Here are some of the latest photos of Binibining Pilipinas-World 2009 Marie-Ann Umali. The first one was taken when she visited the Joburg Zoo together with the other candidates and various children for the latter’s Christmas Party at the zoo. She is shown below with one of the front-runners for the competition, Perla Beltran of Mexico. The other shots were from a fundraising dinner event for one of Miss World’s beneficiaries in Johannesburg.

This is definitely the longest pre-pageant for any international beauty competition. The 114 ladies have been together for at least a month now and the coronation night is still several days away.

The finals for Miss World 2009 will be this coming Saturday, December 12.

Whirlwind and hectic are two words that describe the punishing three-country schedule of the 115 Miss World 2009 candidates. After making a brief stay in London for the Charity Gala, all of them departed for Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates for another round of appearances plus a fashion show held for the sponsors. It’s amazing how the ladies preserve their freshness despite the continuous schedule with very little time to rest. Anyways, below are some of the latest photos of Miss Philippines Marie-Ann Umali taken during the Abu Dhabi Fashion Show.

The Miss World 2009 candidates just spent a few days in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. and will be shortly departing for Johannesburg, South Africa for the official pre-pageant activities and finals on December 12.

This is truly the height of the worldwide beauty pageant season. Four, I repeat, four big international competitions are simultaneously happening in different parts of the globe. First, there is Miss Earth 2009 here in the Philippines. Then there is Mrs. World 2009 in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Meanwhile, the Miss International 2009 gets underway in Chengdu, China later this week, while the Miss World 2009 just winded up the London leg and the 115 delegates are now in Dubai, UAE for the short second leg en route to South Africa for the official pre-pageant activities and finals on December 12.

Here are some pictures of Bb. Pilipinas-World 2009 Marie-Ann Umali a few days after her arrival in London for Miss World 2009. In my opinion, she has the toughest competition ahead, on top of having more than 100 delegates to battle with.

Binibining Pilipinas-World 2009 Marie-Ann Umali was feted with a send-off to Miss World 2009 which will culminate in a grand finals come December 12, 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Marie-Ann Umali is ready to capture the elusive first Miss World crown for the Philippines

Prior to the pre-pageant activities and coronation night in South Africa, Marie-Ann will initially head to London, England together with the other delegates before traveling as a group to Johannesburg a few days later.

Marie-Ann has a tough challenge ahead. The Philippines has not won the Miss World crown ever since it started and the closest the country got to the title were in 1973 when Evangeline Pascual placed 1st Runner-Up and in 1993 with Sharmaine ‘Ruffa’ Gutierrez clinching 2nd-Runner-Up honors.

Will Marie-Ann Umali achieve what all her predecessors have failed to do? Fellow beauty queens Bianca Manalo and Melody Gersbach (plus the whole country) can only keep their fingers crossed for her.

Let’s all wish Marie-Ann Umali the best of luck as she tries to conquer the Miss World crown currently held by Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia.

Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2009 Bianca Manalo fresh from her Miss Universe stint in the Bahamas.

Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2009 Bianca Manalo was recently feted by the local organizers to a homecoming press conference at the Gateway Mall. She may not have placed in the competition, but she did the country proud with her efforts of doing so. She became one of the favorites and was even highly regarded by many pageant enthusiasts around the world…well, that is, until the shutout of Asian candidates in the semifinals.

Manalo said, ” I am so blessed and honored to represent the more than 80 million filipinos in the most prestigious pageant in the world. There were lessons learned during my 3 weeks stay in Bahamas. I’ve found not only 83 new friends from different parts of the globe but also won the respect and admiration of filipinos who took their time to gave their supports during my campaign in the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.”

The same press conference was graced with the presence of the two other reigning Binibining Pilipinas winners – Marie-Ann Umali (Bb. Pilipinas-World) and Melody Gersbach (Bb. Pilipinas-International) – who are next in line for competitions in South Africa and China, respectively. Mrs. Stella Marquez de Araneta, Chairperson of BPCI, was also around to welcome Bianca Manalo back.

If I am not mistaken, this is the first homecoming press conference hosted by BPCI for a non-winner so Bianca must have really done a great job in the Bahamas regardless of the outcome.
