Ma. Carmella Michelle Dolmer is crowned Daragang Magayon 2015!
Fresh from the Albay Astrodome, the winners of Daragang Magayon Festival 2015 were crowned in a festive celebration of beauty, elegance and all-around charm.
Top favorite Ma. Carmella Michelle Dolmer was named Daragang Magayon 2015. The 17 year-old beauty of Filipino-Canadian lineage led the competition from start to finish after getting a lion’s share of the special awards, aside from charming the star-studded panel of judges. She stands 5’8″.
With more training, I’m pretty sure we’ll see more of this drop dead gorgeous girl come 2016 in the nationals. She will be safely 18 by then and fully polished.
1st Runner-Up is Francia Layderos with 2nd Runner-Up honors going to Christine Arnedo. Named Daragang Magayon Turismo is Iana Villania, while Carmela Doma took home Daragang Magayon Almasor.
Hosted by Isabelle Daza, the board of judges included celebrities like Jaclyn Jose, Eula Valdez, Angel Aquino, Joyce Ann Burton-Titular and Lem Pelayo, together with model Rocky Salumbides, designers Jojie Lloren & Frederick Peralta plus special guest Geoff Eigenmann.
Congratulations are in order for Ma. Carmella Michelle Dolmer and her handler Jud Ballesteros who happens to be the regional mentor of Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidate Marvi Ann de Lima. I’m truly happy with this victory! 😀

She was Binibini 3 during Bb. Pilipinas 2014. And now, she can lay claim to a victory all her own.
KF-trained Joanna Angelica Romero drew on her rich pageant experience in the regional and national level, plus the guidance of the reality program’s resident mentors (she got assigned to Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman), to land on top and be crowned the Grand Winner of Pinay Beauty Queen Academy Season 1. The final challenge is the pageant itself that was aced by the pretty Bicolana in practically all fronts. She is followed by 2nd Placer Janelle Olafson and 3rd Placer Katrina Verde.

Congratulations to the Top 3 and Joanna in particular. Will we get to see her presence felt even more in 2015? 😉
Tonight, the Season 1 finale of Pinay Beauty Queen Academy – to be hosted by Ali Forbes and Lance Raymundo – will go live at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre of Resorts World Manila where the final challenge will be revealed and one top winner selected from the remaining contenders.
There is no confirmation yet on whether the #1 placer will be automatically fielded in one of the national beauty contests for 2015, but suffice it to say that whoever she is will have the right amount of confidence and transformation to enlist in the likes of MPE or Mutya.
By the way, the TV telecast of the finals will air tomorrow night at 9:45PM on GMA News TV. 😉

It’s no secret that I love local indie movies. That’s why I support Cinemalaya year after year. And for 2014, the eagerly-awaited film festival is turning a decade old – “A Decade of Connecting Dimensions” as the tagline states. And just to widen the reach beyond the Cultural Center of the Philippines, four (4) more cinema venues – Greenbelt 3, Alabang Town Center, Trinoma and Fairview Terraces – have committed to the simultaneous showing of the entries.
Nora Aunor leads the cast of Joel Lamangan’s “Hustisya” (Justice).
The participating movies are worth looking forward to, especially that a number of our mainstream (read: commercial
) actors and actresses have agreed to appear in some of them. For example, there is top comedienne/box-office draw Ai-ai de la Alas who will take her dramatic turn in Nick Olanka’s “Ronda
” (Patrol). Superstar Nora Aunor will share the screen with TV performers Sunshine Dizon and Rocco Nacino in Joel Lamangan’s “Hustisya
” (Justice). Matinee idol Elmo Magalona will star with former Bb. Pilipinas Universe Joyce Ann Burton-Titular and Slater Young in “#Y
” (Hashtag Y) from Gino Santos. Aiko Melendez will topbill Louie Ignacio’s “Asintado
” (Between the Eyes). Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman will be part of the ensemble cast of “Separados” by GB Sampedro. And Dennis Trillo with Derek Ramsay and Richard Gomez will take centerstage in “The Janitor
” from director Mike Tuviera.
There’s definitely more to come. I will keep you updated on more of the details (including screening times) as the festival dates draw near. In the meantime, you can also visit Cinemalaya’s Facebook page to know more about the other movies in the official roster. 😉

A table full of bloggers from ABQ, Sash Factor, Pageant Tribune and yours truly. Carol of Rappler.com was also with us. (Photo courtesy of Sash Factor's Brix Vera)
It’s always heart-warming to connect and re-connect with fellow pageant bloggers. The air of friendly competition is pervasive, inspite of what some readers might think. And in the recently-concluded Charity Gala Night of Miss World Philippines 2013 at the Solaire Grand Ballroom, one table was reserved for members of the online press (plus two more for those representing the broadsheets and tabloids).
I’ve had the pleasure of bonding – even for just a few hours – with Joyce Ann Burton-Titular of ABQ and her husband Ron, Brix Vera/Christianne Bernardo/Raymond Golez of Sash Factor, PJ Anonuevo of Pageant Tribune and Carol (her surname slipped my mind) of Rappler.com plus Georgia of ETC.
Of course, the eternal regulars and respected colleagues from OPMB Worldwide – Noli Berioso, Jory Rivera, Bruce Casanova and Melvin Sia – were also in attendance. So it was really a perfect opportunity to have all these pageant-dedicated individuals under one roof.
And where does your blogger fit into all of this? Everywhere! Like a pseudo-host of the night, I was hopping from one table to the next, looking for familiar faces to greet and engage in small talks with. That’s me after I started warming up to the event. 😉
