You can really tell that Bb. Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel de Leon is one beauty queen made of sterner stuff. She has a strong personality capable of overcoming difficulties and problems. And even the cookie cutter expectations from our national crown wearer. I remember prior appearances earlier this year before she transferred the crown to her successor Ahtisa Manalo when she would dress up in goth as compared to the more glammed stylings of her fellow titleholders.
And now this.
As the Muse 2018 of FHM Philippines, Mariel proves once more that she has a mind all her own. We all know how BPCI frowns at potential Binibinis having their photographs splashed on its glossy pages. She did the reverse by doing the shoot now that her contract with the organization is nearing completion.
Your thoughts, dear readers?
Ahtisa by Red Keeler
In continuation of our blog entries about the confirmed dates of mission for our Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Queens, we have Ma. Ahtisa Manalo next who is scheduled to leave for Tokyo, Japan second half of October to join the other candidates who will compete for the Miss International Beauty Pageant 2018 crown on November 9 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall.
I spent last weekend with this doll-like beauty from Candelaria and she has really blossomed from the time she clinched the national crown. Her head-turning face has become more captivating, the same way that her communication skills have leveled up quite nicely.
The pressure to win our seventh (7th) Miss International crown looms in the horizon, maybe not as much as Mariel de Leon last year who had to go for a back-to-back. Sandwich wins have happened in Japan before so there is no impossibility in what Ahtisa wants to achieve.
Vickie, Ahtisa and Eva for the second-highest crown of Bb. Pilipinas 2018?
There is just as much growing excitement for the second-highest title at stake in Bb. Pilipinas 2018. And knowing the basic requirements of Miss International in the prospective selection of representatives they expect from our country, I have initially set aside three (3) contenders who are looking more and more as the best bets for the title – #Binibini1 Vickie Marie Rushton, #Binibini17 Ma. Ahtisa Manalo and #Binibini32 Eva Patalinjug.
You can never miss out on the gorgeous face of Vickie. She is as doll-like as you would want a Bb. Pilipinas International to be. And it helps that her showbiz background is in the mix. She loves being in the public eye and can make heads Turn with the least of effort. She is also a good communicator.
20 year-old Ahtisa has youth on her side. And you can take it either as a compliment or a disadvantage. But in this case, I am leaning more on the former. She also has the looks that can drive the Miss International organizers crazy in love with her. She may need further polishing here and there, but all the right ingredients are in place.
And then there is Eva – the Mutya turned Binibini who has always been praised for her relaxed spontaneity in public that makes pageant fans love her even more. Her beauty is also undeniable. And at 23-going-24, she is right smack in the best age for the crown currently being held by Mariel de Leon.
Team Vickie? Team Ahtisa? Or Team Eva? Who will get your full support?
Prior to the actual National Costume Presentation of Bb. Pilipinas 2018, the forty (40) Binibinis walked the stage in Jag Jeans and showed their fiercer and sexier side while showing off their curves in the latest collection of the denim brand. Reigning titleholders Rachel Peters, Mariel de Leon, Chanel Olive Thomas, Elizabeth Clenci, Nelda Ibe and Katarina Rodriguez led the group. Here are some photos from the said segment of the fashion show held last Saturday night.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Store Tour of the Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Official Candidates will happen in select establishments at Araneta Center starting at 2pm. Their first stop will be Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen at Ali Mall before heading straight to the Taco Bell at the Cyber Park beside Novotel.
This will be another chance to meet the ladies and – hopefully – get quick photo ops with them.
See you there!

With the Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Talent Competition scheduled to take place at the Farmers Plaza Activity Area this coming Saturday – February 10 – I thought it would be appropriate to take a look-back at last year’s version where the more memorable presentations were placed in a video grid above. Included are the opera number of Mariel de Leon, the ballet performance of Arienne Calingo, the Taekwondo exhibition of Ma. Camille Manalo, the interpretative dance of Gillian Colcol and the bass guitar skills of Elizabeth Clenci.
Now if you want to get relatively up close and personal with this year’s Binibinis, then the above-mentioned upcoming event will be your best bet for some sort of a limited meet-and-greet.
I was told that around fifteen or so ladies will display their talents that are mostly in the song, dance and song-and-dance formats, with one doing a rhythmic gymnastics exhibition.
See you there!

Their reigns are not yet finished, but Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters and Bb. Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel de Leon are definitely showbiz-bound. In fact, the latter’s first leading lady project will already come out on Christmas Day with the modern Female of “Ang Panday” starring Coco Martin.
As for Rachel, I’m not sure yet what peg she will slip into once offers start pouring in. I could see her as a TV travel/magazine segment host for now. But let’s leave the planning to ABS-CBN or its sister networks.
Speaking of movies, Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa will also appear – in her first high-profile project – as a fairy of sorts, also in “Ang Panday”, just as Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will be in “The Revenger Squad” as a superheroine, with Ara Arida and Bianca Guidotti playing villainess cameos.
