The years spanning 1994-2000 are considered the Golden Age of Indian beauty queens in the global pageant stage. In that seven-year stretch alone, they managed to score two (2) Miss Universe wins and four (4) Miss World crowns. What’s more interesting is that they book-ended this period with victories in both Miss Universe and Miss World (1994 and 2000
) with a bonus Miss Asia-Pacific title in the latter year.
From 2001 onwards, everything seemed to be bleak up until Nicole Faria nailed Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam and Asha Bhat was declared Miss Supranational last year in Poland. It would also be interesting to note that India has never won Miss International with their latest (and highest) triumph being last 2003 when Shonali Nagrani placed 1st Runner-Up to Goizeder Azua of Venezuela.
Do watch now an old clip showing the reunion of Miss India winners last 2000 from where the photos above were taken from.

Will Navneet become India’s 6th Miss World titleholder?

1997 – Diana Hayden
1999 – Yukta Mookhey
2000 – Priyanka Chopra
Will 2013 be another Indian year in next month’s Miss World finals?
You see, Miss World India 2013 Navneet Kaur Dhillon is aiming high and for good reasons at that. She has been the most promising MW rep of her country in a long time. And with the consistently favored treatment given by Julia Morley to India in the pageant, I won’t be surprised if she gets far in the competition.
The question is, with the extremely busy batch of reportedly 160 delegates converging in Indonesia, will she be noticed more evenly than the rest?
At any rate, watch out for Navneet! 😉
One lady will have her life changed tonight.
Miss World Philippines 2011 will be crowned during formal pageant ceremonies at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and will earn the right to represent the country in Miss World 2011 to be held in London, UK on November 6. Since we’re more than halfway through September, the winner will be immediately whisked to more trainings, makeovers and fittings because she will definitely be flying to the contest site next month.
Among the 25 contenders, I have fearlessly trimmed down the list to what I term my “Pick 7 Ladies” – the ones who I feel are best fits for the mold of a Miss World candidate. They are, in this particular order of personal preference:
#13 Gwendoline Ruais
#24 Helen Nicolette Henson
#9 Martha Chloe McCully
#17 Erin Dolores Lane
#25 Erina Ann Lightholder
#1 Samantha Nerville Purvor
#12 Elaine Kay Moll
Obviously, my pick to win is Gwendoline Ruais. I simply love this statuesque Fil-French stunner. Gut feel tells me that she will rock the Miss World stage if ever. But close on her heels is Helen Nicolette Henson who will definitely give the former stiff competition. If not for a middling height, she could easily be a shoo-in for the top spot. Let’s see if one of these two ladies will nail the title tonight!
Reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills will crown the winner. The Board of Judges will include boxer Manny Pacquiao, actress Iza Calzado, Dr. Vicki Belo and Fashion Designer/Make-up Specialist Fanny Serrano.
Who’s your pick to win? 😉
Miss World Philippines 2011 will air over GMA-7 tonight at 10pm after Protege’
