During last night’s post-announcement of the Misters 2015 The Pageant winners onstage, the outgoing titleholders posed for a souvenir group shot with their respective successors. And they could not have been prouder of the individuals taking over their place.

Of the four, Mister International Philippines 2015 Reniel Villareal invites the biggest pressure with Neil Perez as the reigning Mister International. It’s not like going for a back-to-back win is impossible, but the odds are heavily stacked on the side of the Pagbilao, Quezon native, host delegate and all.

As for Mister Global Philippines 2015 Rick Kristoffer Palencia, the overseas mission to win the country’s first Mister Global victory is not any easier. But at the very least, he has no unnecessary strain going into the competition early next year, knowing that he has equal fighting chance as the rest, unlike the representative of Vietnam who will go for broke in following his compatriot’s victory last year.

Mister Model International Philippines 2015 Arcel Yambing has different concerns to deal with. First, his contest in Miami, Florida is already scheduled for November 9. He needs to apply for and successfully get a US Visa within the next few weeks. And to top it all, he may need to reinvent himself as a reliable runway and photographic model to bring in a more improved version of himself.

Lastly, Mister Tourism Philippines 2015 Willan Pagayon will need all the patience he can muster to wait for his turn to compete internationally. Judah Cohen will still banner the country’s participation in Mister Tourism International 2015 next month. So the ever-smiling Ilonggo will have to bear with another year-long cycle before being fielded in 2016. But hey, it will afford him a longer training period, and lots of potential pageant judging stints and personal appearance bookings in between.

The prospects may not be as crystal-clear at this point for all four (4) Misters, but I trust that they will have the drive and commitment to train and conquer their respective assignments with pride for the Philippines.

The passing of the baton is now complete. The next lap has just started. And the run will be long and demanding. So all I can do for now is to ask them to take a much-needed rest first before plunging into preparations. Lord knows they need a short break to recharge their batteries and fine-tune their altered states pounded during the past three weeks. šŸ˜‰

image And the media appearances of the Misters 2015 The Pageant Official Candidates have started.

After yesterday’s radio tour which included a visit to DZRH Radio Television, the guys woke up for an early call time to do their first big network guesting on GMA-7’s morning show ‘Unang Hirit’ with host Suzie Abrera interviewing them alongside Mister Global Philippines 2014 Joseph Doruelo.

Everyone had a good time in the activity which took place only hours earlier. And they know very well how important these exposures really are.

There will be more in the coming days and weeks ahead, Misters! šŸ™‚

Last night, Mister International 2014 Neil Perez was feted to a joyous birthday bash at 1Esplanade Lounge. He just turned 30 and the people at PEPPs thought it most fitting to celebrate the event where his close friends from childhood, pageantry and the police force attended, along with sponsors (UniSilver Time and Teceruma Spa), some of the Misters of Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidates and select members of the Press.

Everyone had only the kindest words for the celebrant who continues to be a source of inspiration to many and quite the simple guy who just happens to be good-looking and all. When asked about one of his birthday wishes, he shared that he just wants to save enough to be able to build his own house – not the dream structure others would visualize, but something that he can proudly call the result of his hard work.

The party extended till shortly after midnight where there was non-stop music, dancing, singing and bonding – an all-around wholesome event full of smiles and good vibes.

Happy Birthday again, Neil! šŸ˜€

Throwback Thursday 2: A great bunch of 2014 Misters

image During Misters 2014, the organizers assembled a set of winners you’d never thought would blend well at the onset. There is the UK-bred Adam Davies who had a hard time adjusting to the climate and the food. There is the wide-eyed and enthusiastic Joseph Doruelo who had so many dreams running inside his head. There is the Cebuano Fil-Am Judah Cohen whose work background made it at times difficult for him to join in the flow of things in the male pageant world. And there is the more relatively easy-going Nicko Cruz who also wanted to shine on his own inspite of being tagged as “mere” 1st Runner-Up by some intrigue-loving online posters. Thankfully, the presence of a big brother in Neil Perez helped pull things together. He is like a glue who adjusts his adhesiveness depending on the quirks/peculiar moods of each one.

Almost a year later, the group has become more like a band of brothers. Adam may not be present all the time given his commitments back home, but promises to be home for Misters of Pilipinas 2015 and complete a much-awaited reunion. Neil, Joseph and Nicko are solid as a rock. And Judah has always made his own sincere efforts to be an integral part of the family.

It does help a lot that the organizers run the whole thing like a big household where the division of labor is defined, and responsibilities are handled with commitment. During their recent concerts in Samar, the boys showed how much they have gotten close to each other. And with the worthy addition of Mister International 2013 Jose Anmer Paredes who now feels more Filipino than Venezuelan (figuratively, of course), the group has grown in number and, most certainly, in character. šŸ˜‰

Misters of Pilipinas 2015: Four for the Final Screening

There were only four (4) who went to yesterday afternoon’s 3rd and final screening of Misters of Pilipinas 2015. But boy oh boy, did these guys stand out. Top of the applicants was a Filipino-Turkish model from Butuan City (he actually grew up in Germany) who has a very hypnotic face framed by curly locks which add more character to his overall appeal. He can also sing a la Ed Sheeran doing bare acoustics. And did I already mention that at close range, he has a semblance to Someone up there?

Next in line is a brusque-looking but handsome MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Fighter from San Pablo City, Laguna. He is a Pre-Law student who spends most of his study time finishing a college thesis at the moment. And he can speak his mind very well.

