When Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina appeared in that pre-65th Miss Universe photoshoot for Aces & Queens and Mercator wearing the flaming red gown that elicited oohs and aahs from pageant followers, many wondered which designer was responsible for the eye-catching garb. Actually, I already blogged about his name months back when it came out. But this is an extended feature on Christian “Chan” Moya from Batangas.
I had an early exposure at an early age in my home town of San Juan, Batangas. My mom is also a designer. I guess it runs in the blood. Mama Renee Salud is a relative. I usually stayed at our workshop and made comments on my mom’s works, giving suggestions and all but never did it cross my mind to go into fashion designing as a career. I am a registered nurse (local and in the US) and even practiced for 3 years at Asian Hospital in Alabang. I was also able to take masteral units and nearing completion. Then I started missing the work that my mom does so I enrolled and completed several courses at FIP before starting to accept clients one at a time. I met Stylist Patrick Henry and he somehow opened doors for me to dress up beauty queens which started with Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2016 1st Runner-Up Janela Cuaton that led to the red Maxine Medina gown.
I always go for and find pleasure in designs that are simple yet elegant. And in incorporating my client’s vision with my own taste and aesthetics, I learned to trust my judgment when it comes to designing and thinking out of the box from what I had used to see back in my moms workshop. I make sure that there will always be drama in my works that will capture the audience. I always make sure to deliver the best versions of themselves whenever they wear my creation.
While I may have specialized in women’s fashion and bridal creations, I have also started exploring men’s fashion. Hopefully, I can combine all three in an upcoming project this coming July that will be my grandest as a Fashion Designer so far.
Watch out for more about Chan Moya as he starts creating noise in the fashion scene from here onwards. 🙂
