Mr. Nawatt Itsaragrisil must be in Cloud 9 after the announcement.
The profile of MGI2014 Daryanne Lees Garcia and the crown
Not that most of you, dear readers, will jump for joy with this latest development, but it still merits being blogged about.
Miss Grand International, as announced by Global Beauties, is now formally installed as a Grand Slam Pageant. That only means points will already be earned by the countries of the candidates who placed in the recently-concluded sophomore edition of the anti-war beauty pageant.
It will join the group presumably as a junior member of sorts, way below Miss Universe and Miss World, comfortably behind Miss International, and trailing Miss Supranational by double margins.
You know what this means, right? Miss Grand Philippines 2015 should be a real knockout. 😉
In their latest update of the Miss World 2013 Favorites Leaderboard, Global Beauties has placed our very own Megan Young in #1 spot.
Megan on top right now!
In a move that is the least bit surprising, Global Beauties has finally installed Miss Philippines Megan Young the pole position in their own version of the Miss World 2013 Leaderboard. Garnering a total of 4.81 points (out of a possible 5) among their select group of pageant analysts, Megan effectively becomes the running top favorite to win the crown if the finals will be held at this very minute.
Of course, we all know that previous trends have shown them to miss the eventual winner, but this is just their penultimate update so we’ll have to see who will really get the #1 spot in their judging wrap-up on September 27, a day before the coronation night.
Still, we are happy that Megan is living up to all the hype and hallelujahs coming her way. The mere fact that she is considered a serious contender for the title is proof enough that she is doing something right in Bali. 🙂
Miss Universe New Zealand 2012 Talia Bennett
The first and last time a New Zealander won the Miss Universe crown was way back in 1983 when Lorraine Elizabeth Downes downed the competition in St. Louis, Missouri. That was almost three decades ago. Do you think it’s time for another Kiwi to bring home the title to her country?
Global Beauties has recently picked her as the Face of the Universe 2012. Could it be a sign of positive things to come her way, or work the other way around and make her miss the cut to the Top 16?
I’m still not 100% sold to Talia’s chances, but the preliminaries might tell another story and see her zooming to the top of the charts and join the staple favorites so far. We’ll see… 😉
There is more to Queenie’s photos during her Shanghai visit with the 114 other delegates of Miss World 2012. In fact, she has been bonding with more newly-met ladies than she could ever imagine doing in a year’s time. Oddly, there is one very important picture that seems to be missing. If you will notice, there is a dearth of images (the official ones) showing her in the actual World Designer Event where she wore that fab Michael Cinco gown. Sure, there were personal shots taken among themselves backstage, but never a formal one where she can be seen walking the ramp. Even Global Beauties left a note that she is one of around a dozen ladies missing a pageant-taken pic of the activity. What’s even more baffling is that the videos circling the net always missed her centerstage appearance. Edited out, perhaps?
Just read what’s written above. Taken from the Global Beauties website.
Well, I don’t want to make a big deal of this detail, but it sure raises my newly-trimmed eyebrows just a wee bit higher than it should. Hopefully, she is not being shanghaied in any way.
Let’s continue supporting Queenie. Follow her on Twitter @MWPhilippines and encourage others to like her Facebook page as well. 😉
All in one frame: (L-R) Shamcey Supsup, 2011 Miss Universe 3rd Runner-Up; Gwendoline Ruais, 2011 Miss World 1st Runner-Up; Venus Raj, 2010 Miss Universe 4th Runner-Up.
It is not very often that you can see all three beauties in one picture, so when they recently attended the wedding of Selena Antonio (a mutual friend who joined Bb. Pilipinas 2010) together with their mentor Jonas Gaffud, cameras started flashing to get Shamcey Supsup, Gwendoline Ruais and Venus Raj in one click – something that People Asia Magazine was unable to do.

Both Shamcey and Gwnedoline are largely responsible for catapulting the Philippines to runner-up to Venezuela as ‘Country of the Year‘ (courtesy of Global Beauties) in terms of pageant performance in 2011. Can that feat be duplicated this year?
I hope! 😉
To date, there are 89 confirmed delegates for Miss Universe. In the photo collage above, only Misses Denmark, Sandra Amer Hamad and Kazakhstan’s Valeria Aleynikova, are missing because they were casted the latest. But according to Global Beauties, there will be 90 wannabes this year. Should that number happen, then this will be a new record for the pageant – the highest in any given year.
Well, be it 88 or 90, the race for the crown will remain the toughest. Each continent has at least 3 or more knockout entries that will make the short-list for Top 15 extra difficult without adding one or more. And there will always be the surprise performers who will suddenly bloom as pre-pageant activities start tapering off during the preliminaries.
For us who won’t be in Sao Paulo, let’s enjoy the 2011 edition because this one could be a nailbiter till the end. 😉
Global Beauties released its final leaderboard for Miss Universe 2010 going into the finals of the pageant in just a few hours.
They have Miss Ireland, Rozanna Purcell, as their top pick with Ximena Navarrete of Mexico, Venus Raj of the Philippines, Irina Antonenko of Russia and LaToya Woods of Trinidad & Tobago completing the Top 5.
Interestingly, they specified a separate group of girls tagged as members of Trump Class and which include the ladies from Canada, Slovak Republic, Great Britain, Romania and Poland. We all know how Donald Trump is enamored by ladies from Central Europe and those with descent from the same.
Let’s see how their list compares to the actual results.
We’ll have a new Miss Universe very very soon! 😉
