This year’s Academy Awards will be handed out at the Dolby Theater (formerly known as Kodak Theater) in L.A. later (tomorrow morning, Manila time) in the day. And since the event is also much-awaited with the red-carpet coverage showing all the celebrities in their breathtaking and/or show-stopping designer gowns, I’d like to know your opinion on whether the cuts of the creations above will go well with our Bb. Pilipinas Official Candidates. Most of them are way too haute couture for pageant purposes, but there are some that – with a few tweaks here and there – could work for our local pageant.

Elie Saab’s creation (left photo) worn by Halle Berry during the 2002 Oscars when she won Best Actress is one of the few that really stood out in my eyes. The design may have been outdated by now, but it still reeks of glam with a generous touch of sexiness without going overboard. While I don’t see the style being worn by any of our candidates unless the floor-sweeping gets edited, it does have its potential for good updating.
