1974 Miss Universe Amparo Munoz of Spain passed away last February 27 in her home in Malaga due to an undiclosed illness at the age of 56. She will be remembered as the one and only Spanish delegate to have won the Miss Universe crown to date in a pageant held in Manila, Philippines. Sadly, she gave up the crown before her reign was over.
She became a famous actress in her country and starred with a number of Spain’s most popular actors during the mid-70s onwards. She once starred in a local movie with 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz and actor Vic Vargas but copies of that movie are already lost and unrecovered.
There were talks in recent years that Amparo might have contracted AIDS but she openly denied the rumor and claimed that she is suffering from a cerebral disease.
May her soul rest in peace.
