Congratulations to the unstoppable Jonas Gaffud!

As I have told Mercator head Jonas Gaffud in my congratulatory message to him last Saturday, he planted good seeds to insure a bountiful harvest. Now is the time to reap the rewards for a job well done.

Last Friday night, he was recognized at the Philippine Fashion Ball as the winner of Best Model Management Award – a precious honor symbolic of his outstanding efforts in running an artist and model management company that has grown in leaps and bounds during the past eight years. Popular for bringing us beauty queens (Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup, Janine Tugonon and Queenie Rehman to name some) we all love and adore (via Aces & Queens), he extended his reach to the handling of some of the country’s top-notch fashion and commercial models such as Brapanese hunks Hideo Muraoka, Daniel Matsunaga, Akihiro Sato & Fabio Ide. He also continued his foray to the world of showbiz when he started landing one contract after another for his wards who are now showbiz personalities like JC Tiuseco, Mikael Daez, Benjamin Alves, Ervic Vijandre, Kerbie Zamora, Lemuelle Pelayo and the upcoming Artista Academy hopeful Benjo Leoncio.

The guy is simply unstoppable. And to think that nearly a decade ago, all of these were but dreams waiting to happen. I remember our time together when Mabuhay Beauties was still an active pageant-loving group. It never crossed our minds that he will someday be looked up to as the famous beauty and talent connoisseur he is right now. 2004 was his first turning point because that was the year Mercator Artist and Model Management was born. The rest is continuously running history.

And so, I doff my hat to the one and only Jonas Gaffud. May you continue to bring us more world-class beauty queens, more gorgeous Film/TV idols and more fierce models on the runway and glossy pages of fashion magazines. My heartfelt congratulations once more!

Norman’s Blog turns 2 today!

July 9 is extra special for me because Norman's Blog is officially 2 years old today!

I woke up with an extra glint in my eyes this morning. My blog is now 2 years-old! Pardon the cliche’ but I can’t believe I’ve made it this far as a blogger. Two years ago today, I had no clear commitment to doing this on a regular basis, let alone a one-blog-a-day proposition. Credit goes to Miss Universe 2009 which spurred me to start devoting part of my time to the same. The encouraging support of loyal readers and visitors continuously motivate me. The daily hits normally move on an up-and-down mode, but I am extra proud of what happened last April 11, 2011 when my blog had 34,658 views on that day alone! My topic then was about the winners of Binibining Pilipinas 2011.

From hereon, I can only move to bigger and better things. And I sincerely wish that you, my dear readers, will keep dropping by and share at least a minute or two of your time in reading or looking at my daily entries. I promise to keep my blogs as reader-friendly (short, sweet and visually appealing) as always!

By the way, let me thank TV Host/VJ/DJ KC Montero and Actress/Model/DJ Kat Alano for the free plugging of my blog in the “KC Show with Kat” (Mondays-Fridays 8am-11am on Wave 89.1), i.e., everytime I call them up in the morning (as ‘Hannibal’). Actually, I don’t need to shamelessly utter my URL anymore because KC always jumps the gun on me in shouting ‘normannorman.wordpress.com’. Special thanks as well to OPMB Worldwide, Missosology Forums and Mabuhay Beauties.

Okay, time to get back to regular programming! Onwards to Year 3! 😉

Luzelle Felipe is the so-called “tricycle girl” of Bb. Pilipinas 2011 because there was a point in her young life when she actually worked part-time as a tricycle driver in her province of Malolos, Bulacan just to earn some extra income. Nothing wrong with that, I reckon. In fact, it adds some color to her background, albeit straight Tagalog-speaking she is all the time. Watch the video below and try to see if she is still raw or if she may just surprise pageant followers with a semifinal appearance on the coronation night come April 10. Here are more photos of the 40 Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Official Candidates. You can definitely see the joy and exuberance in their eyes for making it this unique year where the usual 24 contenders have been stretched to 16 more. Between now and the pageant night on April 9, a lot of things can still happen (like disqualifications due to a lot of reasons or backing-out and the like) so don’t be surprised if the number goes down (hopefully not by much) after two months.

For now, let us all enjoy these ladies. You will see more candidate-dedicated blogs in the next few weeks or so. 😉

Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Fortune-Seekers: Who will the BPCI bless?

The Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Season is finally heating up!

Ladies have started pouring in at the Araneta Center to submit their applications for this year’s edition. The screenees so far, totalling arouind 80 or so, are out to nail one of the slots as Official Candidates for 2011.

Let’s take a look at some of the beautiful women who tried their luck and waiting for confirmation from the organizers – Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) – on who will make it to the selection. Many thanks to my friend, Boyet Blas of MabuhayBeauties.com for these images.

My final 15 picks for Miss Philippines-Earth 2010; the petites will shine bright!

Since the finals of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 will culiminate in a grand pageant tonight at the Manila Ocean Park, I will now be sharing my Top 15 picks for the crown., I’m pretty sure one of these ladies will take it all the way and become the country’s official representative to the Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam later this year. In no particular order, my personal choices are:

By international beauty pageant standards, a lady is considered petite if she stands 5’5″ and below. And since the more outstanding candidates this year belong to the 5’4″-5’5″ height category, I sub-titled this blog emphasizing that the petites will shine bright tonight. In fact – save for the amazonic Gwennaelle Ruais who is at least 6′ tall – majority of the ladies are taller than the average Filipina but shorter than the generally pronounced statistic when fielded abroad. Nonetheless, what more than makes up for this is the fact that a good number of the 49 contenders have very beautiful and charming faces as can be seen in my 15 selections above.

Anyways, if I had to whittle down the 15 to just my Top 5, at least 3 petites will enter the group and they are Pandan’s Emerie Dale Cunanan (gorgeous!), Infanta’s Kris Psyche Resus (beautiful face and sensuous aura), and Meycauayan City’s Christine Hermoso (sweet face and visibly toned – albeit less shapely – body). This trio can possibly be joined by Lubao’s Angela Fernando and Taguig City’s Nicole (Kaufmann) Ortega. Conversely, if the judges would favor statuesque – in keeping up with previous winners who stand a minimum of 5’7″ – then there’s a high probability that the Top 5 would include Fil-France’s Gwennaelle Ruais or Fil USA East-Coast’s Rene McHugh and even make either win in the process.

Unless one of the five really fails in the all-important environmental Q&A, Emerie, Nicole, Angela, Kris and Christine will likely come out on top.

Watch out for the delayed TV Telecast of Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 on April 25, Sunday night over ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best. Reigning Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos of Brazil will grace the finals. 😉
