“I’m Thoreen D. Halvorsen, 24 years old and I am from the province of Palawan. I am half Norwegian and half Filipino. I was born and raised in a small island in Port Barton called San Vicente. It is a very beautiful place where you can find the longest beach in the country.

I joined Miss Philippines Earth back in 2012 and was crowned as Miss Philippines Fire. I wasn’t expecting to join a beauty pageant again after 5 years because I was just so busy with school, being a graduating student taking up Consular and Diplomatic affairs at De la Salle College of Saint Benilde. During my college days back in 2015, I was part of the National Model United Nations team for Europe and that experience trained me especially in public speaking.

Now I am so blessed to be part of Bb. Pilipinas and as a first timer, I am enjoying every moment of it and my co-Binibinis are equally amazing.”

Those are words coming straight from your Binibini 35 Thoreen Deniega Halvorsen. She may be 50% of Norwegian mix, but her outlook and upbringing are distinctly Filipino. Actually, you can only see small traces of Scandinavian roots in her overall features. Save for the name and surname, she is a true blue Palaweña.

Thoreen is a smart and outspoken lady who knows what she wants in life. She eventually dreams of becoming a Diplomat posted in an overseas assignment once she builds up her credentials as one. But for now, she is all about being a Binibini and hopefully getting one of the crowns which she can use as a platform to further her mid-term goals in life.

Many pageant watchers, especially the fans and supporters still could not get over the fact that Stephany Stefanowitz did not make it as Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas 2017. Here is Miss Philippines Earth 2012/Miss Earth Air 2012 who took the risk of crossing over to the nationals even if she has already built a pageant achievement for herself.

Many observers say that it was age that booted her out. To her personal defense, Stephany has this to say:
“I really prepared for this pageant, physically & mentally. So if I got in the top 40 I knew I could really stand out. But of course, we never know with the judges. All I can say is I was ready to go all in.

It’s just unfortunate because the age limit of Miss Universe is until 28, and I’m only 27. My next birthday will still be on October 3. So even in the actual MU competition, I’ll still be 28.”

“For me, I was just hoping that they didn’t accept my application in the first place & not put me in top 55 if I was not eligible for any of the crowns. They’re so strict with height that the minute you file your application, that’s the first thing they check right away. But with age, it should have been just as outright from the start.

They should have told me about the age if it will be a disqualifying factor. I even spoke to the lawyers and all, weren’t they supposed to tell me?

But everything is water under the bridge for Stephany now. She has moved on from the experience, and ready to face another chapter of her life.

And her message to the Official Candidates?

“I wish Bb. Pilipinas all the best, and may the best girls win and give honor to our country. I will still be watching the coronation night to support all my KF sisters who qualified as Binibinis.

I’m just really overwhelmed with all the support even after…I’m very thankful that a lot of people believe in me. Thank you to all the people who encouraged me to join, I’m glad I did.“

Can Stephany Stefanowitz do a Carlene Aguilar?

There is a question mark in the title of this feature because, up until now, I could not fully internalize the increasing clamor and wildfire-like talks about Miss Philippines Earth 2012 and Miss Earth-Air 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz planning (or seriously considering) a brave move to apply for Bb. Pilipinas 2017. All the risks are in place. And if eventual success will be achieved in doing the same, she will only be the 2nd to do so. Back in 2005, Carlene Aguilar (roughly four years after reigning as the very first Miss Philippines Earth aside from being a semifinalist in the inaugural edition of Miss Earth) crossed over to BPCI and successfully wrested the Bb. Pilipinas World title. That was a clear upgrade because of pageant rankings.

This time around – and if 26 year-old Stephany Stefanowitz does push through with joining – there will be only two titles higher than her previous achievement – Miss Universe Philippines and Bb. Pilipinas International. This is not a scenario for the weak-hearted. Wisdom, maturity and experience must have given her the strength and passion to go for the bigger crowns.

So if it’s a final go for Stephany – or before she signs on the dotted line of the application form for Bb. Pilipinas 2017 – care to share your thoughts, dear readers?

Finishing 4th and 5th in Miss Resorts World Manila 2013 respectively, Samantha Purvor and Jaysel Arrozal smile despite the perceived disappointment within.

It’s no secret that one of the major come-ons in joining Miss Resorts World Manila 2013 is the juicy cash prize (PhP500,000.00) going to the winner. And because of this, the official list of candidates this year contain four very familiar names – Samantha Purvor who was already Miss Water in Miss Philippines Earth 2012, Jaysel Arrozal who placed 4th Runner-Up in Miss World Philippines 2011 plus Rhea Nakpil & Gabrielle Runnstrom who were two of the Official Candidates in Bb. Pilipinas 2013.

