Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2017 and Miss Intercontinental 2017 1st Runner-Up Katarina Rodriguez is back in the Philippines. And boy, did she really enjoy the extended stay in Egypt. The time allowed her to process all the events leading to the finals night of her pageant. Yes, she gained weight. But she can lose the same in time for the Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Finals on March 18 for sure.
Welcome home, Katja!
I am posting the message (verbatim) of Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2017 and now Miss Intercontinental 1017 1st Runner-Up Katarina Rodriguez about how her participation in the said competition changed her life dramatically.
Here is the EXACT moment where I turned FULLY into a woman. Congratulations to Miss Mexico @veritosalasvallejo the new Miss Intercontinental 2017! You are a vision, truly. I came to Egypt for one thing and one thing only: the Miss Intercontinental crown. This crown to me represented my becoming a real woman. Myself, and DOZENS of people behind me dedicated so much time and effort to ensure I would win. I cannot say I would have done anything differently because I was very aware from the moment I stepped into the NAIA airport of every action and word I produced. I can tell you that after rewatching the coronation last night I can confidently say I was FLAWLESS. Never had I been more ready for anything in my life. I had hundreds of thousands of people right behind me and each of you were the gas to my fire. It was not about me anymore it was about YOU.
Here is the thing though, a queen does not necessarily have to be flawless. The Intercontinental crown did fall off Miss Mexico’s head when she was crowned and YES, I did have to pick it up and hand it to her. How could I not say it was such a painful thing for me to do? But when giving the crown to her I swear to you there was this energy that went through her and straight to me and this is where I knew I am no longer a child but a woman. Seeing her beautiful face while handing it back to her, well, I felt PROUD for her, and no pain at all. It was the lightest feeling I have felt in weeks. That crown was never mine and somehow always her’s. I don’t want to read any comments talking superstitions or anything hurtful especially from my Filipinos. Vero is a queen and she is MY queen, MY Miss Intercontinental 2017. She is a sweetheart and very much deserving. She taught me grace by her energy and warmth in a matter of seconds and only a true queen could empower another woman in such a manner. Let us keep that grace Philippines, for this is only the beginning. Viva Mexico, Viva Pilipinas.
Miss Intercontinental 2017 Veronica Salas of Mexico
The Top 3
Veronica Salas Vallejo of Mexico is the new Miss Intercontinental after she defeated 64 other contenders for the title. Our very own Katarina Rodriguez is 1st Runner-Up, with Cathelijne Heppenhuis of the Netherlands getting 2nd Runner-Up. All three ladies were also awarded as the best in their respective continents.
Watch a video of their post-Coronation interview as (a teary-eyed) Miss Philippines Katarina Rodriguez expressed her #real feelings about placing so heartbreakingly close to becoming the country’s first winner in the competition. You would really wonder why she was specifically asked to speak in Filipino – perhaps to express her true sentiments? (Her placement brings back memories of 2015 when Christi McGarry also finished 1st Runner-Up in the same pageant).
Now watch how Katarina nailed the Q&A
The playing field for our national beauty titlists have just gotten tighter. With three of the four organizations with bragging rights for their respective international wins, Bb. Pilipinas is starting to feel the pressure of delivering a win for the country.
Miss World Philippines has claimed Reina Hispanoamericana, Miss Philippines Earth has the Miss Earth title back to its homebase and Mutya ng Pilipinas has just gotten the Miss Tourism International last night in Malaysia.
No one is feeling the weight more than Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental Katarina Rodriguez, on whose shoulders rest the responsibility of bringing home the Miss Intercontinental title for the first time. She is the only remaining member of the 2017 batch left to compete. Do you think she has it in her to bring one more crowning glory for the Philippines by mid-January?

Aside from the Triple Send-Off for Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Queens Rachel Peters, Chanel Olive Thomas and Katarina Rodriguez, it was also a Double Homecoming Presscon for The Miss Globe 2017 1st Runner-Up Nelda Ibe and Miss Grand International 2017 Elizabeth Clenci that made the entire event more meaningful for all members of the Press who attended.
Our departing ladies are all eager to prove their worth in the international pageant arena, especially that pressure is mounting on their anticipated successes abroad. Instead of feeling the weight on theor shoulders, the motivation is coming from the performances of everyone ahead of them. Let us now watch videos of the well-wishes given by the three departing Queens to each other.
Today, at around 3pm, the last big send-off for our Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Queens will take place at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center. A strictly invitational affair, it will be a 3-in-1 media gathering for Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters (who needs to be in Las Vegas by the 13th at the latest), Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2017 Chanel Olive Thomas (who should depart for Poland soon) and Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2017 Katarina Rodriguez (who still has a little more elbow room to prepare herself for Sri Lanka).
This is a must-coverage for normannorman.com as BPCI expects Joy Arguil and I to be present at the event. And we will bring the happenings to you as soon as available.
In the meantime, below is a BTS video clip of the latest photoshoot of Rachel with Raymond Saldaña as recorded by Ron Angeles. Just to whet your appetite. 🙂

It won’t be long till Bb. Pilipinas InterContinental 2017 Katarina Rodriguez her chance to take the spotlight and start her mission in Sri Lanka for Miss InterContinental 2017. For starters, she will have her official send-off this coming Monday alongside Rachel Peters amd Chanel Olive Thomas. She may be the last to compete among our crowned Binibinis but that also means that she will have the chunkier part of December to herself as practically all the other ladies have already completed their missions by then.
Do you still feel that Katja will be one of our most successful reps this year?
