For this year’s Holy Week, I have decided to combine two (2) subject matters I love the most – beauty pageants and movies. So instead of going preachy or anything, I thought it best to make a daily feature on some of the films about beauty contests that I enjoyed watching in the past – guilty pleasure or not.
For Holy Monday, I have decided to start with “Miss Congeniality” (2000) – the light action-comedy that starred Sandra Bullock as FBI Agent Gracie Hart who went undercover as Miss New Jersey in the Miss United States competition to investigate and stop the reported bombing plans for the finals. What made the film more interesting for me was the presence of the delightful Candice Bergen. Watch the trailer now. If you’d like to see the whole movie, click on the link after the preview vid.

Pia Wurtzbach and Cassy Naidas clowning around.
In any beauty competition, true friendships continue to be formed inspite of the backstage horror stories we have read and heard in the past. Take Pia Wurtzbach and Cassy Naidas, for example. Being part of the same camp (Aces & Queens) has helped them forge a sisterly bond even before Bb. Pilipinas 2013 got underway. And now that the pre-pageant activites are nearing its peak, they have managed to remain solid as friends. Regardless of the results, these two beauties will remain close.
And this leads me into thinking…..are the Miss Congeniality winners every year genuinely warm and sociable? I’d like to think so. Otherwise, they won’t get the votes from their co-candidates if the feeling is not real and mutual. But are you aware of any recipient of the special award who was just play-acting amicable all throughout? 😉