There were certainly risks they took in joining, but none more glaring than what both Samantha and Jaysel put themselves into. Having been top-tier finishers of big national pageants in the past, they stood losing more in the eyes of pageant followers (and even those who know them personally). And to be defeated by relative newbies made it extra disheartening in the end. I’m sure these ladies have already moved on from the surprisingly weak placements. I just feel slightly bad for them.

I do hope that they can now put their pageant-joining years to rest and start new chapters in their respective lives where sweeter victories can be achieved. 😉

Before Ariella ‘Ara’ Arida was green-lighted by her parents to join beauty pageants, she had to commit completion of her Chemistry degree at University of the Philippines-Los Banos. Once over and done with, she started focusing her eyes on a lifelong dream – to become a beauty queen. Her first attempt was not successful. She took part in Miss Philippines Earth 2012 as Miss Municipality of Alaminos, but never got to the top.

The experience did not dampen her spirit. And instead, she made a quick resolve to join her second but only after she was taken in and trained by topnotch Aces & Queens. This time around, she covered all bases and diligently followed the game plan to the letter. The rest is history. She is now Miss Universe Philippines 2013

If the name Meryl Angeline King sounds familiar to you, it’s because she has already joined at least two beauty pageants in the last year alone. First, she participated in Miss Philippines Earth 2012 as representative of the Municipality of Tiaong (Quezon). She did not win that one. However, the next competition proved to be her cup of tea. She became a Miss Tourism World Philippines 2012 candidate and eventually won the title that paved the way for her representation of the country in the Miss Tourism World 2012 held in Thailand.

Right now, Team JDV has prepped her up for Bb. Pilipinas 2013. And she is not leaving any stone unturned for the 1st Callback scheduled for February 11. Will she make it? 😉

The girl who represented the Municipality of Manaoag (Pangasinan) in Miss Philippines Earth 2012 is one of this year’s Kagandahang Flores for Bb. Pilipinas 2013.

Zandra Flores is a 5’7″ Pangasinense who spent a good part of her growing up years in the UK (from age 11-onwards) studying at various English schools which led to her academic semesters at the University of Bradford in England. After that, she went independent and stayed in Scotland, Italy and Wales for work, up until she finally moved back to the Philippines early last year.

How do you size up her Binibining Pilipinas chances? 😉

Miss Philippines Earth 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz and Miss World Philippines 2011 Gwendoline Ruais: they can pass off as sisters

I am just in a bit of a playful mood this morning so I layered two separate photos of newly-crowned Miss Philippines Earth Stephany Stefanowitz and Miss World Philippines 2011 Gwendoline Ruais. They really have some striking semblance, no? I know that some of you would quip that Jinkee Pacquiao is the look-alike of Stephany, but Gwen is closer in terms of features.

Anyways, how does Gwendoline feel that she is about to relinquish her crown next month and no clear aspirants for Miss World Philippines 2012 are in sight? With her 2nd-place performance in London last year, she must be hoping that her successor can equal if not exceed the same. Can the country make it twice in a row in the Top 3 of Miss World? Or has Julia Morley lost her shine in the Philippines and transferred her fondness to Indonesia – host of MW2013?

Which brings us back to Stephany who will banner the Philippine sash in Miss Earth 2012 in – once more – Indonesia. Will her very fair beauty be appreciated down there? Or will she end up with nothing at all to make up for the Miss Water placement of Athena Imperial last year? So many questions running in my mind. If only I could give crystal clear answers to them. 😉

Stephany Stefanowitz of Quezon City is the new Miss Philippines Earth. She bested 46 other lovelies on the way to earning the right to represent the country in Miss Earth 2012 to be held in Indonesia. The 5’8″ beauty broke the pattern of petite winners for the pageant after Psyche Resus and Athena Imperial in 2010 and 2011. The finals, held at the SM Mall of Asia Center Stage, was quite a successful event.

Together with her court of elements, Stephany has always been a favorite to win, alongside Miss Air Glennifer Perido of Tabuk City, Miss Water Samantha Purvor of San Juan City and Miss Eco-Tourism Candice Ramos of Vigan. The one surprise Top 5 placer was Thoreen Halvorsen of Puerto Princess who copped Miss Fire.

The other ladies who made it to the Top 10 are Glenna Christina Duch of Negros Oriental, Princess Manzon of SFO Cebu, Jaydielou Dilidili of Indang, Kathleen Subijano of Muntinlupa City and Roxanne Corluy of Fil-Belgium.
