While the buzz on this Filipina-Finnish beauty was hyped even more by some photographs that looked different from how she actually registers in person, I am giving Maria Sofia Gloria Mustonen some benefit of the doubt. A former Miss Cainta during Miss Philippines Earth 2010, she rested for two years before coming out once more and filing her bid for a Bb. Pilipinas 2013 spot. Let’s see if this 5’6″ lass has the ability to really wow us furthermore. For now, I am keeping my reservations in check. But hey, the more the merrier in this dizzying edition of the pageant, right? 😉

Another member of the Kagandahang Flores group comes in the person of Roxanne Tadique. The 25 year-old Manilan is an alumna of Bb. Pilipinas 2008 and Miss Philippines Earth 2010 (representing Pasig then, she withdrew before the contest wrapped up). She may not have been fortunate in her previous attempts to become a beauty queen, but she is not stopping, not especially now when she is already on the verge of getting past the age limit in just a year’s time. The svelte 5’7″ contender has greatly improved from her looks years back. And this could be attributed to the discipline she gave to further training and development in the pageant scene. Will better luck smile at this juncture? A semifinal placement would be great, although she is eyeing an achievement that would hopefully be the crowning glory (no pun intended) of her beauty contest-joining years.
See more of Roxanne Tadique as she battles it out with the other beauties of Bb. Pilipinas 2012. 😉

More than ready for Miss Earth 2010, Kris Psyche Resus is! (Photo credit: Melvin Sia of OPMB Worldwide)
Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 Kris Psyche Resus has the sole distinction of being the country’s representative to the first-ever Miss Earth to be hosted by another country. All roads lead to Nha Trang, Vietnam between now and December 4, by which time Miss Earth 2010 will have already been crowned by last year’s winner, Larissa Ramos of Brazil.
At Villa Immaculada in Intramuros, Manila, Carousel Productions hosted a formal send-off for Kris Psyche Resus. She is all set to leave for Vietnam to join more than 80 other ladies from all over the world to vie for the most unique and noteworthy international beauty pageant title – Miss Earth. She knows that the chances of becoming the 2nd Filipina to win Miss Earth are not the brightest (since the people behind it are all Filipinos and making another Miss Philippines get the crown in only 2 years’ time might not sit well with most), but she is extremely focused and determined to give it her best shot.
Personally, I will be pleased seeing her place as high as the Top 8, if not one of the court elementals in the Final 4. To say that she will be facing extremely tough competition would be an understatement because majority of the delegates have either been selected as representatives in Miss Earth-dedicated searches or as part of the winners’ circle in their biggest national finals. In fact, Osmel Sousa has already acquired the ME franchise for Venezuela which means that he will be sending over one of his thoroughbreds starting this year, with a formally-conferred Miss Venezuela-Earth 2011 (Caroline Medina) coming to Manila next year. This goes to show that the pageant is already being taken seriously by all participating countries.

Other well-wishers who graced the send-off were: (L) the gorgeous Miss Philippines-Air 2010 Emmerie Dale Cunanan and Miss Philippines-Eco-Tourism 2010 Angela Fernando (Photo credit: Melvin Sia of OPMB Worldwide)
Here’s wishing Kris Psyche Resus the best of luck in Miss Earth 2010! 😉
As I have correctly predicted, the petites did shine bright in last night’s finals of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 at the Manila Ocean Park. Kris Psyche Resus representing Mun. of Infanta won the title and will now wear the Philippine sash in the Miss Earth 2010 scheduled in Nha Trang, Vietnam later this year. The 5’5″ stunner also won Best in Swimsuit in pre-pageant activities. Her elemental court includes Miss Philippines-Air is Rene McHugh of Fil. USA East Coast with Miss Philippines-Water (1st Runner-Up for this year’s edition) going to Emerie Dale Cunanan (another petite) of Pandan. The 6’2″ Gwennaelle Ruais of Fil. France was named Miss Philippines-Fire with Angela Fernando of Lubao completing the Top 5 as Miss Philippines-Eco Tourism.

Congratulations to the winners! 😉
Since the finals of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 will culiminate in a grand pageant tonight at the Manila Ocean Park, I will now be sharing my Top 15 picks for the crown., I’m pretty sure one of these ladies will take it all the way and become the country’s official representative to the Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam later this year. All the images below are courtesy of my good friend, Boyet Blas, of Mabuhay Beauties.
In no particular order, my personal choices are:
By international beauty pageant standards, a lady is considered petite if she stands 5’5″ and below. And since the more outstanding candidates this year belong to the 5’4″-5’5″ height category, I sub-titled this blog emphasizing that the petites will shine bright tonight. In fact – save for the amazonic Gwennaelle Ruais who is at least 6′ tall – majority of the ladies are taller than the average Filipina but shorter than the generally pronounced statistic when fielded abroad. Nonetheless, what more than makes up for this is the fact that a good number of the 49 contenders have very beautiful and charming faces as can be seen in my 15 selections above.
Anyways, if I had to whittle down the 15 to just my Top 5, at least 3 petites will enter the group and they are Pandan’s Emerie Dale Cunanan (gorgeous!), Infanta’s Kris Psyche Resus (beautiful face and sensuous aura), and Meycauayan City’s Christine Hermoso (sweet face and visibly toned – albeit less shapely – body). This trio can possibly be joined by Lubao’s Angela Fernando and Taguig City’s Nicole (Kaufmann) Ortega. Conversely, if the judges would favor statuesque – in keeping up with previous winners who stand a minimum of 5’7″ – then there’s a high probability that the Top 5 would include Fil-France’s Gwennaelle Ruais or Fil USA East-Coast’s Rene McHugh and even make either win in the process.
Unless one of the five really fails in the all-important environmental Q&A, Emerie, Nicole, Angela, Kris and Christine will likely come out on top.
Watch out for the delayed TV Telecast of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 on April 25, Sunday night over ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best. Reigning Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos of Brazil will grace the finals. 😉

