Cristelle Tolentino: Taking the Mutya ng Pilipinas Challenge

Cristelle Tolentino has crossed over from Miss Republic of the Philippines to Miss Manila and now, Mutya ng Pilipinas

And so her pageant career continues. Cristelle Tolentino, that’s who. Fresh from relinquishing the Miss Manila crown to Maria Gail Tobes last month, she suited up for her next challenge back to the national level. She is Candidate #3 of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2017.

You will remember Cristelle as taking part in the re-activated Miss Republic of the Philippines more than two years ago where she made it to the semifinals. That was the start that triggered her interest in beauty contests. And mind you, she is not your run-of-the-mill joiner. A Cum Laude graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, she comes as an articulate 23 year-old who knows her personal style and how to express her thoughts with clarity. Given her experience in the City of Manila, she brings to the table a wealth of knowledge about Tourism and the like – the specific focus of Mutya ng Pilipinas.

The degree of difficulty is higher this time around for Cristelle. And she knows it too well that upping her game plan is a must. Let’s see how the next couple of weeks will pan out. During yesterday’s Press Presentation, she was one of the standouts. The mission for now is to push herself up and be one of the favored ones for the titles at stake.

Your Binibini 5: Joselle Mariano

Binibini 5 Joselle Mariano comes to you from Cavite


Joselle “Elle” S. Mariano – as I have previously blogged – has already made the rounds of different national beauty contests the past few years with the revived Miss Republic of the Philippines as her personal best to date by winning Miss Luzon.

Elle is 21 years old and a Tourism major from Cavite State University Main. She was a National Champion Swimmer – a sport she started to get good at the minute she made her splash in the olympic-sized pools when she was only 8. She began competing for nationals since grade 4 up to college. A peak in her participation in this aquatic discipline happened last 2010 during a swim in the Guinness Book of World Records held at the Diliman Preparatory School. She loves to sing, specially classical music. She also dances, while dabbling in calligraphy and some water color paintings.

How does being an Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas 2017 strike her?

“Becoming a certified Binibini is already a big achievement for me. To make it this far is something that brings out endless excitement (and nervousness) on my part. Now that I am your Binibini 5, I’m all set to conquer the stage of Binibining Pilipinas 2017! Get ready for Elle!”

Will Binibini 5 be a strong contender for Bb. Pilipinas 2017?


Elle may be an independent delegate for now, but only time will tell if she will eventually be taken in by one of the two big camps in the days to come. 🙂

Joselle Mariano is gearing up for Bb. Pilipinas 2017


Joselle Mariano has been seen taking the pageant route from Mutya ng Pilipinas 2013 to Miss Philippines Earth 2014 to Miss Republic of the Philippines 2015. In the last of the three, she achieved her personal best performance so far by getting Miss Luzon (or 1st Runner-Up in rank). This year, she is upping the stakes by gearing up for what could be her biggest challenge so far – Bb. Pilipinas 2017.

KF-trained Joselle knows the ins and outs of the beauty contest game by now. And she has prepared well for the nationals. Before the weekend, she would have already filed her application at the BPCI office and well on her way to the bloody screenings next week. I say bloody because the 54th edition is seen by many as the toughest so far with the number of interested ladies exceeding the past number of years.

Will she make it?

Krizzia Lynn Moreno of Camarines Sur: Bound for Bb. Pilipinas 2016?


This girl, Krizzia Lynn Moreno, represented Camarines Sur during Miss Republic of the Philippines just over a month ago. She made the semifinals of that search. Tall and brainy, she graduated Magna cum Laudefrom the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Travel Management. She stands 5’9″ and is actually an articulate speaker, especially that her course thrives in social relations and public delivery of travel and tourism-related advisories.  

Kia is not affiliated with any particular beauty camp for now. Her independent handlers are still weighing their options. But I think it won’t be long till she finds a nesting place for her training and physical improvement sessions.

Remember her name – Krizzia Lynn Moreno. She is practically a guaranteed enlister for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. And I won’t be surprised if she gets a totally different styling for the nationals. 🙂

The twenty (20) homegrown candidates of Miss Republic of the Philippines have now been selected

The twenty (20) Official “Homegrown” Candidates of Miss Republic of the Philippines have finally been selected during the Final Screening held at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City. These ladies will now be joined by the twenty (20) other contenders coming from Filipino Communities abroad. Pageant owner Lynette Padolina led the screening panel, along with personalities in the business, fashion and entertainment fields.

