Clockwise, from top left: Miss Universe 2012 First Runner-Up Janine Tugonon; Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet; Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner-Up Elaine Kay Moll; Miss International 2012 Semifinalist Nicole Schmitz; Miss World 2012 Semifinalist (8th Place) Queenie Rehman; Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot; Mr. World 2012 1st Runner-Up Andrew Wolff and Miss Earth 2012 Miss Air Stephanie Stefanowitz.
2012 was a very good year in Philippine Pageantry. And the honors weren’t just limited to mainstream beauty competitions for beautiful Filipinas. We also conquered both its Male and Transgender counterparts. A quick litany reads like an enviable record for other pageant-loving nations. Topping it all are placements in the Big 4: 1st Runner-Up in Miss Universe 2012, 1st Runner-Up (Miss Air) in Miss Earth 2012 plus Top 15 Semifinalist placements in Miss World 2012 and Miss International 2012. For Miss Supranational 2012, we also made it to Top 5 by taking 3rd Runner-Up honors. And then there is Mr. World 2012 with a 2nd place finish, preceded by a well-deserved win in Manhunt International 2012. Not to be outdone is the first-ever victory of the Philippines in Miss International Queen 2012. Whew! And I’m not yet adding a Top 5 reach of Janicel Lubina in the lesser-known Miss Scuba International or the Top 15 semis slot in Miss Asia Pacific World of Grendel Alvarado, plus last night’s victory of Rizzini Alexis Gomez as Miss Tourism International 2012!
All of these achievements by our representatives give the country excellent reasons to look forward to 2013 with unbridled enthusiasm.
Stay with me and together, we will journey into the Year of the Snake as our sash-wearers continue to slither (pun intended) their way to the top of the pageant world.
Happy New Year to one and all!!! 😀
Newly-victorious Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot (middle) and Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet (right) when they both guested on Tonight with Arnold Clavio.
I briefly watched ‘Tonight with Arnold Clavio’ on GMA News TV the other evening and was pleasantly surprised to see both Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot and Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet as guests. I’m happy for the wins of these two individuals. Confidence can be seen in their actions, but not without expressing humility as well.
So after their consecutive wins in Thailand, can a third title be in the offing before the year ends? You see, there is a popular saying that good luck comes in threes. And excluding Miss Earth, more than a few competitions are still waiting to be held. There’s Mr. World in London, Miss Universe in Las Vegas, Miss Tourism Queen International in China, Miss Tourism International in Kuala Lumpur and even Miss Scuba International in Bali. So take your pick. Where could that next victory come from? 😉

Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot of the Philippines
Congratulations are in order for Kevin Balot of the Philippines for defeating 22 other competitors and winning Miss International Queen 2012 in Pattaya, Thailand last night – the country’s first ever victory in the popular beauty pageant for transgenders/transsexuals. First Runner-Up went to Jessika Simoes of Brazil, with Panvilas Mongkol of Thailand placing Second Runner-Up.
If that’s not enough, Kevin was also named Miss Photogenic. Plus, two other Philippine reps, Miriam Jimenez and Michelle Montecarlo, made it to the Top 10. Another entry, Stefania Cruz, got the Miss Ripley’s Popular Vote, with Guam’s Fil-candidate, Matricia Mae Centino, also reaching Top 10.
Victorious Kevin Balot of the Philippines!
Great job, Kevin and the whole Philippine contingent! 😀
Miss Philippines Miriam Jimenez for Miss International Queen 2012
Just an update on the Philippine participation in Miss International Queen 2012. The candidates are currently in Bangkok for some contest-related activities. Miss Philippines Miriam Jimenez (she’s actually one of three wearing the country’s sash) is doing well. She has bonded so well with her competitors, especially Miss Romania who happens to be her roommate.
The finals will be held this coming Friday, November 2, in Pattaya. Let’s hope Miriam or any of the two other Miss Philippines will win and bring home the crown. 🙂

Miriam Jimenez will represent the Philippines in Miss International Queen 2012 in Pattaya, Thailand.
Come November 2, 2012, the Philippines will be represented in Miss International Queen 2012 in Pattaya, Thailand not by one but two beautiful candidates. One of them is 24 year-old Miriam Jimenez who I personally met two weeks back during the meet-and-greet with MWP2012 Queenie Rehman. When she arrived at Izakaya that night, I was – quite simply – floored by her presence. She personifies an exotic quality that can never be ignored. Her pictures may still be dead giveaways for some, but in person, she is all-woman in impact. In fact, I initially mistook her as Mary Ann Ross Misa, but quickly regained my composure when she found a seat across us in the table where I was able to scrutinize her better.
I’m pretty sure Miriam will be able to stand her own against the lovely Thai candidates in Miss International Queen. I won’t be surprised as well if she ends up winning the same. Let’s wish our rep the best of luck in the competition! 😉
