Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman
There are three things worth remembering about Bb. Pilipinas 2005. First, it was the only edition where a candidate – Wendy Valdez – was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Tourism first and then declared as 1st Runner-Up during the official announcement proceedings. Second, the first recognized national titleholder who crossed over and won another crown – Bb. Pilipinas World – was here. She is Miss Philippines Earth 2001 Carlene Aguilar. And lastly, it was the batch that produced the true shining star of the Philippines in international competitions – not just for the years 2000-2009 – but including two previous decades – the 80s and the 90s (do remember that Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez was the last big winner before 2005
). When Precious Lara Quigaman was crowned Bb. Pilipinas International 2005, she eventually became the country’s fourth Miss International winner in Japan.

Amidst all the controversies (and unforgiveable embarrasments) with the initial days of SEA Games hosting in the country, the Opening Ceremony this coming Saturday, November 30, should be a source of pride for Filipinos. Aside from the showcase of World-Class singing talents, the muses of the participating countries in the region’s biennial sporting event will be eleven (11) of our international beauty titleholders, namely:
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach for Team Philippines
Miss World 2013 Megan Young for Team Indonesia
Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman for Team Malaysia
Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell for Team Singapore
Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong for Team Thailand
Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco for Team Myanmar
Miss Intercontinental 2018 Karen Gallman for Team Brunei
Miss Eco International 2018 Cynthia Thomalla for Team Laos
Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 Sharifa Akeel for Team Vietnam
Miss Tourism International 2017 Jannie Alipo-on for Team East Timor
Miss Multinational 2017 Sophia Senoron for Team Cambodia
Let’s hope that things go on an upswing after the festive start.
Before she won Bb. Pilipinas International 2005 and Miss International 2005, Precious Lara Quigaman took part in Eat Bulaga's TeeVee Babe
Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 2001 in our Sunday Senti Specials. Back during the time when Precious Lara Quigaman participated in the TeeVee Babe contest of GMA-7’s Eat Bulaga, nobody would have thought that she would become big in the pageant world. Four years after that stint on the lunchtime variety show, her fate will be baptized with a win as Bb. Pilipinas International 2005, and soon as the country’s 4th Miss International winner.
Lara is now an accomplished character actress on TV, a book co-author and a happy wife & mother. Funny but I really never lost sight of her almost every Sunday. We both live in the south and regularly eat lunch at Alabang Town Center. I’ve seen her from the days when she was still single to her being wife to Marco Alcaraz and now a devoted mother. Still very beautiful and slim. And friendly.
Let’s watch part of her video during the TeeVee Babe 2001 Grand Finals where she was named 1st Runner-Up.

Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman-Alcaraz is the picture of peace and contentment as she awaits the birth of her first offspring with husband actor Marco Alcaraz. In the image above taken by my favorite photographer Gelbert Aplal, she is at peak pregnancy form. The additional weight made her look more lovely. I should know. I frequently see her and hubby strolling around Alabang Town Center on weekends.
Here’s wishing that you deliver a healthy baby! 🙂
