My pageant colleague Jory Rivera is in Las Vegas at the moment to cover Miss Universe 2015. And what a joy it is to see our Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach getting a long stream of shots with the other candidates.
In this post, the pageant’s National Gift Auction was in focus. Our bet offered a set of beautiful pearl necklace and earrings which reportedly got a lot of bidders. Hopefully, it will have fetched a good price after the completion of the activity.
In the meantime, enjoy her photographs with the candidates. No selfies for the meantime. Just glossy images of our Queen P. 😉

Good deeds should never go unnoticed. And this is the reason why I came up with a post to share with you the charity and medical mission organized by the Iceland-based JLKJLU
in Lipayran Island, Cebu which benefitted the kids of the place. Led by its Mission Ambassador Dr. Stephanie Sitoy (Mrs. Globe Philippines 2014
) and a group of professional volunteers, they brought joy to the hearts and health of the recipients.
Allow me to give this space to my Pageant Colleague Jory Rivera to share his recollections of the mission advocacy where he was a part of.
Beauty Queen with a Mission Advocate… Last Saturday, I had the chance to embark on a mission in Lipayran Island, Cebu (an hour boat ride from Bantayan Island). Beauty Queen on a Mission, together with JLKJLU, Project Pearl (Iceland) and ENFiD (Europe), distributed school supplies and hygiene kit to 200 kids in Lipayran Island. With a population of roughly 4,000 and seaweed farming as its main livelihood, the island doesn’t have a potable water source. They either boil rain water or buy it from neighboring islands. Also, the island is not accessible to boats when its low tide making it more difficult to transfer goods for the people of Lipayran. Electricity is also a scarce commodity in the island as they have a scheduled time within the day where they get power.
It was a very memorable day for me. A very fulfilling one. It was a time for me to give back and a way to thank God for all the blessings He has given me. The smiles on the faces of the kids warmed my heart, seeing happiness fill the venue.
I would like to thank Maflor Blanchefleur Ý, Ate Lilja Védís Hólmsdóttir and Ne L Mafor having me as an advocate for a very worthy cause. Thank you also to Dr. Stephanie Sitoymd (Mrs. Globe Philippines 2014) and Cebu’s Designer par excellence Harley Ruedas Hurl Lee River Roi for also taking part on this mission with me. Special shout-out to the JLKJLU volunteers from Leyte, Cebu and CDO for working hard in making this mission possible.
This is just the start…

Binibini 9 Maolin Yalung and Binibini 30 Patricia Lae Ejercitado (Photo credit: Jory Rivera)
Binibinis 9 Maolin Yalung and 30 Patricia Lae Ejercitado stand on opposite ends of candidate classification. The former is a Bb. Pilipinas first-timer, the latter a 3rd time-joiner.
Given that premise, does the more seasoned Ejercitado have the edge because of her previous stints in the competition? And is Yalung still going through her baptism of fire in the nationals – still unripe for serious consideration but ready for initial battles?
In my books, prior experience is not a fool-proof guarantee of doing much better than before or way before. But it is a definite lesson provider on how to improve on past shortcomings or in Pat’s case, styling. As far as Mao is concerned, there is always the fresh look and/or beginner’s luck to bank on. After all, beauty contests can also be a gamble.
Win big or lose big. Who will get the winning roll of the dice between the two? 🙂

When Larry Elima of Sash Factor greeted me ‘Merry Christmas’ earlier, he attached a link to their pageant group’s “10 Most Influential People in Philippine Pageantry for 2013” and I was (and still am) truly touched with the inclusion of your blogger on the list.
To be placed in the company of major movers like Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta, Ms. Cory Quirino and Jonas Gaffud, well-known Fashion Designer Francis Libiran, Fitness Guru John Cuay and fellow pageant enthusiast Jory Rivera of OPMB Worldwide is an honor in itself. To Larry, Brix Vera, Raymond Golez, Dencio Natividad, Khristianne Luna Bernardo and the rest of the Sash Factor team, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Let us all look forward to the thrills and excitement of the coming year. Our community can definitely live in harmony if we all have the same mission in mind for our beauty queens and pageantry (both local and international) in general.
Mabuhay tayong lahat! 😀
BBP2013 Official Candidate #15 Pia Wurtzbach (Photo credit: Noli Berioso/OPMB Worldwide)
OPMB Worldwide, through Jory Rivera and Noli Berioso – two of its hardworking correspondents – was able to corner Bb. Pilipinas 2013 Official Candidate Pia Wurtzbach during the Talent Show held last Saturday afternoon. Call this a quick pick on the brains of the lovely Fil-German contender who is proudly representing Cagayan de Oro in the competition. Three questions, three answers. Here goes the video:
Through the courtesy of OPMB Worldwide’s Jory Rivera, I am posting below a short video of the 50 Official Candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2013 right after they were named as such (with a single yellow rose to indicate their inclusion). See if you can find your favorites. You can also check on who’s really taller than who, or who registers telegenically.
This is just the start.
Watch out as these lovelies start their respective quests for the crown! 😉
To be able to field one, two or three Official Candidates to the annual Bb. Pilipinas search is already an achievement in itself. But to secure twelve (12) slots is certainly a major boost to Aces & Queens – the Jonas Gaffud-led beauty camp responsible for Shamcey Supsup, Venus Raj, Jennifer Barrientos, Gionna Cabrera, the late Melody Gersbach and more. They truly outdid themselves this year by cornering more than 1/3 of the total count – three more and they would’ve gone for half of the 30.
I can safely state that at least one (or two) of them will land a crown come April 15 finals night. As to who, my lips are still tightly sealed because it would obviously be too premature to give out predictions at this point when there are still two months to go before the winners are announced.
Anyways, without further ado, let me present to you Aces & Queens’ “Dazzling Dozen” for Bb. Pilipinas 2012…..

Many thanks to the fab Jory Rivera of OPMB Worldwide for all the images above.
P.S. And may I ask a bit of indulgence from you, dear readers? These photos were taken during the long waiting stretch of final deliberations last Saturday night. So please go ‘a tad’ gentle on the comments for this blog feature. 😉
