Hanna Kim: Will she take inspiration from Korea’s win in Miss Earth?

Miss Universe Korea Hanna Kim possesses a couple of qualities that are similar to Miss Earth 2022 Mina Sue Choi. Their physical features are not far apart. They both stayed in the US, with this lady having been born in Los Angeles where grew up till she was 4, returned to Orange County back in 2010 and moved to New York five years later. Hence, she has a decent facility in English as spoken language. Personality-wise, they are just as relatively engaging.

So will ballet-dancing Hanna draw inspiration from Mina Sue the moment she starts competing in the 71st Miss Universe? I won’t mind if she does.

Miss Earth 2022: Final Predictions

Tomorrow evening, Miss Earth 2022 is set to crown its new winner after two years of conducting its Finals virtually. This year, part of the preliminaries were done digitally. But for the most part of the edition, a return to physical pageantry was successfully organized by Carousel Productions here in Manila and around the Philippines.

Eighty-seven (87) ladies are aspiring to become the successor of Destiny Wagner. And from this large roster, I have taken the liberty of making a forecast (see photo grid above):

Among my five (5) top-tier choices, two Latinas, two from Asia-Oceania and one from Europe are looking at possibly winning the crown. And I am confidently placing my bets on anyone among them taking it all the way.

Sheyla Ravelo Perez of Cuba, Sheridan Mortlock of Australia, Andrea Aguilera of Colombia, Mina Sue Choi of Korea and Merel Hendriksen of the Netherlands are on spot to fill up the highest positions in the ultimate honor roll. And I would be happy having one of them being named Miss Earth 2022.

Among potential spoilers, my second-tier selection could provide a winner or two in the podium finish. A placement by Jenny Ramp of the Philippines is welcome but not highly anticipated. I would give stronger chances to Liliya Levaya of Belarus, Ekaterina Velmakina of Russia and Sakhile Dube of Zimbabwe.

In the end, I predict the Cuban, Australian or Colombian as big winner. And a Top 4 ranking for the Korean would really put a smile on my face.

Miss Earth 2022: Around the Philippines in just a couple of weeks

The candidates of Miss Earth 2022 are currently doing what Filipino tourists have not done for the longest of time – i.e. travel around the country for a specified period. To date, the ladies have been to Zamboanga City, Romblon, Palawan (Brooke’s Point), Pampanga, Laguna and Batangas City. Soon, there will be Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental on the schedule.

I doff my hat to Carousel Productions for doing an amazing job of organizing everything so well, intermittently bad weather notwithstanding. And the candidates are enjoying the activities.

Earlier today, the Press Presentation of the 87 Official Candidates of Miss Earth 2022 took place at the Cove Manila of Okada Manila. It was a long event given the number of ladies vying for the crown.

Towards the end, the continental Media Favorites were announced during the Press Presentation of Miss Earth 2022 at the Cove Manila of Okada Manila. They are, as expected by many:

For Africa: Esther Oluwatosin Ajayi of Nigeria
For the Americas: Andrea Aguilera of Colombia
For Asia/Oceania: Sheridan Mortlock of Australia
For Europe: Merel Hendriksen of the Netherlands

As for my early personal favorites, I will share sixteen (16) ladies under my radar so far. Aside from the four (4) Darlings of the Press above, below are twelve more I will be keeping an eye on more closely. They are the delegates from the Philippines, Cuba, Belgium, Venezuela, Korea, USA, Thailand, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Kyrgyzstan, Austria and Belize.

The ladies will be touring the country this week, initially as one big troop in Zamboanga City before they segue to their divided groups thereafter.

Miss Earth 2021 Destiny Wagner during the welcome dinner at Versailles Alabang

87 MISS EARTH delegates from different countries are now in the Philippines to take on this year’s theme, “ME Loves Fauna,” to emphasize the importance of caring for animal life. The theme also gives awareness of how animal life, whether wildlife or domestic, and especially the endangered species, are essential members of the environment which must be given proper care and attention.

“Apart from this meaningful undertaking, showcasing the beauty of the Philippines to the world, as it rises up from the pandemic, would be beneficial to our tourism industry. The pageant will give more focus ( staging events outdoors showing nature and picturesque eco landscapes
as much as possible to showcase its beauty and at the same time lessening its carbon footprint with natural lighting,” Lorraine Schuck, EVP & co- Founder of Miss Earth further elaborated

The virtual and on-ground events and activities will be live-streamed worldwide from the MISS EARTH social media accounts – its official YouTube Channel, Facebook and on the pageant’s Official Entertainment App Partner – Kumu.

The MISS EARTH 2022 finals will be streamed online and telecast on national and international TV stations, LIVE from Cove Manila in Okada Manila, the pageant’s Venue Partner.

After viewing all the National Costumes of the Miss Earth 2022 candidates, the task of picking the best just got extremely difficult. But in the end, I am sharing seven (7) that made it to my list of favorites:

#DominicanRepublic – colorful; theatrical
#Japan – regal; calming
#Thailand – fun; imaginative
#Philippines – creatively rustic; inventive
#Bolivia – simple but very mystifying
