Suzette from Canada, Marie from Norway, Mutya from the Philippines: three different countries with one common factor.
When you’re in an extremely foreign land where there could only be the smallest of Pinoy expat or OFW population around, what would be the next closest thing to find some sort of sisterly comfort? Bond with fellow candidates who share your roots!
In the city of Minsk, Mutya Datul, Suzette Hernandez and Marie Peter find warmth in each other’s company. They may represent three different countries, but are tied together by their Filipino origins.
The presence of many other contestants can help lessen the homesickness. But there’s nothing like good old kababayan spirit that can temporarily replace the absence of family ties. This despite the fact that the Miss Supranational 2013 is still a competition and all three of them will be on opposite sides of the pole once the battle for the crown continues.
The ladies posing in the bountiful fields of Brest, Belarus.
For now, just enjoy the time in Belarus. You still have around 12 days remaining in the calendar of events before packing your bags for home, unless one ends up winning or placing in the Top 5 (which means an extension of stay). 😉
The Philippines, Canada and Norway have one Supranational thing in common.
Mutya is starting to shine in Belarus.
Official welcome for the ladies
Reigning winner Katsiaryna Buraya
was around to welcome the ladies.
Amidst the non-stop rains flooding Metro Manila and tropical storm Maring adding more damage to an already super bad weather affecting a good part of Luzon, I just want to share the initial photographs of our Mutya Datul a couple of days after safely arriving in Minsk, Belarus for Miss Supranational 2013.
During one of the pre-pageant gatherings where all candidates were introduced to some members of the Press, Miss Philippines debuted her appearance wearing a black dress, simply made-up and with full smile on her face. It’s not hard for her to stand out, given a fresh and charming disposition that keeps her in good stead. And while this is still a competition where outshining each other is the usual norm, the natural warmth of our entry is evident.
Of course, we also know by now that there are two other ladies with Pinoy connections participating in the same. Full-blooded Filipina Suzette Hernandez is representing Canada, while half-Filipina Marie Molo Peter is wearing Norway’s sash. I’m pretty sure the three have already started bonding, and should get closer as the weeks progress.
Stay tuned for more updates from Belarus in the days to come! All photos courtesy of dengi.onliner.by 😉
P.S. Mutya’s roommate is Nancy Marcus of Malaysia.
Last weekend, the 30 Official Candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2012 made another personal apperance at the New Ali Mall. This time, it was a purely casual activity which allowed the ladies to bond with their fans and supporters, have some photo opportunities, sign autographs and engage in small talk. Check out the pictures below taken by Melvin Sia for OPMB Worldwide.
