At the poolside of Diamond Hotel Manila earlier in the day, the 88 Official Candidates of Miss Earth 2018 were presented to members of the media under the heat of what still looked like a summer sun. The number of arrivals was pegged at 90, but the entries of Ethiopia and Rwanda have yet to check in.
At any rate, there are so many beautiful faces in this batch of beauties. I hope that they also have the smarts and environmental savvy to go with it.
Unlike previous years, the organizers opted to do away with the voting for Darling of the Press. But even without such, it was already obvious who is being liked by most everyone. Early favorites are Telma Madeira of Portugal, Margo Faith Fargo of South Africa, Diana Carolina Silva of Venezuela, Diana Valdivieso og Ecuador, Melissa Flores of Mexico, Nirada Chetsadapriyakun of Thailand, Carolina Jane of Spain, Kristal Xamairy of Puerto Rico and Celeste Cortesi of the Philippines.

Darling of the Press Samantha Acosta of Pulilan, Bulacan
Earlier before lunch at the poolside of Diamond Hotel Manila, the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 Press Presentation was held with the heavy attendance from members of the media throwing in their support for the forty (40) Official Candidates who paraded in their Ricky Abad two-piece swimsuits inspite of the intermittent signs of drizzle threatening to dampen the proceedings. Thankfully, the sun resumed its burning heat midway and the event was completed without a hitch.
As traditionally practiced every year, the Darling of the Press was awarded with early favorite Samantha Acosta of Pulilan, Bulacan raking in the votes to win Gold. She was followed by yet another solid pick Kim de Guzman of Olongapo City who settled with the Silver. If you find yourself doing your grocery in any of the SM Supermarkets nationwide, chances are that you will spot an imposing (life-size) standee of a Miss Philippines Earth 2017 candidate meeting you right before entering the selling area. This is already a tradition in the environment-themed beauty competition with the popular supermarket chain being a major sponsor. And the ladies themselves are quite excited finding out where their respective images have sprouted in the country.
Anyways, the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 Press Presentation will happen at the poolside of Diamond Hotel Manila several hours from now (at around 11am to be exact), and this will be the best time to find out who the real front-runners are.
