Except for Kim Covert who’s already a single mom, I bet the four others have bright futures in national pageantry, specifically Bb. Pilipinas or Miss World Philippines.
Your thoughts, dear readers?
Crowned winners all
Last night at the Pacific Ballroom of Waterfront Hotel Cebu City, Steffi Pearson Aberasturi of Mandaue City proved the mightiest over 52 other candidates after she was crowned Binibining Cebu 2018. And she stayed true to her top favorite status from start to finish. She was crowned by last year’s Apriel Smith.
No runners-up were names and instead, four more titles were handed out to Binibining Cebu Tourism 2018 Kim Covert, Binibining Cebu Charity 2018 Tract Maureen Perez, Binibining Cebu Heritage 2018 Lou Dominique Piczon and Binibining Cebu Ecology 2018 Isabela Deutsch.

The panel of judges include Chairman of the Board Arnold Vegafria, Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita Ssen Marquez, MAPI’s Jacqueline Tan-Sainz and Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 1st Runner-Up Gabriela Palma among others.
The outgoing winners – Apriel Smith, Samantha Lo, Maria Gigante, Ingrid Gerodias and Kathleen Lendio were at their most regal during their farewell walk where they wore creations by Cary Santiago.

Binibining Cebu 2018 to Celebrate the Story of the Cebuana this Friday
Cebu will witness a spectacle it has never seen before during the crowning of the next Binibining Cebu on October 19, Friday, in the Pacific Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
The opening production tells the story of the Cebuana through the decades. Over 150 individuals are set to carry out performances on a backdrop conceptualized by design genius Kenneth Cobonpue. The stage will utilize digital technology provided by Epson for the first time in Cebu with direction and choreography by Victor Cuenco. With music curated by Barney Borja and sound mastered by Monching Payumo, the scoring features the 30-piece Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra, the 15-piece Bogo rondalla, the 10-man Lupon anduyo percussion ensemble and the Primiero choral group. The performers are proudly Cebuano including Luke Mejares, Missing Filemon, Jewel Villaflores, and Kenneth Corvera. The different aspects of today’s Cebuana will emerge as she sashays in swimwear by Solti Activewear and in evening gowns by internationally-acclaimed fashion designer Cary Santiago with shoes and accessories by Shandar.
Be sure not to miss this extraordinary celebration of Cebuano creativity, beauty, and talent as the country’s biggest pageant draws to a close. Doors open at 6:00 PM. Tickets are priced at Php3,000, Php2,000, Php1,500, Php1,000 and general admission at Php500. For ticket reservations and inquiries, you may visit the Binibining Cebu Office in the Ground Floor of The Greenery, Kasambagan or call Cess at 0906-263-3958.

Today, your blogger is off to the Queen City of the South to join the judging panel for the Preliminary Swimsuit and Evening Gown Competition of Binibining Cebu 2018 to be held tonight at The Tent at Mandani Bay in Mandaue City. I have been looking forward to this invitation for the longest. I am truly honored to have been given the opportunity to take part in the selection.
This is an important pre-pageant event for the biggest regional beauty competition in the Philippines as it will determine 2/3 of the scores that will bring twenty (20) of the Official Candidates closer (much like Miss Universe) to the first cut that will be announced on Finals Night come October 19 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino Cebu City.
Here are the ladies vying for the five (5) crowns at stake:
True to its claim as the biggest and grandest provincial beauty pageant in Visayas and the Philippines, Binibining Cebu held its Presentation of Candidates (all dressed up by Designer Cary Santiago) at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City earlier. Soon, you will individually meet the ladies who will vie to be the successor of last year’s titleholders – Apriel Smith, Samantha Lo and Maria Gigante. But one interesting development in this year’s edition is the inclusion of single mothers in the roster – reason why Miss Philippines Water 2014 Kim Covert is among the contenders. The other popular face in the batch is the gorgeous Steffi Aberasturi who is being primed as one of the early favorites to win come October.
More about the ladies of Binibining Cebu 2018 soon!
Origin Woman : Kim Covert , Dianne Santillan, Hazel Ortiz , Jamie Herrell & Gazini Ganados
Origin Woman Jamie Herrell
is starting to get more hype nowadays. Sven Chua, Jonas Borces and the team in Cebu are crackling like the famous Chicharon
in Carcar. And they have excellent reasons to brag about. No, make them beautiful ones if you will. There is Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell to begin with. She is like the muse. And then there are the ladies who were blogged here before as joining Bb. Pilipinas 2016 – Hazel Ortiz, Maria Gigante, Cynthia Thomalla and Gazini Ganados. Add to the mix the likes of Kim Covert, Dianne Santillan, Monica Tawide, Steffi Aberasturi, Kristine Beltran, Jessa Cariaga, Chloe Harris and Daina Nelson. Even Miss Cebu 2016 Raine Baljak is in the fold. Collectively, they are more than just tall and beautiful ladies under the Origin Woman tag.
This is Origin Model Management of Cebu – “Gracing covers, walking runways, transcending standards. That is an Origin model.”
Is this the breakaway group many people in local pageant circles are talking about? Well, you can call them whatever you want. I will only use the word “Origin” from now on. No intrigues. No hushed whispers. No secrets.

Miss Philippines Fire 2014 Ma. Paula Bianca Paz (Photo credit: Melvin Sia)
Placing in the Top 5 is better than none
When Ma. Paula Bianca Paz was crowned Miss Philippines Fire 2014 last Sunday night, many of the online comments kidded about her getting another 3rd Runner-Up placement after two editions of Miss World Philippines with the same rank. I don’t see anything ghastly about the whole thing. I believe that it’s better to have made it to the magic circle than not to have made it at all. And besides, that is where the risk of re-joining enters the picture, just as the presence of younger competitors who are just hungry for the top crown.
Bianca knew right from the start that Jamie Herrell was a fierce opponent, and that she needed triple time to even eclipse her in the final rounds. She could have managed to get Air or Water, but two other ladies (Diane Querrer and Kim Covert) were deemed better in the Q&A.
Back to the drawing boards, where will she head to next? For now, I think it would be for her best interest (and her camp) to fulfill the year-long responsibilities as the element of Fire first. The clock may be ticking faster – age-wise – but there’s no other option that will serve her better at this juncture. 😉
