And so it has come to pass. The Top 3 finishers of Miss South Africa 2020 have been given their respective international pageant assignments. Strategy or not, the organizers know enough that putting these three ladies in the most appropriate competition would do well for everyone:
Natasha Joubert for Miss Universe
Shudufhadzo Musida for Miss World
Thato Thelma Mohsele for Miss Supranational
Your thoughts about their placements, dear readers?
So just shortly before the finals telecast of Miss Universe Philippines 2020, one of her opponents in the next edition of Miss Universe has also been crowned.
Below is the full show.
24-year-old Shudufhadzo Musida from Limpopo was crowned Miss South Africa 2020 at the pageant finale held for the first time in Cape Town on Saturday.
Shudufhadzo has a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pretoria and is currently doing her BA Honours in International Relations at the University of Witwatersrand.
She will receive R1 million in cash as well as a further R2 million worth of sponsorships and prizes, including the use of a luxury Sandton apartment and a Mercedes-Benz cabriolet for a year.
First runner-up is medical doctor Thato Mosehle (25) from Klerksdorp in the North West who receives R250 000 in cash. Second runner-up Natasha Joubert (23), a B Com graduate from Pretoria, Gauteng, collects R100 000.
For the first time in the history of the Miss South Africa pageant, the trio will represent the country at the world’s three most prestigious pageants. – Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Supranational.
It has not been announced who will be representing South Africa at which international pageant.
Let’s play something cool. If Miss Universe Philippines 2020 would do a Miss South Africa 2020 and announce their Top 15 Semifinalists first en route to trimming them down to Top 10 Finalists to exclusively compete for the crown on Finals Night, who will make up your building blocks?
Right now, there are still fifty (50) #PhenomenalWomen vying for the crown. And I have heard many saying that the number shouldn’t be that big.
Sharing with you now video of the Brand South Africa Empowerment Workshop of the Miss South Africa 2020 Top Ten Finalists. The way I see it, this is where the next level of national and international pageantry is headed to – creating more than just a physical presentation and advocacy to work on but preparing the ladies for mid-term and long-term plans that will set them up for a future beyond the platform and pageants in general.
Some of you might think that developments like this may tend to spoil the entertainment value of an event we have embraced since the 1960s. But with the world around us constantly changing, something’s gotta give without necessarily removing the parts we enjoy the most. We have looked at pageant candidates as entertainers for the longest time. Let us try to upgrade our vision for them – with or without a crown on top of their heads.
Presenting to you now the Miss South Africa 2020 Top Ten Finalists who will compete for the big national crown on October 24.
I am truly awed by the quality of these ladies. But for now, I am pinning my hopes on Melissa Nayimuli, Natasha Joubert, Jordan van der Vyver and Aphelele Mbiyo.
It can be quite tricky to pick just three words to describe one’s self. So when the Miss South Africa 2020 Top 15 were asked to do just that, the tendency is for one to unintentionally replicate the answer of another. So what to do? Come up with three words that end with a punch. Just like Savannah Schutzler in the video below.
You have seen their individual official photos. Now hear them speak about what their plans will be if given the bigger platform of becoming the next Miss South Africa. I have always believed that listening to their voices can give a whole new impression to their impact as potential winner. Sure, there may still be one or two who sound rehearsed. But overall, these ladies are showing their empowered spirits.
I am particularly leaning towards Aphelele Mbiyo, Melissa Nayimuli (loving her aura!) and Savannah Schutzler at this point.
Please share your thoughts after watching the video below.
When the organizers of Miss South Africa 2020 announced their 15 Semifinalists, I was literally blown away by the quality of the contenders. The ladies are like a cross between Miss Universe and America’s Next Top Model to the next level. I can pick my 5 favorites and still be left with another 5 strong contenders for the crown. Werner Wessels definitely has an eye – not just for beauty – but for aspirants who offer more than the looks and brains. I bet a lot of them offer more than dreams of winning the crown and achieving a rare back-to-back with Zozibini Tunzi, but also the mid-term and long-term plans to go beyond the glitz and glamour of becoming a Miss.
Their professions vary – from two Medical Doctors to a Food Scientist to an International Model to a Law Student to a PR Officer to an Actress to those who are in the Honours program of their respective University degrees and more.
Check them out:

From the fifteen (15) above, my Top 5 for now are:
Hi! Norman here. When I'm not working, I spend most of my free time planning on daily blogs. If you will notice, I always make sure that a fresh topic comes out everyday - not an easy thing to do but it's all good. Thanks for dropping by and enjoy the visit!
