The 24 Official Candidates of Mr & Miss Hannah’s EcoTourism Philippines 2017
In a contest like Mr & Miss Hannah’s EcoTourism Philippines (now on its 4th year), one would think that it was easy judging the participants and cutting them in half just to come up with the Official Candidates. Well, not if the joiners are really promisingly beautiful and handsome – still raw for the big league but already oozing with potentials for future joining.
Last night, I spent the time selecting the young men and women who will form part of the finalists who will vie for the above-mentioned competition that has strong alliances with Miss Philippines Earth. There were 48 qualifiers for the final callback and it was the duty of the panel (which included beauty queens Jennifer Hammond, Leren Mae Bautista and Glennifer Perido along with Carousel Productions’ Peachy Veneracion, Renee Salud, yours truly and the generous owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort – (Ret) Col. Ricardo Nolasco Jr.) to choose the 24 Official Candidates. It was supposed to be just 10 males and 10 females, but the field was so strong that an exception for this year had to be made to accommodate two extra heads per division.
Anyways, the chosen ones will vie for the title come May 13 at Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. Two of them will follow the footsteps of previous titleholders who are now familiar in pageantry such as Sarah Bona, Meryl Angeline King and Karan Singhdole.
Good luck to everyone who made it! 🙂

Joselle Mariano is gearing up for Bb. Pilipinas 2017
Joselle Mariano has been seen taking the pageant route from Mutya ng Pilipinas 2013 to Miss Philippines Earth 2014 to Miss Republic of the Philippines 2015. In the last of the three, she achieved her personal best performance so far by getting Miss Luzon (or 1st Runner-Up in rank
). This year, she is upping the stakes by gearing up for what could be her biggest challenge so far – Bb. Pilipinas 2017.
KF-trained Joselle knows the ins and outs of the beauty contest game by now. And she has prepared well for the nationals. Before the weekend, she would have already filed her application at the BPCI office and well on her way to the bloody screenings next week. I say bloody because the 54th edition is seen by many as the toughest so far with the number of interested ladies exceeding the past number of years.
Will she make it?
Good luck to you, Joselle! 🙂
Will she be one of the Binibinis for 2017?
Imelda during her TV interview on The Source of CNN Philippines
Imelda with host Pinky Webb
To say that it ain’t easy being Imelda Schweighart nowadays is a big understatement. She is now the former Miss Philippines Earth 2016 (replaced by Loren Mar Artajos
) who is trying to move on with life and restoring “normalcy” to the once-quiet existence she enjoyed before jumping back into the pageant scene and even stretching her presence in the international level.
In the interview with Pinky Webb on CNN Philippines’ “The Source”, you may see her as being nice and goody-two-shoes, but the honesty (however sanitized) remains evident in the way she answers and expresses her thoughts, especially about the snowballing doubts about being Miss Philippines Earth and the country’s delegate to Miss Earth.
Watch now and tell me your thoughts after, dear readers.
The Daragang Magayon 2015, which forms part of the Daragang Magayon Festival in Legazpi City, Albay, has always been a favorite regional beauty pageant of mine. For one, it has always been a rich source of beautiful Bicolanas who have the promising potentials of becoming candidates in national competitions like the Bb. Pilipinas, Miss Philippines Earth and Miss World Philippines. In the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas 2015 alone, Binibinis Mae Liezel Ramos, Princess Joy Camu, Ina Dominica Guerrero and Marvi Ann de Lima are proud products of the said tilt. But the more popular ones include Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Santiago and the late Bb. Pilipinas International 2009 Melody Gersbach.
And with the formal opening of this year’s festival on April 6 at the Albay Astrodome, here now are the twenty (20) Official Candidates for this year’s crown (Photos by Tyrone John). They are vying to become the successor of reigning winner Jacqueline Bernarte in the finals scheduled for April 28.
Below now are my early favorites to do well in the finals scheduled late next month.
My early choices from among the twenty are 1) Carmela Michelle Dolmer of Daet, Camarines Norte
Six of my early favorites for Daragang Magayon 2015
2) Francia Layderos of Libon, Albay
3) Claire Armena of Legazpi City
4) Marie Sherry Ann Tormes of Nabua, Camarines Sur
5) Christine Arnedo of Legazpi City
6) Jenicca Jeremias of Ligao City
Binibini 27 Ina Dominica Guerrero
After having made the rounds of Miss Philippines Earth 2012 and Miss World Philippines 2014 – aside from screening for Bb. Pilipinas 2013 where she missed the Official Candidates cut
– Ina Dominica Guerrero of Daraga, Albay finally made it to this year’s nationals. And she is now Binibini 27.
This Bicolana has come a long way, and she should be reaching full circle with Bb. Pilipinas 2015. Gone are the days in the province when she would sport long kinky hair in the regional beauty contests. And if her styling is still a work in progress for some, it’s because her perfect look is yet to be achieved. But if the screenings last week are to be used as gauge, she could be finally getting the best possible aura that balances her dusky color with a mildly fairer skin tone.
Let’s see if now is the right time for Ina to take her spot centerstage while proving her qualities in becoming a true Bb. Pilipinas. 😉
After several stints in other national pageants, Bb. Pilipinas 2015 should be an acid test for her.
Is your blogger being sandwiched by two future Miss Philippines Earth possibilities? Will Diana Arevalo join next year after Ross Misa in the current edition?
We all know that Mary Anne Ross Misa is currently in the thick of the fight and hoping to become Miss Philippines Earth 2014 before mid-May. As of now, she has become one of the favorites to nail the crown during the finals at SM MOA Arena.
But how about Diana Arevalo? I hear that after disappointment over the results of Bb. Pilipinas 2014, she is now more open to spreading her wings furthermore before it becomes so dangerously late (age-wise, that is). Will she take the more environmental route and hook up with Miss Philippines Earth 2015?
Just thinking out loud while gracefully trying to outpose these beautiful ladies. 😉
