Miss Earth 2011 Olga Alava from the lens of Ronny Ayon Randich
As Olga Alava relinquishes her crown Saturday night, let me take this opportunity to thank her for a wonderful reign as Miss Earth 2011. Compared to compatriot Miss International 2011 Fernanda Cornejo whose reign peaked only at the start and towards the coronation night of her successor, hers was a far more busy and commitment-requiring stint. Foreign travels took her from Manila to several cities in Ecuador which was highlighted by a preservation project for the Galapagos Islands. As the titleholder and complemented by her strong fondness for Asia, she also went to Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, and Taiwan. She then segued to Miami and New York City with the help of the Ecuadorian government. She also made her first trips to Guam in the Pacific Ocean and then Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean and even Paris and Qatar. So as you can see, our queen has not had much time to herself and her loving boyfriend.
If that’s not enough, she is also the 2011-2012 spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – a hardworking Miss Earth indeed!
Photos of Olga Alava.taken during her last remaining days as Miss Earth 2011.
On behalf of all the pageant-following fans and environmental advocates here in the Philippines and around the world, let me shower you with this post full of adulation, plus a heartfelt ‘Muchas Gracias!’ Even for a year, you have been a shining example of what a true and relevant Beauty Queen really is.
Keep up the excellent work of protecting Mother Earth even if you have already crowned the next lucky lady.
And best of luck in all your future endeavors! 😀
(L-R) Elaine Kay Moll for Miss Supranational 2012, Katrina Dimaranan for Miss Tourism Queen International 2012 and Nicole Schmitz for Miss International 2012.
The photo above may show the ladies making fun of themselves. Truth be told, however, they are ready to represent the country abroad and do all Pinoys proud by hopefully bringing home the crowns in their respective pageants.
First to take off would be Elaine Kay Moll who will go to Sopot, Poland for Miss Supranational 2012 scheduled to be crowned on September 15. Our tall entry – who has the most eye candy of destinations so far – will definitely stand out vis-a-visthe other delegates of the Europe-based competition. Her departure date will be likely set for the last week of this month.
Next in line should be Katrina Dimaranan who will don the Philippine sash in Miss Tourism Queen International 2012 to be held in China (again!) with the finals set for September 28. It is possible that whatever the results of Miss World 2012 will indicate the kind of treatment she will receive in the same.
And then there’s Nicole Schmitz who is all excited to re-visit the Land of the Rising Sun for her date with destiny in Miss International 2012. The host city will be Okinawa, and the Mikimoto Pearl-encrusted crown will be relinquished by 2012’s Fernanda Cornejo on the evening of October 15.
Who will be the most successful among the three? I’d like to think that they will all leave their indelible marks in Poland, China and Japan. But Nicole and Elaine might end up with the more encouraging placements. Agree? 😉
Miss Universe Ecuador 2012 Carolina Aguirre
2011 was a banner year for Ecuador in grand slam pageants after topping both Miss International and Miss Earth via Fernanda Cornejo and Olga Alava, respectively. But while those two victories are well-regarded, the December-scheduled Miss Universe 2012 should be a real acid test on whether the country is truly an emerging powerhouse in beauty pageants and not just plain lucky with the near simultaneous crownings last November-December.
Carolina Aguirre could be the woman to erase all of Ecuador’s past Miss Universe woes. The 5’10” 20 year-old fashion model is not all beauty and glamour on the outside. She is also a student of Journalism at the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES) in Guayaquil. Her mother may be Argentinian, but the mix only adds more zest to her already standout features. During the national pageant, she scooped a lion’s share of the special awards including Best Face, Best Figure and Most Popular. Can she continue the winning mode all the way to the MU venue late this year?
I won’t mind if Carolina figures out well in Donald Trump’s list of preferred delegates. The roster of wannabes is getting ultra-strong by the month, though. Same as what I wish the other ladies…Good luck, girl! 😉
