It’s hard to come up with just a Top 15 again so I decided to stop the count at 17. There are some very fabulous creations here but I also need to assess the way the candidate wore the same.

If I had to pick 4 others for a Top 5, I will add Miss Greece Iliana Papageorgiou, Miss France Laury Thilleman, Miss Peru Natalie Vertiz and Miss Angola Leila Lopes.

This is, without a doubt, the hardest part to armchair-judge. Majority of the ladies really brought their A-game when it comes to showcasing their voluptuous bodies. And for a very good reason. This is the favorite segment of the pageant’s complete demographics. And much as I had difficulty trimming the 89 down to just 17 favorites, here goes my list in alphabetical order…

So who’s the shapeliest, the most sensuous and the most confident in her swimsuit? For me, it’s a triple toss among Kosovo’s Aferdita Dreshaj, Denmark’s Sandra Amer and Chile’s Vanessa Ceruti. But three more ladies are hot on their trails, namely, Panama’s Sheldry Saez, Venezuela’s Vanessa Goncalvez and Spain’s Paula Guillo. This portion is really a battle between the Latinas and the Europeans and my take is that the latter have an edge this time around.

What’s a beauty pageant without beach scenes? So the Miss Universe 2011 delegates have been whisked to Praia de Enseada for a day of taping and frolicking in its cool waters. It is cold in Sao Paulo right now, but nothing beats parading in two piece swimwears and sexily posing to photographers.

Miss Universe 2011: Party Girls!

All work and no play can always dull anyone up. The same applies to the 2011 Miss Universe candidates who took some time off from their heectic schedule to dance the night away at The Society, one of Sao Paulo’s hottest night spots. Shamcey & So-ra: roommates now, friends for life after

It has been said time and again that deep friendships are formed not just through the length of time that two individuals have been together, but also the quality of closeness achieved even in just a span of three weeks to a month.

Such is the case with Miss Universe 2011 roommates Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup and Miss Korea Jung So-ra. The two ladies have been almost inseparable except for the special events they have to attend with different batches. It is kind of ironic that the two ended up together under one hotel room for the entirety of the pageant. The Philippines and South Korea have been sharing a sort-of familial bond for many years now, owing to the heavy influx of Koreans residing and/or studying in the country.

And with So-ra’s sweet disposition and fluency in English (American English at that), Shamcey continues to communicate with her very smoothly, hence, their initial level of acquaintanceship graduating to more sisterly intimacy by now.

Whatever the outcome of the competition is, these two ladies will most definitely continue their friendship after Sao Paulo. 🙂

Miss Universe 2011: Outshine! Outsmile! Outpose!

The word of the day is ‘out.’ With Miss Universe 2011 in full swing, the name of the game is to survive the onslaught of gorgeous national beauty queens from all over. And by that, I mean…OUTSHINE! OUTSMILE! OUTPOSE!

Miss Brazil Priscila Machado may not be the most welcoming host delegate, but it cannot be denied that she is in it to win it!

Miss Finland Pia Pakarinen is coming out from the cold Finnish weather to add more heat to Miss Universe 2011.

Miss Mexico Karin Ontiveros does not look bothered that the reigning Miss Universe titleholder is her compatriot Ximena. She is zeroing in on a back-to-back victory.

Miss Nicaragua Adriana Dom is not about to take the competition sitting down. She wants to stand out and become her country's first Miss Universe.

Roommates or not, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup (L) and Miss Korea Jung So-ra won't have difficulty communicating with each other since the latter speaks fluent American English.

Miss Costa Rica Johanna Solano may look shorter than her reported height of 5'9" in person, but she remains to have one of the sweetest faces in the pageant.

Miss Ireland Aoife (pronounce 'ee-fah') Hannon is bringing the luck of the Irish that her predecessor Rozzana Purcell had last year.

Miss Dominican Republic Dalia Fernandez plans to use those soulful eyes to wow Sao Paulo from Day 1.

Just wait for Miss Panama Sheldry Saez to unpack her luggages before turning the heat on. She is one of the forces to reckon with in the pageant.

Miss Trinidad & Tobago Gabrielle Walcott is one of the oldest delegates at 27. But don't let the number fool you into thinking that she will serve as big sister to everyone.

Getting into the carnival spirit, Miss Paraguay Alba Riquelme (L) and Miss USA Alyssa Campanella are. Who's fiercer?

Miss China Luo Zilin is fast becoming a favorite in Sao Paulo. Don't ask me why just yet. She's very tall and a master of the runway, though.

Jung So-ra has waited long enough for Miss Universe 2011. Will she be rewarded?

Jung So-ra: South Korea's bet to Miss Universe 2011

Jung So-ra was crowned Miss Korea 2010 last July 25, 2010 and earned the right to represent South Korea in Miss Universe 2011. But that was 11 months ago and this pretty Asian has had more than enough time to train and polish for the pageant. Even before she packs her numerous luggages for Sao Paolo, Brazil, she will have already spent one full year of preparation. Will her patience be rewarded in due time?

This 20 year-old, who stands 1.71m, is a multi-linguist. She can speak Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and English. It’s a pity she did not master Portuguese because that would have come in handy when she begins her conquest for the Miss Universe crown. But I’m sure she took some lessons in the same and could speak more than the required “Obrigado!” (Thank You!) or “Bom Dia!” (Good Day!)

Once she arrives in South America before mid-August, So-ra will join a bevy of strong candidates from the Asian region to try and pin down another victory that would equal Riyo Mori’s in 2007. Will she stand out? We’ll see. 😉
