Yesterday was the deadline for submission of Bb. Pilipinas 2018 applications. And beyond the euphoria of pageant fans who made the appearance of Catriona Gray trend on Twitter and other social media fronts, here are photos of some of the buzzer-beating applicants who made it to the BPCI office at the Araneta Coliseum.

This week, all applicants will undergo interviews with the legal team of BPCI in order to double check on their documents, qualifications and other essential contractual endorsements (or the absence of) that should hopefully filter the group of more than a hundred to just the ones who will undergo the one-day (all-day) final screening on Monday, January 15.

I don’t know but I really feel beautiful whenever I’m beside Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray. Her beauty radiates so bright that anyone standing beside her would feel aesthetically empowered in a way.

Daydreaming aside, the send-off for Catriona was one of the better ones I attended of late. It was so intimate that she literally blended with everyone that the members of the Press got to see her relaxed side better, aside from being sweet and gracious enough to indulge some special photo ops and request for fan videos. Talk about being game about anything despite walking around in her eye-catching Rex Nicdao gown all throughout the event.

Ms Cory Quirino is confident of Catriona’s chances in Miss World 2016. Predecessor Hillarie Parungao is also certain that she will do very well. And her Princesses Ivanna Pacis, Marah Muñoz and Sandra Lemonon are also feeling good about their sister.

Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray

It was an intimate send-off for Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray. Just the way I like it. She mixed it up with all members of the media and gamely answered all questions from the most serious to the more laid-back. In fact, I was able to corner her to sing more than a few lines of a Tagalog song upon your request, my dear readers. She chose “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” (Wish It Would Be Forever), the tune she was supposed to dance to for her “Dances of the World” entry before the segment was cancelled altogether.


Catriona is the picture of tempered confidence. She knows of being an early favorite by pageant fans and followers here and in other countries. But she still plans to show consistency in all the fast-track segments to insure her all-around visibility throughout the entire period of competition.

While she considers Sports Challenge as the relatively middling part of her performance, Cat wants to win the Beauty With A Purpose (BWAP) part and gave her best in the video that you will get to watch soon.

We all know that Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray is multi-talented. Aside from modeling, she sings, writes, blogs, draws, plays the guitar and does charity projects for the primary
education of underprivileged children. Now here’s another talent which she might have gotten from her mom – cooking. During a recent guesting on the GMA News TV early evening program “Mars” with Camille Prats and Suzi Abrera, she whipped up a dish complete with crown and sash.

Miss World Philippines 2016 | Predicting a Foregone Conclusion?

The question has been making the rounds of online message boards, social media circles and even in the middle of not-so-hushed talks among pageant followers huddled together in get-togethers or coffee dates. Does Catriona Gray have even the slightest chance to lose the Miss World Philippines 2016 crown which has already been virtually placed on her head as far back as the day that she announced her candidacy?

I must admit. You cannot find fault in Catriona Gray. Some kibitzers are saying that she shouldn’t be too sweet as to lose whatever minimal spunk she possesses in her regular aura. Other than that, I see no reason for her to walk away with just a Princess sash across her catwalk-trained body. And it actually saddens me a bit that I’m not even giving another contender or two a substantial chance to prove their worth. It just cannot be helped. Miss World Philippines has now become a national pageant where you can zero in on the clear winner from Day 1.

True. The 2015 edition provided a sprinkling of jitters during the finals among the pro-Hillarie Parungao fans and followers. But with the dead giveaways of numerous Special Awards being thrown in her way, there was only an iota of doubt that the likes of Cassandra Naidas or Mia Allyson Howell would be able to pull the rug from right under Hillarie’s dainty feet.

And so we come to this. With hesitation, I am now making a forecast on the four (4) Princesses who will make up Catriona’s court. With the #1 spot already a clear triumph for Candidate #13, let us see which quartet will stand beside her at the end of the finals.

My Top 10 + 1 for Miss World Philippines 2016


Sandra Lemonon is my 1st Princess. And in this placement, she is already considered a lock after getting a clear view of how the pre-pageant activities unraveled.

As for 2nd Princess, it could still be a toss between JDV entry Marah Muñoz and crossover A&Q bet Alyanna Cagandahan. The edge might be provided by the speech to be delivered towards the last half-hour of the program.

4th Princess for me is Arienne Louise Calingo. But this spot remains precarious still. Independent comer Roshiel Asingua, Kris Bernal-deadringer Ralph Lauren Asuncion or even the sweet Vinie Dy Quiangco could jockey up for that one last spot to make up the magic circle.

Regardless, the one sure thing that can no longer be contested is the practically foregone conclusion that Catriona Gray will be Washington, DC-bound for Miss World 2016. It’s something that only a person of less shimmer and runaway popularity can ruin the contest’s reputation.

And so, we now sit back and await the formal announcement. 🙂

John dela Vega (or JDV) has also fielded ladies for Miss World Philippines 2016 – a first for him. He enlisted four beauties – three of whom may already be quite familiar to you.

There is Candy del Castillo who was Binibini 6 during Bb. Pilipinas 2016. Second in line is Marah Olivan Muñoz who participated during Mutya ng Pilipinas 2016. She is followed by Sarah Margarette Joson who was a candidate during Jewel of the Philippines 2016. And completing the four is Jan Villanueva from PBQA Season 2.

I was told that the organizers are trying to hit at least 25 Official Candidates (28 if it can be stretched to that number) with the tentative finals night date for September 25 at the Manila Hotel.

Let’s see which ones will finally step it up to complete the line-up. 😉
