Twelve (12) ladies comprise the shortlist from where eight final choices will be fielded by Aces & Queens for Miss World Philippines 2019.

Nine of them are pictured above during the private screening held by the beauty camp. Here are hints on their identity:

1) a Fil British beauty, 2) a model and TV actress, 3) a runner up in a national pageant, 4) a speech pathologist, 5) a Balikbayan beauty, 6) a reigning queen and 7) a runner-up of a local pageant plus 8)the daughter of a beauty queen. The other beauties are first timers in beauty pageants.

Multimedia is one of the important fast-track events of Miss World 2016. And our Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray has gotten herself equipped for the segment. Yesterday, she got herself a new Leica-C camera that she will personally use for the entire competition in the US to take shots of the contents she will enter in her Miss World Philippines Facebook Page soon. We all know that she is good with putting into an engaging journal the daily activities and thoughts that come with the photos that will inspire her to write. And this early, I know that she will fill us in on her adventures in the competition with the required substance injected through her own words.

And on our part, we need to interact with her on the page where she will place all the entries. You know how important it is that she can raise awareness on a lot of things, while encouraging discussions in the process. I think we’re clear on this. Right, dear readers? 😉

Make-up Class by A&Q for Class of 2017


It’s true that beautiful luscious hair is a beautiful girl’s crowning glory. But an attractive face with properly-aligned features is the beginning of the story.

And that is where members of the Aces & Queens’ Class of 2017 started their training. Of course, all of them were properly assessed before plunging into the important session. And with the likes of Carissa Cielo Medved, Dave Grona, Raymond Galang and Jim Ryan Ros giving them more than just quick tutorials, it only takes a fast learner to easily stand out. Otherwise, it will be a rewarding uphill battle for a good number of them, especially the relative diamonds in the rough who need to be given extra doses of patience and understanding to learn the tricks of the trade.

I know all of their “teachers” and they are individually excellent in what they do on the face. And the young ladies should consider themselves very lucky to undergo the session under their masterful eye and hands.

What could be the next stop? The back-breaking pasarela and posing sessions with a “delightfully terrorizing” Jonas Gaffud? That should really set apart the innately graceful from the awkwardly painful (to watch). And I am pretty sure the original number will start getting smaller when the genuine stand-outs start blossoming one by one.

But wait! Before that happens, the Personality Development sessions should happen first. It started yesterday (photo below) with a few of the seniors (Ces Evangelista, Gerry Diaz and the lovable Head Facilitator Arnold Mercado along with guest speaker Bianca Guidotti) for the wide-eyed dreamers.

FB_IMG_1451826161606 As far back as I can remember, Aces & Queens has never had a pictorial of the whole team that was as properly set up as this. So when the lovely photographs taken by Dix Perez started showing up in the Facebook accounts of both Jonas Gaffud and Arnold Mercado, I said “Finally!” It could perhaps be the best time to do so after the camp has successfully helped in getting the 3rd Miss Universe crown (via Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach) for the country that matched well with our 1st Miss World victory (courtesy of Megan Young) for which they also got significant credits for.

So without further ado, let me just give you a quick rundown of the members in their grouped and family portraits.

Aces & Queens: So many plans for 2016

imageJonas Gaffud uploaded the picture in this post showing members of Aces & Queens during their first meeting for 2016. And what else could have been the agenda? Bb. Pilipinas 2016, for sure.

The famed beauty camp is not resting on its laurels, especially not after a splendid performance for 2015:

The plan is to stay well in the game, while riding on the wave of the Filipinas’ popularity in the global pageant arena and facing the challenge of helping bring more honors to the country. Not the easiest of missions to sustain but these individuals are headstrong in their passion, mission and vision.

And according to Jonas himself, the group is setting its sights beyond beauty pageants. Can’t wait to see what other chapters will be opened soon.

The hardworking Aces & Queens Team

  acesqueens1 Yesterday, Aces & Queens started screening the ladies who will form part of the beauty camp’s Class of 2016 for Bb. Pilipinas. Everyone was present – from Jonas Gaffud to John Cuay to Bessie Besana to Arnold Mercado to Gerry Diaz and more. Of course, the identities of the ladies (filtered from more than two hundred applicants) cannot be revealed just yet. It’s way too premature to even give hints or teaser photos. But this much I can say. All of them came out with smiling faces – a good sign that next year’s batch could be potentially an excellent one.

The names of the ladies who qualified will only be known at the right time. For now, let’s rest easy knowing that the group is going to prepare and train a new set of wow beauties who will vie for the quintet of titles for Bb. Pilipinas 2016.