Coronation night of the pageant will be on November 8. But between now and that date, the selected final qualifiers will be immersed in more training and personality development in order to groom them for the more demanding aspects of the competition.

missrplogo1 This coming Thursday afternoon, September 3, at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City, the Final Screening of Miss Republic of the Philippines Beauty Pageant will be conducted. The Official Candidates will have been known after months of continuous search. While the finals won’t be until November 8 in order to give way for the overseas candidates to take time off from their schooling and commitments, the homegrown contenders will get a slight headstart in terms of training and the like.

Let’s see who will finally make it to the list of Top 20 and compete for the two crowns alongside the same number representing Filipino Communities abroad. 🙂

As the great Poet Robert Browning once said, “Grow old with me! The best is yet to be.” 

Thank you so very much for all your genuine wishes and greetings for me as I celebrated my birthday. You guys are incredible.

I had a simple but wonderful time with my family today. But what made it extra special are the endless streams of thoughtfulness on my timeline. I don’t mind replying to each and everyone of you who remembered (thanks to Facebook as well for the gentle reminder). After all, it’s not in my nature to hold on to my ‘thank-you’ message until the last greeting has been sent.

Thank you to my family members who continuously stand by me no matter what the trying problems and situations bring.

Thank you to all my extended family members whose unwavering support keep me moving on amidst whatever storm/s I need to weather.

Thank you to my friends and colleagues who have now become my sorority sisters of sorts in traipsing through the exciting world of pageantry.

Thank you to my blog readers and followers who lift up my spirits everytime I post a new feature in the hopes of inciting a new round of discussions and banters. Even the silent lurkers who take a peek inside my site on a regular or intermittent basis, thank you for the click and the read. Making normannorman.com a daily habit is something that warms my heart to no end.

Thank you to the beauty queens who have become either my personal friends or pleasant acquaintances. You never fail to make me feel beautiful with your presence, either online or in person.

Thank you to the pageant organizers who have trusted me enough to cover or blog about their competitions. I will never get tired of heralding your efforts to promote the true beauty of the Filipina and the unstinting gentlemen qualities in the Filipino. 

Special thanks to Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Miss World Philippines, Miss Republic of the Philippines and Misters 2015 The Pageant for always recognizing my efforts to write about you.

Lastly, thank you Lord for another year. My life is so much sweeter because I know that there is always Someone up there to guide me through all the ups and downs of my existence. This year has been a mighty challenging one for me so far. But faith has kept me in good stead.

From Australia to Bacolod, here are six of the early birds for Miss Republic of the Philippines

wpid-wp-1437029538922.jpeg Just when you think it’s all quiet on the Miss Republic of the Philippines front, here comes a string of images showing some of the ladies who are already confirmed Official Candidates of the contest. And most of them are the ones from Filipino Communities abroad.

I’m not giving out the names just yet (so as not to preempt the formal announcement), but feast your eyes on the ladies from North Carolina, Kentucky, Austria, Australia, Rome, Bacolod, Gensan and Guimaras Island. Most of them won individual searches that awarded them the right to automatically participate in the competition proper.

And the list will get even longer with the Final Screening scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at the Fisher Mall in QC. The names of the homegrown bets will be finalized. And soon, they will prepare themselves for the Miss RP ride of their lives.

The July 11 screening at Fisher Mall

Come July 21, or Tuesday next week, the final national screening of Miss Republic of the Philippines will be held at Fisher Mall to determine the complete line-up of Official Candidates who will vie for the crown. Expect a more jam-packed event as the ladies still in contention will try to outshine each other to get a place in the Top 20 slots which will usher in the qualifiers into a totally different world that will seek to bring out their beauty and intelligence.

And just to let you in on the schedule of activities awaiting them, below is a list of future events that will keep them busy all throughout the pre-pageant period leading to the finals night on September 9 (venue to be announced soon).

Miss Republic of the Philippines NCR Screening on July 11

Please take note of all the details so you can come prepared for the screening

This coming Saturday, July 11 at 2:00PM , the 2nd NCR Screening of Miss Republic of the Philippines Beauty Pageant will be conducted at Fisher Mall in Quezon City.

Please make sure that you bring the required outfits/accessories as specified above.

For those who will pass this hurdle, you will definitely get a callback for the NCR and national final screening on July 21 (also at Fisher Mall) where this year’s Official Candidates will be selected by the committee headed by its President and CEO Lynette Padolina.
