbongkod ‘Ellie’ Chankaew is a step towards a more modern take on the culturally-rich heritage of the country. The fans are happy with the final product, but unsure if it will get the nod as the best in Doral Miami next month.
Anyways, two of the evening gowns of Ellie were also presented in the same event and both pieces have the wow factor that will make heads turn, as well as compliment her uber statuesque frame at the same time.

Your thoughts, dear readers? 😉
According to reports, Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Pimbongkod Chankaew will wear the National Costume above for the competition.

In Thailand, there’s no question that they take their National Costumes very seriously – especially for Miss Universe purpose.
In a recent design competition to select what traditional attire Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Pimbongkod ‘Ellie’ Chankaew will wear in Doral Miami, the winner – Akarapawin Sophon – created a minimalist but tasteful ensemble called “Shadow of Siam”. And I like it that the final concept will be most appropriate for her tall proportions (safely over 6′ tall).
While I don’t visualize the end results to be a show-stopper, it still reckon that it will remain as a strong favorite for Best National Costume.
What do you think, dear readers? 🙂
Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Pimbongkod ‘Ellie’ Chankaew is showing the latest results of her transformation. She has undergone a couple of progressive improvements, like the number 32 ‘moving up’ to 35 now. (Of course you know what I’m referring to) And Khun Dang – the Thai counterpart of our Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta – must be smiling from ear to ear. She likes what she’s seeing, and won’t stop just yet.
How about you, dear readers? Do you like the changes in Ellie now? 😉
Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Pimbongkod Chankaew in one of her latest photos (taken last July 2)
When Pimbongkod “Ellie
” Chankaew replaced Weluree Ditsayabut as Miss Universe Thailand 2014, she was asked by her handlers to keep a low profile first so as to let her own kissing controversy die a natural death before stepping out in public as the new rep of the Land of Smiles in Miss Universe 2014.
Just the other day, she finally appeared in her first live TV interview on the news. First off, she apologized for the kissing photos and will work hard to become a worthy ambassadress of Thailand. She also promises to do her best for the big competition, and even went as far as promising her fans that she will develop six-pack abs. Now that’s something I will have to see for myself because we all know that it is definitely harder for the ladies to achieve that. Perhaps, she just meant rock-hard abs. And I am also interested to see her transformation a few months from now. 😉
And the organizers have decided. Ellie Chankaew will go to Miss Universe 2014
The Thai pageant fans are celebrating. They got their long-standing wish.
A new Miss Universe Thailand has been named.
And as expected, she is the 1st Runner-up Pimbongkod ‘Ellie’ Chankaew who will now assume the responsibility of representing the Land of Smiles in Miss Universe 2014.
The tall (1.79m) US-bred Ellie has been announced as the replacement of Weluree Ditsayabut who abdicated her title yesterday.
Some of our concerned Thai readers were actually surprised that there was so much sympathy for Weluree. They claim to know the actual reasons behind the opposition. And the details are just long and dizzying (embarrassing, if you will) that I opt not to share too much info anymore.
Anyways, that matter is settled. For now.
During the presscon, recently-crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Weluree ‘Faii’ Ditsayabut announced that she is abdicating her throne.
And she finally caved in.
After so much antagonism against her win that has tremendously affected her family and friends, Miss Universe Thailand 2014 Weluree ‘Faii’ Ditsayabut tearfully announced in a Press Conference that she is abdicating her title effective immediately.
While her 1st Runner-Up Ellie (Pimbongkod Changkaew) should have automatically succeeded Faii, the organizers (led by Khun Dang) have been keeping mum about the official replacement yet and has not made any commitments for the highly-favored 2nd placer to be sent to Miss Universe 2014 instead. While some online reports are stating that she has already been named as such, my mole in Bangkok intimated that there has not been any resolution so far.
Truth be told, Ellie has a kissing controversy all her own, but this was already set aside as a non-issue since it took place in the US where she grew up.
A tearful Faii
Now if Khun Dang so decides against Pimbongkod’s succession, there might be no Thai entry in Miss Universe 2014. At any rate, there is still optimism that something can be settled soon. She will hold her own Presscon tomorrow.
The Thais have given their ‘thumbs down’ to Weluree Ditsayabut

It doesn’t take a lot for the Thais to throw full support behind their Miss Universe Thailand winners, just like what they did to 2012’s Farida Waller and 2013’s Chalita Yaemwannang.
But the minute they smell something fishy and end up seeing someone they feel undeserving of the crown actually getting the same, they are just as extreme in withdrawing their support for their rep. And this is what’s happening with Weluree Ditsayabut who was crowned just last Saturday.
It doesn’t help that the girl is also hugging the news with her anti-red shirt quips. There are also floating remarks about all the negative qualities of Fai (Weluree’s nick). A Thai friend I chatted with mentioned that the finals was allegedly a big cooking show because the winner used to be a host in a teen show for Channel 3 (the airing network). And now that she won and has become ‘popular’ overnight, they will be showing a TV drama filmed before she joined the pageant. On the darker side, some resourceful pageant fans dug up dirt and even got clips of her swearing (in Thai). I was also told that she allegedly wears a tattoo on her breast.
The worst part is that they don’t care at all how Fai will be trained or transformed for Miss Universe. They don’t even care about what National Costume or Evening Gown she will wear. In short, they all have already switched allegiance to the upcoming Miss Thailand World 2014 where hopes are high that the genuinely best will win.
For now, the new miss Thailand Universe is trying to pick up the pieces of a slowly shattering start of her reign and is promising to rise above it all and do the Land of Smiles proud. We’ll see about that.
The Forty (40) Official Candidates of Miss Universe Thailand 2014
Thailand’s representative to Miss Universe 2014 will be crowned at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon at around 10:00pm tonight (around 11:00pm Manila time), along with the country’s bets to Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Tourism Queen International. Among the forty (40) hopefuls, I have filtered my choices carefully.

Six of my picks for Miss Universe Thailand 2014
Ellie (shown above with Chalita) could be top favorite to win.
Come May 17, Miss Universe Thailand 2014 will be crowned at the Royal Paragon Hall in Bangkok’s Siam Paragon. But before that, the forty (40) Official Candidates will “camp out” (training-cum-sightseeing-cum-filming) in Ror Et, Thailand first before heading out to the big city for the finale. I have studied the beauties vying for the top crown and short-listed a handful of ladies with good potentials to figure out well.
Khun Dang (Thailand’s version of our Madame Stella) may have her eyes set on 19 year-old Pasadena import Pimbongkod Changkaew (English name: Ellie) who is one of the two tallest contenders at 1.78m. Aside from being a statuesque beauty, she is also fluent in English and with nice cheekbones that register well on-cam. On the other hand, I have my sights on a shorter but very Thai-charming 24 year-old lass named Kanokphan Apichaianant (English name: Eve) who may be only 1.70m but has very long hair and winsome features that could augur well for a possible post-reign showbiz career if she wins.
