Showbiz personalities who cross over to pageantry are always welcome, especially if they are not yet stars, but on the cusp of being very familiar faces on the small screen. This one also happens to be the daughter of once-upcoming-actor Dennis da Silva (the same guy who was once linked to Ruffa Gutierrez during their showbiz heydays).
GMA contract artist Faith da Silva can easily belong to that category. She is tall (at least 5’7”) and pretty. Still a newcomer, she is getting good breaks of late – after landing one of the lead roles in a recently-finished afternoon teleserye and doing some marked guestings on the new sitcom of actor John Lloyd Cruz in the network. She can act and sing as well.
The question is: will the network green-light a possible foray into beauty pageants – seeing that she is now in the good graces of the executives who are keen on lining her up for more projects?
Can you picture Vince Canizares representing us in England for Mr. World 2014?
His full name is Jose Vicente Rodriguez Canizares. Friends and family call him Joevince, but in the modeling and entertainment industry, he is more popularly known as Vince Canizares.
You might remember him as the guy in the series of Greenwich Pizza TVCs where he played the role of one of the friends of John Lloyd Cruz (along with Mika Lagdameo-Martinez and Lloyd Zaragoza). But in the fashion world, he is a more established presence, having walked the ramp for some of the big named-designers in the country. He also dabbles in print ad projects and the like.
Now don’t let the 6’1″ Spanish-looking eye candy fool you. He is the offspring of Filipino-Spanish parents. He was born and raised in Cebu and studied only in Manila for a small part of his growing-up years.
A self-confessed travel bug, Vince has visited quite a number of countries, either as part of work or for leisure. He plays basketball and football for workout and stamina, but is also a permanent gym fixture during his free time.

Would you short-list him as a potential Mr. World Philippines 2014? I say, why not? 😉
If you haven’t seen the Jan/Feb 2011 issue of Preview Magazine, then better grab a copy now!
Tables were turned on Liz Uy, the glossy mag’s fashion editor, and is now its’ Cover Girl!
The one-time stylist of President Noynoy Aquino and ex-girlfriend of popular actor John Lloyd Cruz, she is hugging the headlines after rumors that she turned down the budding courtship of P-Noy. At the moment, she is said to be dating TV director and Barangay Captain Lino Cayetano.
Preview Magazine jumped into her bandwagon right away and presto, her usually stylish fashionista self is now on the cover! Good job! 😉
I just got out of the multiplex after watching the movie “In My Life” from Star Cinema. You have got to watch this one. Ms. Vilma Santos outdid herself and brought out the finest acting she has ever made – bar none – in decades. She is the master of her craft a la Meryl Streep. John Lloyd Cruz perfectly matched Ms. Santos and firmly established himself as the heir apparent to the likes of Christopher de Leon and the late Dindo Fernando & Jay Ilagan. The direction of Olivia Lamasan is perfectly tempered to come up with the best Pinoy Dramedy in years. It is one movie Pinoys can be proud of. And before I forget, Luis Manzano really made her mom proud in this one. His role may not be as demanding as the other two, but he made sure that his take will leave an indelible mark.
This early, I am predicting a grand slam for Ms. Vilma Santos and John Lloyd Cruz for Best Actress & Best Supporting Actor – respectively – in next year’s award derbies. The movie should also score numerous nominations and at least one Best Picture award or two, but it is the acting where it will rake in all the honors.
Here is the movie’s full trailer:

If you have issues about the movie’s gay theme, set them aside. The relationship between John Lloyd Cruz’ and Luis Manzano’s characters is pivotal but the plot goes well beyond that. I cannot give you spoilers but suffice it to say that you won’t be disappointed after watching the 2-hour flick. Catch it! Now Na!
