Last year, KF Tarlac brought us #PilotBeautyQueen Nelda Ibe who eventually won the Bb. Pilipinas Globe crown and went on to place 1st Runner-Up in The Miss Globe held in Tirana, Albania. This time around, the same group prepared an International Flight Attendant who goes by the name of Maria Samantha Celis.
Sam is no stranger to beauty pageants, especially in her province of Tarlac where she held the titles of Miss Tarlac State University 2009, Miss Teen Tarlac City 2010, Miss Tarlac City 2013 and Mutya ng Lalawigan ng Tarlac 2014. She graduated Magna cum Laude from Far Eastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Tourism Management. These achievements helped a lot in clinching her first job as FA in a local airline company before moving up to her current one for Saudia Airlines – something she passionately enjoys being an avid traveler.
In the public speaking department, she also had her share of the limelight in the past after having represented her university in various nationwide Academic Extemporaneous Speaking contests.
Sam is a brainy 24 year-old who stands 5’6.5” and measures 34-25-35. She will submit her Bb. Pilipinas 2018 application tomorrow – January 6 – along with some of the other #KF2018 beauties.
The pilot is now a certified Beauty Queen
When Nelda Ibe started out her Bb. Pilipinas 2017 journey late last February, she was still middling between plus and regular sizes brought about by her activities as a cadet pilot that involved more of seating in the cockpit and taking training classes.
It only took her a couple of weeks to shed off the unwanted weight and presented herself during the Press Presentation in a shapelier frame that complimented her over 5’9″ frame. And as the competition progressed, she bloomed even more and got the constant approval of the organizers. In fact, she is one of the few Binibinis who never got lost in the shuffle everytime Madame SMA – who fondly called her “The Pilot” – was around. And during Coronation Night, she finally stepped forward to assume the title of Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2017.
Getting crowned by Nichole Manalo
Here is her short post-victory message on social media:
Another treasured moment that I’ll be forever grateful and beyond blessed! Thank you so much to my loved ones and supporters, you were my rock! Last (Sunday) night was so magical and truly an amazing experience to share my victory to all of you! 👑
I am your Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2017!👑 Or known as your #pilotbeautyqueen 😘 I love you all! To God be the glory! 🙏🏻☝🏻
Dates and hosting details for The Miss Globe 2017 are not yet out, but Nelda will definitely prepare for the competition even more. She is proud of having given her home province of Tarlac a new national beauty queen and intends to level up the achievement to become the country’s second winner in the said pageant.
Fly high, Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2017! 🙂
The Miss World Philippines 2014 2nd Princess is all set to soar in Bb. Pilipinas 2017

You might easily remember Nelda Ibe as the Miss World Philippines 2nd Princess during the reign of Valerie Weigmann last 2014. A few will also recall her being part of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2013 where she represented Tarlac. So when she kept a low profile after serving her term for MWP and did not resurface in another pageant from 2015-2016, her supporters thought that she has decided to focus more on plans of becoming a pilot instead. And this she did at the Clark Aviation School in Pampanga.
But much to the pleasant surprise of her camp – KF Tarlac – she made the decision to join Bb. Pilipinas 2017 after recently finishing her Solo Fly as Captain Cadet student. And so, we will definitely see this 23 year-old 5’10” stunner joining the other KF registrants later this month at the BPCI Office to formally sign up.
Nelda (2nd from left) during MWP2014
I really like Nelda. Outside the gowns and platform heels, she is relaxed, laid-back and very beautifully sensible. But once she gets made up and all, she transforms into a potential beauty queen just waiting in the wings (no pun intended
) for her chance to shine at her brightest.
Watch out for Nelda Ibe in Bb. Pilipinas 2017!
This beautiful lass from Tarlac is still undecided on whether to go for Bb. Pilipinas 2017 or wait for 2018 to come
For Dianne Irish Joy Lacayanga, Mutya ng Pilipinas 2016 was a good pageant experience that built up her confidence to go for bigger opportunities along the way. She segued to a couple of regional/provincial contests to polish her presentation skills even more and got to win smaller titles in the process of doing so. Is she ready to return to the big city (from Paniqui, Tarlac
) and see if she can conquer the Big Dome?
I briefly chatted with her handler – Ef Taberna of KF Tarlac – and told me that they are still in the midst of a 50/50 evaluation of the final decision to go or to let go for now. There are factors that they are seriously weighing and if there will be clarity before the last week of February, then we shall see this girl at the BPCI Office all dolled up for the screenings.
Good luck in the decision-making, Dianne! 🙂
Will it be a go for Dianne in Bb. Pilipinas 2017?
Joanna Camelle Mercado comes from Floridablanca, Pampanga
Joanna during Miss Beauche International 2015
Now here’s another fresh-faced beauty who will screen for Bb. Pilipinas 2017. She is 21 year-old Joanna Camelle Mercado from Floridablanca, Pampanga who stands a clean 5’9″. While no longer new to local pageants and the like, this will be her first-time to try her luck in the big league. Some of her previous achievements include a 4th Runner-Up finish (and Best in Swimsuit award
) during the recently-concluded Miss Mandaluyong 2017, a 3rd Runner-Up placement (and Miss Photogenic
) in Mutya ning Kapampangan 2016, plus a runner-up rank in Miss PASUC Nationals 2015.
This future educator is preparing hard for the screenings of Bb. Pilipinas this month. And her handler – Ef Taberna of KF Tarlac – is hopeful that his ward will get the nod of the screening committee to become a Binibini in this year’s edition.
Good luck, Joanna! 🙂
