The three advocacies of the 2019 #Binibinis closest to my heart:
1. Reading and Literacy – I am a firm believer that starting the kids at an early age to enjoy reading is a great foundation that will guarantee their individuality, communication skills (be it in oral or penned formats) and the overall ability to fluidly express themselves as teenagers and young adults. Having worked in the academe for close to a decade justifies my defense for this cause (and literacy in general). Hence, I share this advocacy with #Binibini24 Nicole Guerrero and #Binibini25 Samantha Lo.
2. Agriculture – as someone born and raised in the Province of Bulacan where agriculture and fishery are two of the main sources of livelihood, I believe it is crucial to give due focus to the underrated concerns of the farmers and the fishermen. Without their hard-earned work, we won’t have enough rice, vegetable and fish to fill our dining tables with simple and nutritious fares. As such, I share this advocacy with #Binibini32 Mary Faye Murphy and #Binibini36 Francia Layderos.
3. Anti-bullying – growing up gay in a conservative rural society is not easy, let alone being constantly teased and bullied for being that effeminate youngster who is the constant target of bullying from people of different age groups. Of course, I have grown old and wiser – a more iron-clad gay man. As a result, I share this advocacy with #Binibini14 Leren Mae M. Bautista.
I hope one of them wins the P100,000.00 special surprise for getting the most number of likes on the Miss Universe Philippines Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/TheMissUniversePH/

Get to know #Binibini36 Francia Papa Layderos through the eyes of a farmer’s daughter who works as a travel channel host.
There might have been a time in the recent past when you got to watch the Island Living Channel on TV screens in the departure gates of your local or international flights. One of the pretty faces who explored different sights in the country and served as host is this lady who is now a #Binibini.
Fondly called by her friends as “Papaketchup”, 26 year-old France is a proud Albayana. She is an adventurer, mountain climber, lover of art and a culinary enthusiast.
Having grown up in the agricultural town of Libon in Albay, the rice fields served as her happy playground. Her parents are farmers whose hard and humble work enabled her to finish a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Bicol University.
By being part of Bb. Pilipinas 2019, she will continuously advocate for better policies and greater appreciation for agriculture. She believes in the abundance of our natural resources and the invaluable contribution of farmers to the Filipino economy.

Earlier at the launch of Ali X – the cool, hip and newest wing of Ali Mall at The Araneta Center, the 40 Binibinis of Bb. Pilipinas 2019 made their first public appearance. The ladies really enjoyed the Art+LifestyleXInterest vibe of the place.
Below are some of the photos taken during the event.
The Daragang Magayon 2015, which forms part of the Daragang Magayon Festival in Legazpi City, Albay, has always been a favorite regional beauty pageant of mine. For one, it has always been a rich source of beautiful Bicolanas who have the promising potentials of becoming candidates in national competitions like the Bb. Pilipinas, Miss Philippines Earth and Miss World Philippines. In the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas 2015 alone, Binibinis Mae Liezel Ramos, Princess Joy Camu, Ina Dominica Guerrero and Marvi Ann de Lima are proud products of the said tilt. But the more popular ones include Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Santiago and the late Bb. Pilipinas International 2009 Melody Gersbach.
And with the formal opening of this year’s festival on April 6 at the Albay Astrodome, here now are the twenty (20) Official Candidates for this year’s crown (Photos by Tyrone John). They are vying to become the successor of reigning winner Jacqueline Bernarte in the finals scheduled for April 28.
Below now are my early favorites to do well in the finals scheduled late next month.
My early choices from among the twenty are 1) Carmela Michelle Dolmer of Daet, Camarines Norte