And then we come to the lyrical hip-hop dancer from Concepcion, Tarlac. He may be only 20 years young, but his mature demeanor and amiable ways can really charm people around him. He is an Accountancy graduate who prefers going for his real interests more than making balance sheets and financial statements.

Lastly, a Call Center Agent from Calapan, Oriental Mindoro made it in the nick of time. He is an articulate conversationalist who can also sing his way to the hearts of many.

My tags for the four who went to the final screening yesterday

These four guys will most likely join the rest of the applicants who made it to the Grand Callback scheduled this Friday, July 24 at the Fisher Mall. Will they cruise to the list of Official Candidates? That remains to be seen for now. But I am optimistic about the chances of at least half of the quartet. šŸ˜‰

This is it! Final Casting Call for Misters of Pilipinas 2015. It’s going to be this Sunday (tomorrow), July 19, or you will have to wait one full year to get another chance.

The screening panel (of which your blogger is part of) is anticipating a turnout that will exceed the ones held last July 5 and 12. And this should really make the activity extra challenging. Just like Bb. Pilipinas, the more eagerly-awaited applicants will show up on the last day.

This is it! Last casting date on July 19, Sunday

  mistersofpilipinas2015a This coming Sunday, July 19, will be the final casting call for Misters of Pilipinas 2015 before the one big callback for all those who signed up for the male pageant and qualified as potential candidates for this year’s batch. According to my sources, only around twelve (12) – give or take one or two – spots need to be filled up as the remaining ones have already been earmarked for the regional winners and the various representatives of the different Filipino Communities abroad.

This is going to be a lot tougher than I thought. With the guys who did very well during the 1st and 2nd screenings, the addition of more (and possibly stronger) comers this weekend will make the less-than-mad scramble for slots extra challenging. But that’s the beauty of it all. Deliberations are always welcome, and justifying the inclusion of one over the other is something that I enjoy doing.

I can’t wait to see who will make it till the end. This is exciting! šŸ˜‰

The big crowds came in full force for our Misters in Samar

In conjunction with the Anniversary of Teceruma Spa – co-presenter of Misters of Pilipinas 2015 – two concerts were held in Dolores and Borongan in Samar Province where our Misters2014 winners – Mister International 2014 Neil Perez, Mister Global Philippines 2014 Joseph Doruelo, Mister Tourism International Philippines 2014 Judah Cohen and 1st Runner-Up Nicko Cruz – joined Mister International 2013 Jose Anmer Paredes, Supermodel International Philippines Shanice Eve Bailon, Mr. Asia Philippines 2014 Christian Mark Galang and the boy band Freshmen in two nights (July 10 &11) of pure fun and entertainment for the locals.

Teceruma owners John & Tess Herbst led the contingent as the guests were paraded around town in a motorcade. And you will be amazed at the big crowds that packed the Provincial Capitol Gym in Borongan and the Dolores Blvd. Gym in Dolores. The performers enjoyed doing their song-and-dance numbers for them. And our Misters are very popular out there, much to the pleasant surprise of the pageant organizers.

This coming Sunday, July 12, will be the 2nd screening callbacks for Misters of Pilipinas 2015. For those who have already qualified during the 1st screening last July 5, your next call date will be for the Final Screening tentatively scheduled for July 18.

For those who missed coming last July 5 due to the bad weather (and the ones who have made the decision to join only now), this will be your chance to be screened by the panel and get a crack at becoming one of this year’s Official Candidates.

Please take note of the qualifications and the contact details to facilitate your application (don’t forget your latest photos! ). Once you come on Sunday, be at your best and don’t forget to bring a good pair of swimming trunks for the on-the-spot photo and video shoot.

Despite the non-stop rains and unusual Sunday traffic, the first screening callback of Misters of Pilipinas 2015 was held at the PEPPs Tower in San Juan yesterday afternoon. Fourteen (14) applicants made it amidst the inclement weather, with a few more unable to arrive on time and requested for another schedule. I was part of the screening panel, alongside Mister International 2014/15 Neil Perez and John & Tessie Herbst of Teceruma. We all took the grilling of the applicants to heart.

The wide variety of guys who came shows that the interest of male joiners have significantly risen this year. There is a Farmer from Pampanga, an Architect from Quezon City, a Doctor of Public Administration from Batangas, a caretaker from Baguio City, a SPED teacher from UP Diliman, a professional model from Laguna, an Engineer with Manila Water and more. And mind you, a good number can really articulate themselves well, both in English and Tagalog.

image The screening actually took on a two-stage process. There was preliminary interview and ramp walking assessment conducted by Mister International 2013 Jose Anmer Paredes, Mister Global Philippines 2014 Joseph Doruelo and Supermodel International Philippines 2015 Shanice Eve Bailon before they were sent up for the photo and video shoot with Aski Pascual. After that, it was the dreaded panel interview that got most of them nervous. Good thing we all made sure that they relaxed and focused on their answers in a light manner. In the end, some of them even gamely displayed their singing talents to the delight of the committee.

A week from now, the 2nd callbacks will be conducted where the pre-screened entries from some noted modeling agencies (and beauty camps, perhaps) will join the ones who passed yesterday’s activity. Hopefully, the final cast of Official Candidates will be made known by the 3rd week of July. The entries from the Filipino Communities of Australia (Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane), Italy, Spain, Japan and Korea, plus the regional winners from Ilocos Norte, La Union, Davao Oriental and other provinces, are already seeded.
