Finally, the Bragais™ Flagship Store opens at 42 Scout Borromeo, Quezon City. And who better to become its first endorser but Miss Universe 2018 herself, Catriona Gray!
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea leads the launching of the Philippine Quincentennial Commemorations at the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in Ermita, Manila on December 21, 2018.
In order to strengthen the Filipino people’s love of country and national unity, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the Executive Order (EO) No. 55, s. of 2018, on May 08, 2018, indicating the constitution of a “steering committee for the commemoration of the quincentennial of the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in the Philippines, the victory of Lapu-Lapu in the Battle of Mactan, and other historic events that happened from 1519 to 1522”.
With this, the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) was created to prepare the comprehensive plan for today’s launching. Among the highlights of the program include the unveiling of the commemorative logo and the exhibition of the national costume worn by newly crowned Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
The NQC expressed its interest in the beauty queen’s national costume as it features motifs that signify the country’s long history, including 16th century tattoos adorned by Visayan warriors.

The sketches by Jearson Demavivas
This is #BuongPilipinas called “Celebrate” as stated during the description of Miss Philippines Catriona Gray’s National Costume for Miss Universe 2018. A collaborative effort among Queen Cat herself for concept, Eric Quiwa for Luzon (Parol), Jearson Demavivas for Visayas (Pintados body) and Jojo Bragais for Mindanao (the shoes and the headdress).
The actual NatCos – front and back
I was told that the lantern should have been lighted onstage, but was prevailed upon by the safety and security people of the venue from proceedings with that part.
The reactions are mixed. Half of the fans liked it. Half of the fans are underwhelmed. I am slightly higher than middle because I know the hardwork and sleepless nights that went into it. I still believe that the team should get an A for effort with the finished ensemble.
Miss Philippines Catriona Gray and her National Costume for Miss Universe 2018:
The following video is Part 1 of the reveal of what Queen Cat will be wearing during the pageant’s National Costume Competition this coming December 10 in Pattaya.
Let us start from the top – Luzon!
And what better way to usher in the festive Holiday Spirit than to have the upper part of her ensemble depict the joyous stargazing #GiantLanterns of Pampanga.
Click on the video by Jolo Luarca (I am teary-eyed just watching) below and watch out for the contribution of the Visayas very soon!
