Earlier today at the El Corazon Fil-Hispano Restaurant in Uptown Mall BGC, I had an intimate lunch with Manhunt International 2020 Paul Luzineau, his National Director Ryan Sheikrojan and selected members of the pageant media. It is always a pleasure spending quality time with this Dutch titleholder who was one of the last two individuals who won their international pageant assignments shortly before the worldwide pandemic left everything at a standstill.
Now that things are slowly returning to normal, Paul was able to travel to the Philippines almost three months ago to claim a part of his prize, i.e. a six-month modeling management contract with Empireph/Mercator. He will be staying in the country up until early October, by which time he has already relinquished his title to a successor who will come from the roster of Official Candidates for Manhunt International 2022 who will vie for the title come October 1. The said male competition will be hosted in the country from September 24-October 2.
Back to Paul, he has already acclimatized himself to the hot and humid weather of the country, but has yet to fully immerse himself into our local cuisines. As a self-taught cook, he prepares his own meals most of the time even if his skills are limited to standard European meals and the like. During the past two months, he has been given different projects and modeling assignments that further polished his skills in front of the camera and on the runway.
Asked about what ideal qualities his successor for Manhunt International should possess, this was his reply.
Between now and the end of September, Paul will be busy with his agency stints as well as being the big brother of this year’s candidates for the international competition.
As of this writing, Manhunt Philippines has already been appointed. Your blogger will write about him once everything is in place within the coming weeks.
Miss Universe Philippines strives to break pageant norms and build a new Miss Universe that promotes empowered beauty with a purpose through its new online series, Ring Light, which premieres on September 27, 2020 on http://www.empire.ph.
Going beyond preliminaries and the coronation night, Ring Light is the first of its kind in the world as it gives pageant fans a closer look at what it truly takes to become a beauty queen. From rigorous training to fascinating challenges and fun, behind-the-scenes activities, Ring Light proves that there’s more to beauty than meets the eye.
Composed of eight episodes, the series follows 50 aspiring Miss Universe Philippines candidates and takes viewers through their inspiring journey to the crown. Each episode will take the viewer through learnings, challenges, preliminaries, and finally, the coronation night.
A portion of each subscription will go to the candidates’ chosen beneficiary as well as partner organizations. Each Miss Universe Philippines candidate has a corresponding referral code that will directly benefit her chosen personal beneficiary. Fans can check out their favorite candidate’s Instagram page for the referral code and use it when purchasing their subscription.
“We’re very excited to launch Ring Light, the first-ever fundraising online pageant series that will allow fans to take the same journey to the crown while making a positive impact,” says Miss Universe Philippines National Director and Miss Universe 2011 Third Runner-Up, Shamcey Supsup-Lee. “With this online series, we hope to inspire our viewers to find their own light and empowerment and show that beauty is not only skin deep.”

Last night at the Eclipse Bar of Solaire Resort and Casino, the Welcome Dinner for Miss Universe titleholders Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Iris Mittenaere – plus the thirteen national titleholders who took part in Miss Universe 2017 – was held with selected guests and members of the media in attendance. It was quite the relaxed get-together where most everyone got the chance to have photos taken with the ladies and do some small talks in the process.
It was also the birthday of Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart and the three titleholders – Pia, Iris and Demi-Leigh – LED everyone in singing her a Happy Birthday song (watch video below).
Tonight, an invitational fashion show – as organized by Frontrow International with RS Francisco and Sam Verzosa at the held – will be held at the Grand Ballroom of Solaire where the visiting guests will walk the runway wearing creations of different local designers. And tomorrow, they will start enjoying the different tourist spots in the Philippines from Batanes to Vigan to CamSur and Boracay, all the way to Siargao. I hope they can keep up with the hectic but enjoyable trips!
Here are videos and photos from the Miss Universe Holiday Tour Press Conference held at the Dusit Club Lounge of Dusit Thani Manila.
Aside from the three Miss Universe titleholders – Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, Iris Mittenaere & Pia Wurtzbach – and MUO President Paula Shugart, thirteen Miss Universe 2017 delegates were also in attendance – Misses U.S.A., Spain, Singapore, Russia, Philippines, Netherlands, Malaysia, Italy, India, Korea, Great Britain, China and Canada.
The ladies are definitely having a lot of fun here, aside from being given the VVIP treatment all around. This Holiday Tour was made possible by Frontrow International, Empireph and the Department of Tourism Philippines.
