This coming Saturday, all roads will lead to the Ali Mall Activity Area for the Bb. Pilipinas 2017 Talent Competition

This coming Saturday, April 8, thirteen (13) Binibinis will showcase their talents in singing, dancing, speed painting, and martial arts, among others. And it will all happen right at the Ali Mall Activity Area starting at 3pm.

Last night, I was the only member of the recognizable pageant media ​​who attended the surprise 50th Birthday Bash of Rodgil Flores – the well-loved man behind Kagandahang Flores – which was held at Club One 690 in Quezon City. There was a visible outpouring of love from everyone who became part of his life as a beauty queen-maker, friend and loved one. The core team behind the event – led by Georgette Garrido, Kristine Caballero-Aplal, Gelbert Aplal and David Isaac Buenaventura – made sure that everything was kept in utmost secrecy up until the final reveal when the celebrant showed up at the venue unaware of what he will witness upon arrival (he was made to know that it was an important client meeting instead). He could not hold back the tears especially when an emotionally-made three-part video (which included Janicel Lubina who is currently in Brisbane for a project and Karen Agustin-Ostrea who is tied up with commitments as well) was shown detailing some of the individuals who have benefitted from his love, generosity and unconditional care.

Beauty queens spotted last night included Bea Rose Santiago, Angelia Ong, MJ Lastimosa, Parul Shah, Maggie Wilson-Consunji, Angelee Delos Reyes, Patricia Fernandez, Precious Lara Quigaman, Karla Henry, Kris Tiffany Janson, Athena Imperial, Camille Hirro, Janela Joy Cuaton, Ganiel Krishnan, Jaya San Jose, Mia Howell, Rachel Peters, Julian Flores, Abigail Cruz, Alexandra Faith Garcia, Gail Ventic, Kristine Estoque, Karen Ibasco, Brenna Gamboa and more. Mr. Gay World Philippines Organization Head Wilbert Tolentino (who was there with John Raspado and Bench Ortiz) was his usually generous self as he added a big amount to the already raised funds (whole-heartedly contributed upon by all previous titleholders and sponsors) for the future training of all KF beauty queen-aspirants. I won’t mention the exact amounts anymore but it’s definitely worth a lot.

A Trio of Bb. Pilipinas Crossovers

There is a common thread running along the background of these three ladies. Aside from being Bb. Pilipinas crossovers, that is. They all have educational attainments in either Science or Health/Medical Sciences. Angela Lauren Fernando, Miss Philippines Earth Eco Tourism 2010, is now a Doctor. Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2014 Eva Psychee Patalinjug is a nursing graduate, while Miss World Philippines 2014 Official Candidate Kristine Estoque finished a degree in Biology, a Pre-Med course.

But enough of those small details. The trio will face each other starting Friday, February 12, for the Bb. Pilipinas 2016 Screenings. And for sure, they have already been prepared well for the eagle-eyed panel by Aces & Queens, Kagandahang Flores and Jonas Borces of Cebu.

Kristine Estoque: For your Bb. Pilipinas 2016 consideration

Kristine Estoque is reportedly one of the many KF entries for Bb. Pilipinas 2016

 
Kristine Angeli Estoque is said to be one of the ladies being prepared by Kagandahang Flores for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. And the beauty camp is rumored to be submitting a more record-breaking number of applicants than Aces & Queens – numbering in the 30s if the information reaching me is true. And this tall, promising beauty from Davao is in the thick of preparations for screening days.

Back in 2014, Kristine had her first taste of national pageantry via Miss World Philippines when she was just 21. It was a good experience for this BS Biology graduate who got the full family support in the competition. Prior to this, she participated in Mutya ng Dabaw 2013 where she bagged 2nd Runner-Up (or the title of Sinag ng Danaw) during the finals.

Will this 5’9″ comer leave a strong impact on the screening panel of Bb. Pilipinas 2016? She has the potentials alright. Let’s see how well she will deliver on the bid. 😉

A Circle of Friends Amidst the Competition

In the grand scheme of things, whether another contestant is a good friend is not really that significant. This is a beauty competition after all, and survival is more geared towards a “to-each-her-own” disposition. But on the outer layer (or reasonably beneath superficial ties) of relationships, having true allies gives plus points in terms of moral and emotional support.

In the raging battle for Miss World Philippines 2014, five (5) of the eleven Kagandahang Flores entries – Lorraine Kendrickson, Gazini Ganados, Rachel Peters, Alexa Kirby and Kristine Estoque – have forged ties that unite their front in achieving the target. I’d like to think that they will be more than happy if one of them will end up #1.

And nobody will be extra proud and overjoyed more than their mentor, Rodgil Flores, should that happen. 😉

mwp20141 Venue was the spacious Eclipse Bar/Lounge at Solaire Resort & Casino. Event was the Press Presentation of Miss World Philippines 2014. In attendance were various media reps from TV, Print, Radio and Online. The objective is to get a closer look at the complete line-up of Official Candidates in this year’s batch. All twenty-six (26) of them in one place.

Event hosts are actor Mikael Daez and Miss World 2011 1st Runner-up Gwen Ruais. Entertainment number provided by Theresa Fenger.

Based on their individual presentation, my Top 5 would be (according to their assigned numbers): #1 Lorraine Kendrickson, #3 Alexa Kirby, #5 Gazini Ganados, #7 Rachel Peters and #19 Valerie Weigmann. One of them will definitely win the crown on October 12.

Now if I have to add four promising ladies with the potentials to spoil a Top 5 spot from one of the aforementioned ladies, they are #12 Christine Balaguer, #14 Nicole Donesa, #15 Theresa Regli and #20 Nelda Ibe. 😉

P.S. Some of you might be wondering why the handsome Camarines Sur Governor Miguel “Migs” Villafuerte was present. Well, it’s confirmed that the swimsuit competition will be hosted in Caramoan Island this coming Saturday. And his office will take care of the whole event. 🙂

image At the Raven Boutique Club in the Penthouse of W Building 5th in BGC, the Official Candidates of Miss World Philippines 2014 were introduced after wrapping up with the final screening. Actually, only eighteen (18) were presented so far. There were supposed to be twenty-one (21) names to be announced, but three of the ladies still needed to secure permission from their parents (talk about secretly screening). Hopefully, they will join the others in the Press Presentation scheduled next week. Four (4) more beauties will be coming from the province, according to Ms. Cory. Once everyone is accounted for, there will be a total of Twenty-five (25) in the roster all in all.

Among the 18 so far, my six favorites are: Valerie Weigmann, Rachel Peters, Gazini Ganados, Lorraine Kendrickson, Alexa Kirby and Nilda Ibe. But it would be a fairly safe estimate to pick out Valerie, Rachel, Lorraine and Gazini as the ladies who will solidly duke it out for the title. Too early a prediction? Perhaps. But if none among the still-to-show-up seven (7) can measure up to these four, then expect them to stay up there till the finals.

P.S. Of interesting note is the inclusion of deaf candidate Kristine Balaguer, just like Queen of the Philippines 2014 Princess Pura.
