Miss Universe Thailand 2012 Farida Waller (L) and Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 Kimberly Leggett – both lovely but looking too foreign relative to the authentic Thai and Malaysian faces we are all used to seeing in past Miss Universe competitions.
Online forums – particularly the ones where Thai and Malaysian pageant enthusiasts heavily converge – keep on comparing their respective beauty queens to no end. Short of saying that the two could be sisters, there’s always this debate on who is the better-looking titleholder: Farida Waller or Kimberly Leggett. Both mixed-race beauties are seen to lead the surge of Asian beauties in Miss Universe 2012. Of course, I am 100% behind our very own Janine Tugonon all the way. But if it is just about selecting who looks better, I would easily pick Farida over Kimberly. The latter has the height (5’10”) advantage, but the former has more appealing facial features. Not that we’d stop at skin-deep comparisons, but both will not lag behind in English fluency as well. If at any, Farida can additionally speak Thai and German.
Personality-wise, Kimberly slightly edges out Farida in terms of bubbliness and candor. Her biggest advantage, though, is the fact that her training for Miss Universe has been running for almost a year now. And it will clearly show once she presents herself wherever this year’s edition will be held. After the 2011 disappointment of Deborah Priya Henry in Sao Paulo, the organizers are working hard to insure that their bet this year will achieve at least a semifinal slot.
How about you, dear readers? Team Farida or Team Kimberly? 😀
Farida Waller is Miss Universe Thailand 2012
Farida Waller, a 22 year-old Thai-Austrian beauty, was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2012, and will now represent the Land of Smiles in Miss Universe 2012. The Liberal Arts-English major, whose dream is to become a Foreign Diplomat someday, stands 5’8″ and measures 32-23-36. She made waves during the finals when she nailed the Q&A ahead of the other ladies in the Top 15. Placing 1st Runner-Up (and also named Miss Earth Thailand 2012) is Warrataya Wongchayaporn.

Congratulations, Farida and Warrataya! 🙂
Gearing up for the national finals on June 2, the 44 Official Candidates of Miss Universe Thailand 2012 are being prepped up for the glitz and glamour of the competition. Coronation Night will be held at the fab Siam Pavalai Royal Grand Theatre of Siam Paragon. At the moment, all hopefuls are based in Phitsanulok before eventually moving to Bangkok for final rehearsals and the like. Last year’s winner – Chanyasorn Sakornchan – will be on hand to crown her successor who will compete in Miss Universe 2012 this coming December.
Click on the images above if you want to scrutinize each delegate better. So far, the five girls I’m liking are pictured below.

But the one who I think has the upper hand right now is #3 Sirin Praiwutpipatkul, 21, 5’11” and studying to become a Doctor. Let’s see if she can be molded into a Farung Yuthitum. 😉
Miss Tiffany Universe 2011 winners (L-R) 1st Runner-Up Saranrat “Nat” Chaiyakorn, winner Sirapasson “Sammy” Atthayakorn, and 2nd Runner-Up Tissanamadi “Gigi” Bunniyom.
Thank-you-girls in Miss Tiffany Universe 2011 Waranya “Tam” Wongchayanon (L) and Reya “Bank” Meelaksap are even more beautiful than their female counterparts in the Miss Thailand Universe last year.
My Bangkok mole (Sawasdee khap, Joey!) informed me that there are already a lot of Thai transgenders who have formally applied for Miss Universe Thailand 2012 which will have its coronation night on June 2, 2012. Right now, the status of their applications remain on hold until tomorrow, May 16, when Khun Dang (Thailand’s version of Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta) will announce once and for all if she will greenlight the joining of transgenders in the national pageant, i.e., after she has meticulously screened all the natural-born women entrants (which will wrap up today).
Will Thais be the first Asians (or the first of any nationality in the world for that matter) to have a transgender Miss Universe bet? Stay tuned for more updates! 😉
