courtesy of MrSuperBlackDragonBack in 2013, the entire Philippines was supremely surprised when Mutya Johanna Datul was crowned Miss Supranational 2013 and effectively defeated 82 other candidates for the crown. It wasn’t that nobody ever expected her to snatch a good placement. But to actually win the whole thing and become the first Asian (and Filipina) to be named as such started lightning streaks of anticipated wins that made the Philippines “Country of the Year” in international pageantry.
To date, Mutya has never changed. She is still the sweet lady who is proof that being beautiful, unaffected and innocently sincere can score big when fielded in a sea of beautiful women from across the globe.
Here is Mutya’s Facebook post reminiscing her win more than three years ago today:
Three years ago, I had experienced a wonderful moment in my life – winning the title MISS SUPRANATIONAL 2013. It was a once in a lifetime journey that I will never forget. I made a lot of travels, met different people and experienced lots of things I never imagined would come my way. This year, another girl will get the same chance I had three years ago. I hope that she is an epitome of kindness, beauty and responsibility. I congratulate Miss Supranational Team headed by Gerhard Parzutka Von Lipinski and all the people who works tirelessly to give everyone a “Supra Show”. Salamat and MABUHAY!

Tonight (or early tomorrow morning in Manila), a new Miss Supranational will be crowned. She could be another Filipina or a first-time country winner. Regardless, this pageant has come a long way despite its toddler years. Let’s hope the most deserving candidate tales the crown. 🙂
