Taping for the big night (left to right): Bb. Pilipinas International 2012 Nicole Schmitz, Miss Universe Philippines 2012 Janine Tugonon, Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism 2012 Katrina Dimaranan and Miss Supranational Philippines 2012 Elaine Kay Moll
Look at the picture above.
And someone hold me down to my seat.
Is that a fourth crown on top of Elaine Kay Moll’s head signaling the formal recognition of a Miss Supranational Philippines 2013 or Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational 2013 for Bb. Pilipinas 2013?
Please indulge me because I can’t contain my excitement any longer. I would be extremely happy if four ladies will be crowned April 14. It will give my predictions just a little bit of breathing space.

Now, I’m ready to buckle down to the real business of making my own forecasts for the finals. 😉

This is a continuation of our post on the Operation Smile activity of the Bb. Pilipinas 2013 Official Candidates together with the five winners of Bb. Pilipinas 2012. Led by Miss Universe Philippines 2012 Janine Tugonon and Bb. Pilipinas-International 2012 Nicole Schmitz, the ladies can be counted upon to give joy to the young patients of the wonderful organization. Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism 2012 Katrina Dimaranan also helped out, together with Miss Supranational Philippines 2012 Elaine Kay Moll and 2nd Runner-Up Ali Forbes. 🙂

Yes, the Bb. Pilipinas 2013 screenings were conducted today. Behind closed doors, as expected. Nothing intriguing about that.
But what sets every pageant fanatic on fire at the moment is the presence of Bb. Pilipinas Tourism Katrina Dimaranan, 1st Runner Up Elaine Kay Moll and 2nd Runner Up Ali Forbes in the activity. Were they there to be screened as well?
Methinks that the three ladies attended so as to lend support to BPCI. Call me naive, but I don’t want to read into it too much.
I’d rather focus on the new breed of ladies who trooped to Gateway today, like Ara and Pia (pictured below).
Ara Arida (L) and Pia Wurtzbach Alonzo when they screened earlier.
Most of you might wonder why Pia Wurtzbach screened with the first group. Well, I can only venture into thinking that she will be using Pia Alonzo for Binibini purposes and not the W. So there!
2012 Miss Supranational Philippines Elaine Kay Moll
It is my personal opinion that Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) should seriously consider a formal crowning of the country’s representative to Miss Supranational starting this year, and be henceforth titled Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational. Here are my reasons why:
1) The Central Europe-based organizers of Miss Supranational have already proven themselves worthy of hosting an international beauty competition, as proven by past editions of the same.
2) At the moment, the same organizers have already started out reaching to countries that have not yet sent delegates to their pageant by way of encouraging prospective (and reputable) National Directors to formalize their participation and have an official representative for 2013-onwards.
3) Who doesn’t want to represent the country abroad and in a beautiful and scenic host city where only a few of us have visited as tourists? Any of this year’s Bb. Pilipinas candidates would love the opportunity.
4) Although not yet confirmed, there are talks that BPCI will no longer hold the franchise for Miss Universe Philippines by 2014, as ABS-CBN (reportedly and allegedly the new franchise holder) will conduct a separate search for the said title. Should this happen, they will be left with only two crowns to give out – International and Tourism – with the latter one being nominal so far given uncertainties about the continued existence of Miss Tourism Queen International. Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational can fill the void. It may not be as prestigious as Miss Universe Philippines yet, but it will eventually (and nicely) level up in a few more years.
5) Lastly, Miss Supranational is a Grand Slam Pageant after all.
So what say you, dear readers? Do you agree that it’s high time Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational be recognized, even only at the level of the extinct Miss Young Pilipinas and Miss Maja Pilipinas for now? 🙂
Are rumors true that BBP2012 2nd Runner-Up Ali Forbes is being seriously egged upon to join again this year?
Ali Forbes (R) and her mentor, John dela Vega – the main man behind Team JDV.
If earlier talks exist about Bb. Pilipinas 2012 1st Runner-Up Elaine Kay Moll rejoining Bb. Pilipinas 2013 to hopefully land a major crown for herself, then the buzz about Bb. Pilipinas 2012 2nd Runner-Up Ali Forbes trying her luck once more shouldn’t be too far behind. Janine Tugonon and MJ Lastimosa – their 2011 predecessors – did the same thing, except that only one of the two came out victorious.
Will Ali’s mentor, John dela Vega, give the green light to such a risky move? For Bb. Pilipinas to crown one of its runners-up so soon may not be the wisest outcome, coming off from the 2012 results. But stranger pageant ongoings have happened in the past, so there could be some juicy meat to the speculation. Abangan! 😉

Elaine Kay Moll during Miss Supranational 2012 in Poland.
When Elaine Kay Moll joined Bb. Pilipinas 2012 and wound up 1st Runner-Up during the finals, little did she know that BPCI Head Honcho Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta has bigger plans in store for her. She was more than happy placing in last year’s Top 5.
And when she was formally appointed as Miss Supranational Philippines 2012, things have gotten more rosy. Aside from a welcome trip to Poland, she received a queenly send-off. A 3rd Runner-Up finish in the international finals officially indicated that – given more training and exposure – she could be groomed for meatier pageant assignments. And so, the ‘Supra-going-Uni’ was born.
It’s not at all impossible. Elaine is not a crowned Bb. Pilipinas winner. And Janine Tugonon has already set a precedent. And she has surely tapped into the good graces of the Madame by now. And she is tall at over 5’11”. And she also comes from the famous Aces & Queens. And Jonas Gaffud polishing her even more is guaranteed. And she will be guided all the way by her predecessor (if ever) on how to take on the challenge of a Miss Universe four-peat. And I could go on enumerating all the details favoring her (probable) succession. And you will most likely be convinced by now.
I’m not putting my name on the line with this scenario. But it is one that bears serious watching. 😉
Clockwise, from top left: Miss Universe 2012 First Runner-Up Janine Tugonon; Manhunt International 2012 June Macasaet; Miss Supranational 2012 3rd Runner-Up Elaine Kay Moll; Miss International 2012 Semifinalist Nicole Schmitz; Miss World 2012 Semifinalist (8th Place) Queenie Rehman; Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot; Mr. World 2012 1st Runner-Up Andrew Wolff and Miss Earth 2012 Miss Air Stephanie Stefanowitz.
2012 was a very good year in Philippine Pageantry. And the honors weren’t just limited to mainstream beauty competitions for beautiful Filipinas. We also conquered both its Male and Transgender counterparts. A quick litany reads like an enviable record for other pageant-loving nations. Topping it all are placements in the Big 4: 1st Runner-Up in Miss Universe 2012, 1st Runner-Up (Miss Air) in Miss Earth 2012 plus Top 15 Semifinalist placements in Miss World 2012 and Miss International 2012. For Miss Supranational 2012, we also made it to Top 5 by taking 3rd Runner-Up honors. And then there is Mr. World 2012 with a 2nd place finish, preceded by a well-deserved win in Manhunt International 2012. Not to be outdone is the first-ever victory of the Philippines in Miss International Queen 2012. Whew! And I’m not yet adding a Top 5 reach of Janicel Lubina in the lesser-known Miss Scuba International or the Top 15 semis slot in Miss Asia Pacific World of Grendel Alvarado, plus last night’s victory of Rizzini Alexis Gomez as Miss Tourism International 2012!
All of these achievements by our representatives give the country excellent reasons to look forward to 2013 with unbridled enthusiasm.
Stay with me and together, we will journey into the Year of the Snake as our sash-wearers continue to slither (pun intended) their way to the top of the pageant world.
Happy New Year to one and all!!! 😀
