2010 may have been the year Mexico won its second Miss Universe crown, but it is also an edition worth remembering for all Filipinos worldwide because it started the decade of its two memorable wins and string of top placements. Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2010 Venus Raj placed 4th Runner-Up here.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here because the main focus is still on Ximena Navarrete who brought so much pride and joy to her country the way her National Director Lupita Jones did back in 1991.

…” Navarrete was born and raised in Guadalajara, the capital city of Jalisco, Mexico to a middle-class family. She is one of two children, born to Carlos Navarrete a dentist (He is from Sahuayo, Michoacán), and Gabriela Rosette, a house wife. She has one younger sister. She began modeling locally at the age of sixteen, and studied nutrition at the Valle de Atemajac University, prior to taking part in the world pageant…

During her reign, Ximena made at least fourteen (14) official foreign trips (excluding her several ones to the US and back to Mexico) and that made her one of the more well-traveled winners of the crown. She also became a spokesperson for L’Oreal and Old Navy, while raising awareness for Children International, a U.S.-based humanitarian organization helping over 12,000 poor children in her hometown of Guadalajara.

But it was in 2013 when Ximena made her debut on the small screen. She starred as the female lead in “La Tempestad” opposite William Levy. This was followed by another lead role in 108 Costuras two years later. It was around this time when she started dating Mexican businessman Juan Carlos Valladares. And on April 1, 2017, the two of them were married in a well-attended ceremony at the Capilla del Colegio de San Ignacio de Loyola in Mexico City. This was followed by a lavish reception at the Ex-convento de San Hipolito.

Our Miss Universe 2010 remains happily married to Juan Carlos. She continues to have a career in Mexican/Latin American showbusiness. She is still a sought-after commercial model and endorser. And she just turned 32 last February 22 – looking just as young and beautiful as the night she won the crown. Just check out the month-old video below.

Mission Possible: To get 50x fairer skin (plus 50x the benefits!)

Let’s be honest. Being fair-skinned gets you farther in this world. But if you’re already one – or wanting to be one – how will it really benefit you? Being a full-time HR practitioner, I can fully attest as to how the fairer of job applicants gets hired ahead of the rest. This is not to say that those of darker skin endowments are automatically discriminated. It’s just that the struggles are minimized along the way.

And don’t get me started with beauty pageants and the like. In a country like the Philippines where brown skin predominates, it’s funny how the fairest of contestants get noticed right away even before the morenas are given a second (or third) look.

So the question is…if you had fair or fairer skin, what can you do 50x more? How will you translate this feature into a powerful tool?

Young actress Kim Chiu was already fair when she entered showbiz. With the help of her popularity and being 50x fairer or more, she is now the most bankable teen product endorser in the Philippines.


In my case, I believe that I can get 50x more corporate accounts if I had fairer skin. Why you might ask? Because on top of my already reliable marketing and communication skills, I think that my prospects will most likely sit up and study my proposal after meeting them face-to-face. It’s an instant hook if I use it the right way. I wouldn’t call it a power but more of a come-on that doesn’t literally hurt my competition because in the end, the best offer will still prevail.

And let’s take the example of actress Kim Chiu who obviously went 50x fairer (or more) as she increased her popularity. In the process, she was able to jack up her product endorsements by 50x from her fledgling years in the biz. She is now considered one of the most sought-after celebrity endorsers in the country. Now that’s what you call power because her white face is associated with a wide assortment of brands such as Whisper, Voice Combo, Rejoice Shampoo, Bench, Jolibee, Close-Up, Smart Buddy and more! In fact, not a day passes by without seeing her on TV, billboards and print.

And how about Anne Curtis?

Her already fair skin (thanks to having Fil-Australian lineage) is 50x fairer nowadays. Aside from being the face of L’Oreal Total Repair 5, she has bagged a lot of other endorsements left and right. Just to name a few, there is Whisper (which she co-represents with Kim Chiu), HBC, GSM Blue, Swatch, Belo, Freeway and Biolink VCO.

I am not suggesting that you, my dear readers, make the beeline for fame and fortune as a celebrity (because not everyone gets the opportunity to become one) but to undertake something more achievable and within your easy reach. There is nothing impossible about getting 50x the benefits of a fairer skin. With the right objective in mind, the results are just weeks (or a couple of months) away!
