“…Mas masahol pa sa hayop ang tao…”
Let the video below of Senatoriable Manny Pacquiao speak for itself. And to think that he earned so much support from the LGBT community in all his fights in the US. He definitely drove away so many votes with his uncalled-for comments about same-sex marriage.
For someone running for the national election, his spin doctors are not doing a good job. At. all. Tsk. tsk. tsk.
Well at least, you can already tick off one choice from your list of Senators to vote come May.

The Miss World Philippines 2015 Official Candidates made a promotional appearance for the inauguration of the Chavit Singson Boeing 737 Manny Pacquiao plane at the NAIA together with Ms. Cory Quirino and the two named-Gentlemen themselves. And with Ilocos Sur committing as provincial host of the pageant this year, it all makes sense as the ladies will visit Vigan and other places in the said province as part of their pre-pageant activities.
Meanwhile, GMA-7 will be airing the finals on October 18 after a contract signing with the network the other day. Ms. Cory Quirino promises this year’s edition as the biggest ever, mentioning that the number of contestants has been the biggest assembly ever for the search to date.

Manny Pacquiao will reportedly be a judge for the 63rd Miss Universe (Art credit: fineartamerica.com)
With the reported
appearance of Boxer Manny Pacquiao as one of the judges in the 63rd Miss Universe Pageant in Doral Miami (and as confirmed by his promoter Bob Arum as well
), it begs to throw in questions like “Will it benefit our bet MJ Lastimosa?
” or “Will it spell possible disaster for Miss Universe Philippines?
You see, there are different ways of looking at the stint. Either you’re for it, against it, undecided or unmindful. But regardless, one thing for sure is that MP (Manny Pacquiao) will not be persuaded to automatically give MJ (Mary Jean) high scores just because of the common denominator between the two of them.
MJ needs to work harder to earn high marks from MP
MJ still needs to work hard to show that she deserves to get a superlative assessment from her kababayan
(and they’re both from Mindanao, if I may add
). Her first agenda is to make sure that she can guarantee a five-peat or a Top 15/16 spot at the very least. That way, there will be the opportunity for MP to judge her.
Personally, I tend to be a bit iffy about the whole scenario. I may not be against the idea, but I certainly will not welcome MP’s participation with wide open arms. For purely and passionately Miss Universe reasons, that is.
I don’t want to entertain thoughts of Miss U turning into a Missed U because of the possibilities playing inside my head.
What’s your take on the matter, dear readers? 😉
The different faces of Miss Universe Philippines Janine Tugonon
Looks-wise, Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon is no Venus Raj or Shamcey Supsup. In fact, her face is atypical of how our Miss Universe representatives looked like ever since Zorayda Andam in 2001. If at any, her mold is more leaned towards a Miriam Quiambao with strains of Nina Ricci Alagao in some ways. And it is for this reason that she stands out among the beauties of Miss Universe 2012 instead of conveniently “blending in”.
Attending the promo/presscon for the Pacquiao/Marquez fight with Mexico's Karina Gonzalez.
A couple of days back, I remember what the people from Chi commented about her register in front of the camera – Janine has a perfect face. I’m pretty sure the impression was based on how photographers/creative experts size up their subjects’ facial features and not the way a regular pageant enthusiast would be quickly enamored by a string of random photogenic snap shots. However which you look at it, every single candidate in this year’s roster has an ace or two up their sleeves – be it the face, body, personality or all.
Roommates Maria Selena of Indonesia (L) and Janine
At the end of the day, someone who stands out will always be better than the next lady who simply fits the look profile of the majority. Janine could be one of the former. She may not shoot to the top of an armchair judge’s rankings, but she will most likely be remembered (country-associated, if you will) more easily than a group of ladies who all look alike. 😉
The Best of Mexico and the Philippines (L-R): Manny Pacquiao, Janine Tugonon, Karina Gonzalez and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Only in Las Vegas can we see Miss Universe beauties and World Professional Boxing personalities together in one frame. Thanks to the upcoming fight between the Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao and Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez, their respective countries’ Miss Universe bets both got the unique opportunity of appearing side by side for a presscon/promotional shoot of the event’s pay-per-view airing. Janine Tugonon and Karina Gonzalez should be happy that the boxing match coincides with their stay on the Strip.
If only the punches of the eventual winner could translate to a victory for the Miss Universe delegate, then Janine should be a victor by Sunday. But that’s only because I’m an all-out Pacquiao fan. 😉
The Holiday issue of People Asia Magazine should be of particular interest to pageant fans out there. Aside from Manny Pacquiao, the crown jewels of Philippine participation in the 2011 international beauty competitions grace the cover. 2011 Miss Universe 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup and 2011 Miss World First Princess Gwendoline Ruais join Manny, albeit shot in two separate covers instead of the two ladies together in one frame. Blame it on the fact that they belong to different groups – Shamcey with Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. and Gwendoline with Miss World Philippines/CQGQ Global Quest.
At any rate, Shamcey and Gwendoline still come from the same beauty camp – Aces & Queens – so don’t go thinking that they have a running feud or animosity. Let’s be happy that our ladies have brought honor to the country – keeping the Philippines within striking distance of being a sash factor in the global pageant arena.
Onwards to 2012 and, hopefully, an even better record for our next beauty queens!
The Philippines’ Pride Manny Pacquiao decisions Mexican Antonio Margarito and wins his 8th world boxing title (Super Welterweight). The bout may have reached the full stretch of 12 rounds, but there’s no denying that our very own “Pambansang Kamao” (National Fist) was the unanimous winner. What a glorious day once more for Filipinos here and around the world. I daresay that he is now the world’s All-Time Best Boxer for establishing an unprecedented record of 8 world boxing belts in 8 different divisions.
MABUHAY NA MABUHAY KA, MANNY! 😉