Instead of injecting not-so-positive remarks on the Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 candidates whose evening gowns failed to catch my good impression, I will just post their photos and you decide on whether they truly belong to the letdowns or not. The images are courtesy of OPMB Worldwide. Here they are:
The Evening Gown competition of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 was recently concluded en route to the coronation night on April 24 at the Manila Ocean Park. Here are some of the 49 ladies who registered better than the rest in the said pre-pageant activity.

Miss Fil. Community of France Gwennaelle Ruais who received the Face of Placenta Special Award

Miss Municipality of Pandan Emerie Dale Cunanan who was adjudged as Best in Evening Gown.

Miss Fil. Community of US East Coast Rene McHugh

Miss Municipality of Romblon Ma. Rizel Macasa

Miss Municipality of Virac Aiza Angelica delos Santos

Miss Cebu City Sian Elizabeth Maynard who received the Miss Perwoll Special Award

Miss Marikina City Hannah Marie Landan

Miss municipality of Lubao Angela Fernando

Miss Taguig City Nicole Kaufmann Ortega

Miss Municipality of Olutanga Sheena Arabani

Miss Tanauan City Sarah Jane Mercado

Miss Municipality of Kabacan Lady Lou Garidan

Miss Antipolo City Pamela Bianca de Leon
There were a few others who decently presented their evening gowns. All in all, the competition is heating up nicely and it would be worth watching who will eventually win the crown and represent the country in Miss Earth 2010. 😉
Just as I blogged about the standout creations during the Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 Cultural Competition, I felt the need to make a separate post on the ones which left much to be desired. Reasons I have for including the following in my less-than-desirable list of designs are poor execution and/or below average styling and/or mediocre aesthetics and/or lack of fluidity. Let me just say that I am not in any way stating any negative remark on the wearer but the outfit themselves. I also opted not to be too cruel with my remarks anymore because that would be adding insult to injury. At any rate, if you find my quick comments harsh, then just imagine what’s going on inside my mind while looking at them.

Miss San Jose del Monte City Lorraine Asis - OMG, I can't see even an iota of creativity in this design!

Miss Antipolo City Pamela Bianca de Leon - OMG, the styling makes her look like an alien! And what's with the flower girl basket with pitiful yellow ribbon hanging?

Miss Municipality of Bongabong Abbygale Rey - OMG, very amateurish and crude in execution! And a Big Bird headdress? Double OMG!

Miss Municipality of Kawit Pauline Dollaga - OMG, she looked heavily pregnant and heavily-weighed down!

Miss Tagaytay City Nadine Karla de Roxas - OMG, another amateurish creation that falls short of polish in execution!

Miss Cebu City Sian Elizabeth Maynard - OMG, I expected a lot more from the designer but this one makes the upper and lower parts created by two separate designers who did not collaborate at all!

Miss Municipality of Angono Alyssa Angelaine Tolentino - OMG, the silhouette is right, but the execution and aesthetics are less than average.

Miss Municipality of Gumaca Kris Ortiz - OMG, I can't help it...this costume could've been saved if not for the overly-busy design and odd placement of accents which look like oysters.

Miss Municipality of Imus Christine Weizel Guzman - OMG, what's with the obsession with tassles this year? This is one of the poorly-tassled pieces.

Miss Municipality of Romblon Ma. Rizel Macasa - OMG, I wanted to like the concept but it just doesn't do it for me!
I hope I didn’t offend anyone, but if I did…my apologies. I was expecting more from the participating designers. And please don’t start me with budget constraints because good taste, genuine creativity and resourcefulness do not necessitate exorbitant amounts to make all the time.
In the recently-concluded Cultural Competition of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010, the 49 Official Candidates paraded in their respective regional costumes where one winner will be announced come finals night on April 24. There are quite a number of excellent presentations, but here are the ladies who really stood out in the same. Photo credits go to Bruce Casanova of OPMB Worldwide.

Miss Fil. Community of France Gwennaelle Ruais

Miss Municipality of Pandan Emerie Dale Cunanan

Miss Taguig City Nicole Kaufmann Ortega

Miss Municipality of Olutanga Sheena Arabani

Miss Caloocan City Sheryl Jane Taguiam

Miss Calamba City Princess Sardin

Miss Makati City Angelica Pasumbal

Gwennaelle Ruais’ outfit is the best for me, while Angela Fernando gives the best projection and presentation on top of wearing a simple but uber elegant attire. 😉
