So did you catch the Season Premiere of “The People’s Queen” on the TFC Channel (if you’re overseas) or either the Lifetime or MYX TV Channels (on Skycable)? It’s a very entertaining reality series following two (2) pageant experts (Cece Asuncion and Voltaire Tayag) – who also happen to be my friends – take in five beautiful ladies into one big house for a series of trainings and personality improvements (including a generous dash of confessions from each one of them).
I’m pretty sure you are familiar with most of the five recruits: newly-crowned Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez, newly-appointed Miss Supranational USA 2018 Katrina Dimaranan, former Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities titleholder Michelle Thorlund, Blasian beauty Nikita McElroy and Jenny Levy.
Watch videos of the show’s teaser below, plus the TFC interview with Cece Asuncion and Katrina Dimaranan.
If you missed watching the first episode last October 24, it will run from the start once more this coming November on the Metro Channel.

I got the chance to know a little more about Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities 2016 Michelle Thorlund before she was adjudged the best among the several entries of the Fil-Comm entries in the national competition. Here is a talented and intelligent girl from the US West Coast – California to be exact – who wowed everyone when she was introduced to the media during the Press Presentation and stayed on the hunt for a crown without letting up.
And now that Michelle has earned for herself a well-deserved recognition and crowning as one of the best in the 2016 batch, she can use the platform to further reach out to the full stretch of her Filipino roots and make herself a more inspiring role model to all beautiful ladies who want to be exactly just like her.
And her victory message?
“…I’m so extremely blessed to have received the title Mutya Ng Overseas Communities. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along this wonderful journey with Mutya Ng Pilipinas; everyone’s kind words have really helped me pull through to bring home the crown.
In life there will be people who will try to tell you what you can and can’t do — there will be people who will do you wrong, but as strong individuals we need to stand up for who we are and be confident in ourselves from the core of our beings. I’m so thankful that such a distinguished pageant organization and panel of judges saw me for who I am, saw me for what great things I can bring in to the world and granted me with such a prestigious title. Thank you again to every last person who has supported me and I am truly proud to be your MUTYA NG OVERSEAS COMMUNITIES 2016!❤️👑
Mutya 10 is Michelle Thorlund from California
Michelle Thorlund, #10 in the ongoing Mutya ng Pilipinas 2016, is one of the most beautiful faces in this year’s batch. She actually possesses eye-catching looks that made practically all members of the media sit up and take notice during the Press Launch at Hotel 101.
And it doesn’t stop at just the physical. Michelle is one intelligent girl with an interesting talent as you will read in her self-made bio of sorts below.
My name is Michelle Charlotte Thorlund. I’m nineteen years old from Orange County, California. I’m currently a part-time model back home but I also go to school. In the future, I plan on becoming a criminal defense attorney. In high school, I studied Latin for four years and even received a national award placing as “Magna Cum Laude” of my class. I love playing piano and play classical pieces from Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninov. Another interesting fact about myself is that I am vegan, so I do my best to not contribute to animal cruelty. I believe in helping animals while preserving our earth and also improving people’s health through veganism, which is something I love to advocate.
I am so proud to be able to be the sole representative from the USA in this pageant, representing my home state of California. It’s been an absolute blessing so far and I am ecstatic to be competing internationally in a beauty pageant – something that I never would have dreamed of earlier in my life. I am so grateful to Mutya Ng Pilipinas for everything they do for me and for the rest of my fellow candidates and I’m looking forward to the rest of this wonderful journey!
While some would say that Michelle is just the typical Fil-American lass who wants to do good in the Philippines, I can bet that you will find her most impressive once given the chance to prove her worth.
Best of luck in Mutya ng Pilipinas, Michelle! 🙂
