Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2012 and Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez just lost her battle with the Big C. She passed away this morning. She will forever be remembered as the strong and beautiful Filipina who showed to the world her extraordinary courage and spirit.
My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
Rest in peace, Rizzini. 😦
Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2012 and Miss Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez needs your prayers. According to a reliable source, she is terminally ill with lung cancer.
I’m just as baffled as everyone else how the beautiful Cebuana – a health professional no less – contracted the disease. But we all know that the dreaded Big C can afflict any individual. It is possible that she has a weak part in her system that might have led to the same.
This is the main reason why she was unable to crown Angeli Dione Gomez as her back-to-back country successor during Miss Tourism International 2013. Being the real trouper, she still departed for Kuala Lumpur. But then again, her health condition got in the way of fulfilling her responsibilities as the outgoing titleholder.
It is never too late to ask for a miracle. But for now, let us pray for the ease of constant pain. More than the fact that she has given honor to the country in the international pageant stage, Rizzini is like a sister to all of us.

And will the Philippines achieve an exciting back-to-back win in the pageant? 😉

What a way to welcome 2013 for the Philippines in the international beauty pageant scene!
Mutya ng Pilipinas – Tourism International 2012 Rizzini Alexis Gomez is now Miss Tourism International 2012/2013 after she bested 55 other delegates for the title during the finals held at the Grand Ballroom of Sunway Resort & Spa. It is the Philippines’ second victory in the Kuala Lumpur-based beauty competition after Esperanza Manzano grabbed the very first back in 2000. She was crowned by last year’s winner Aileen Gabriella Robinson of Malaysia.
Her runners-up include Monika Radulovic of Australia, Marielis Alejandra Castellanos Perez of Venezuela, Lourdes Maria del Carmen Motta Rolon of Paraguay and Jun Yong Wan Jun of Malaysia, in that order.
After a failed attempt at Binibining Pilipinas last April, and a semifinal placement in Miss World Philippines two months later, it appears that Rizzini’s best fortune is with Mutya. The Cebuana Registered Nurse will come home to the Philippines an international winner no less. Spending Christmas and New Year away from home proved to be well worth it indeed!
Hooray to our new international beauty queen!
Congratulations, Rizzini! Mabuhay ka! 😀
Clockwise, from top left: Miss Universe 2012 First Runner-Up Janine Tugonon; Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet; Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner-Up Elaine Kay Moll; Miss International 2012 Semifinalist Nicole Schmitz; Miss World 2012 Semifinalist (8th Place) Queenie Rehman; Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot; Mr. World 2012 1st Runner-Up Andrew Wolff and Miss Earth 2012 Miss Air Stephanie Stefanowitz.
2012 was a very good year in Philippine Pageantry. And the honors weren’t just limited to mainstream beauty competitions for beautiful Filipinas. We also conquered both its Male and Transgender counterparts. A quick litany reads like an enviable record for other pageant-loving nations. Topping it all are placements in the Big 4: 1st Runner-Up in Miss Universe 2012, 1st Runner-Up (Miss Air) in Miss Earth 2012 plus Top 15 Semifinalist placements in Miss World 2012 and Miss International 2012. For Miss Supranational 2012, we also made it to Top 5 by taking 3rd Runner-Up honors. And then there is Mr. World 2012 with a 2nd place finish, preceded by a well-deserved win in Manhunt International 2012. Not to be outdone is the first-ever victory of the Philippines in Miss International Queen 2012. Whew! And I’m not yet adding a Top 5 reach of Janicel Lubina in the lesser-known Miss Scuba International or the Top 15 semis slot in Miss Asia Pacific World of Grendel Alvarado, plus last night’s victory of Rizzini Alexis Gomez as Miss Tourism International 2012!
All of these achievements by our representatives give the country excellent reasons to look forward to 2013 with unbridled enthusiasm.
Stay with me and together, we will journey into the Year of the Snake as our sash-wearers continue to slither (pun intended) their way to the top of the pageant world.
Happy New Year to one and all!!! 😀

Newly-victorious Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot (middle) and Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet (right) when they both guested on Tonight with Arnold Clavio.
I briefly watched ‘Tonight with Arnold Clavio’ on GMA News TV the other evening and was pleasantly surprised to see both Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot and Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet as guests. I’m happy for the wins of these two individuals. Confidence can be seen in their actions, but not without expressing humility as well.
So after their consecutive wins in Thailand, can a third title be in the offing before the year ends? You see, there is a popular saying that good luck comes in threes. And excluding Miss Earth, more than a few competitions are still waiting to be held. There’s Mr. World in London, Miss Universe in Las Vegas, Miss Tourism Queen International in China, Miss Tourism International in Kuala Lumpur and even Miss Scuba International in Bali. So take your pick. Where could that next victory come from? 😉

She came 3 times. She saw 3 times. She conquered on the 3rd time.
Rizzini Alexis Gomez must believe in the trite saying “winners never quit, quitters never win.’ For this bright-eyed Cebuana, quitting was never an option. After two consecutive disappointments with both Bb. Pilipinas and Miss World Philippines, her efforts were finally rewarded with a Mutya ng Pilipinas crown. Observers may say that her beauty pageant route went from top of the hill down considering that her third (and only successful) attempt was with the least prestigious national pageant in the country. But that doesn’t diminish the fact that she is now a Beauty Queen who will represent us in the Miss Tourism International 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 31 where the reigning winner is last year’s host delegate Aileen Gabriella Robinson.
The title may not be as lustrous and the pageant assignment may not be as widely talked-about, but the fact is that she will still be wearing the Philippine sash in hopes of bringing the honor back to our shores. Let’s wish her the best of luck! 😉

It was a night of ‘back-to-the-basics’ beauty competition. Call it a throwback to the 90s as Mutya ng Pilipinas 2012 culminated in the crowning of its winners where two (instead of four) titles were actually conferred but with the two runners-up getting crowns almost the same size as of one of the top finishers.

Right at the onset, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Intercontinental 2012 Camille Guevarra seemed to be just waiting for the formal announcement as she was obviously favored the most (even her couturier was given a sash and a cash prize for being picked as Best Designer). The 5’9″ Kapampangan
will now represent the country in Miss Intercontinental to be held in Spain later in the year. As for Rizzini Alexis Gomez, she finally got her wish when she clinched the Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International title after two consecutive (albeit unsuccessful) attempts at Bb. Pilipinas and Miss World Philippines. This Cebuana
will now be Kuala Lumpur-bound for the Miss Tourism International in Malaysia which is traditionally held during New Year’s Eve.
The two runners-up are Emma Tiglao and Larah Grace Lacap. I’m not sure if these two ladies will be sent to international tilts abroad, as it will depend on the organizers’ dealings with Miss Tourism Queen of the Year in China and if the Miss Asia-Pacific International will even be hosted (possibly in China as well) at all.
Congratulations to all the winners! 😀
