Here are videos and photos from the Miss Universe Holiday Tour Press Conference held at the Dusit Club Lounge of Dusit Thani Manila.
Aside from the three Miss Universe titleholders – Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, Iris Mittenaere & Pia Wurtzbach – and MUO President Paula Shugart, thirteen Miss Universe 2017 delegates were also in attendance – Misses U.S.A., Spain, Singapore, Russia, Philippines, Netherlands, Malaysia, Italy, India, Korea, Great Britain, China and Canada.
The ladies are definitely having a lot of fun here, aside from being given the VVIP treatment all around. This Holiday Tour was made possible by Frontrow International, Empireph and the Department of Tourism Philippines.

And so the answer is now final. It’s a big NO to Miss Universe in the Philippines this year as per Department of Tourism Chief Wanda Teo in a news article
posted by ABS-CBN News. There has always been that wishful thinking on my part for Miss Universe 2017 not pushing through in the country either November or December. The stress and the major expenses that go with hosting are just too soon to be experienced all over again. Besides, there are far more important matters that the Government needs to address first, and I think that the situation in Mindanao is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak.
Will this development affect the chances of Miss Universe Philippines Rachel Peters? I don’t think so. The DOT is still giving everyone hope of a possible hosting in 2018.
If this holds water soon, then I would really be genuinely thrilled
Unlike my previous blog post, the initiative on holding Miss International 2017 in Manila is something that started from small talks that allegedly originated from the country’s Department of Tourism. And 15 hours before Christmas, I am telling you now that if everything goes beyond loose lip service and a Philippine delegation flies to Tokyo, Japan to make formal negotiations, then I would be genuinely thrilled for the dream event becoming a reality.
The now extinct Miss Young International competition has been held in the Philippines twice and consecutively from 1980 to 1981. Wouldn’t it just be more exciting to see the surviving Japan-based pageant (that has honored the Filipina six times now) to finally land on our shores? And with Kylie Verzosa as the reigning titleholder, crowning her successor here would be the real icing on the cake.
Start your comments now, dear readers. And Merry Christmas as well! My December 25 feature will be truly image-filled! 😉
Thank You! Maraming Salamat! Daghang Salamat!
I couldn’t think of a better way to start our Sunday Specials than to share the video made by the Department of Tourism where the Philippines says Thank You to the World for all the help extended to the devastated families of Supertyphoon Haiyan last year. It is simple yet heartwarming.
So to echo the message in the video below, let me pitch in my big THANK YOU as well! 🙂

Take your pick!
I remember the time when Philippine Airlines and the Department of Tourism (DOT) used to run a billboard after exiting the arrivals area of NAIA Terminal 1 & 2 by car. It carried a tagline that went something like…”Welcome to the Philippines…where Asia wears a smile”
Don’t you think Hannah Ruth Sison and Charmaine Elima would make perfect endorsers if the said billboards were to be resurrected and updated this year?
Anyways, who wears a smile (and a hat) better between the two? Whose pearly whites attract you more? 😀
The ten finalists of Ceska Miss 2013 arrive in Manila.
It’s certainly nice to know that the Top 10 finalists of Miss Czech Republic 2013 are in the Philippines as part of their pre-pageant activities. It’s nothing new to the organization since they have always sent their ladies abroad for out-of-Europe photoshoots and bonding. And the whole partnership helps the Department of Tourism’s “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign by extending its reach to Central Europe as the ladies visit such places as Palawan, Subic and Pampanga to use our pristine beaches and tourist spots as more than backdrops for the competition itself – clearly a win-win situation for both countries.
The ten lovelies are Denisa Grossmannova, Marketa Bfizova, Lucie Kovandova, Monika Leova, Kristyna Schickova, Anna Avakjanova, Alena Presnajderova, Ztuzana Jarackova, Andrea Kolarova and Gabriela Kratochvilova.
Perhaps, it also helped seal the deal that the Philippines is where Czech Republic won its latest international beauty crown via Teresa Fajksova (who will also be one of the judges during the national finals come March) in last year’s Miss Earth.
Let’s hope everything runs smooth during the ladies` stay. We want them to enjoy the vacation-cum-pre-pageant-cum-training camp to the fullest.
So as we all say…Mabuhay! Welcome to the Philippines! 😀

Isabella Manjon being crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism 2011 (Photo credit: Mabuhay Beauties)
Isabella will make a beautiful and refreshing endorser of the Department of Tourism indeed!
When Isabella Catipunan Manjon
was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism 2011 last April 10, the country’s Departmen of Tourism (DOT) finally found itself a new face to promote Philippine tourism. And what a beautiful face indeed!
This is not the first time that a Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism crown was handed out by BPCI. It was revived this year to make up for the absence of the previous Bb. Pilipinas-World title that has already changed franchise-holders. And I sincerely hope that the organizers cooperate with DOT to the fullest so as they can maximize Isabella’s one year reign as the latter’s Ambassadress. I’m pretty confident she can parlay her beauty and winsome personality to attract more visitors to the country by way of attending international tourism and trade fairs locally and abroad. She will also make a very refreshing endorser should a new DOT print ad or TVC be released in the following months. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that!
Now, should BPCI decide to appoint her as Philippine representative to one of the smaller beauty pageants in the region, then I can confidently state that Isabella will make waves and bring honor to the country. I’m keeping my fingers crossed again for such possibility!
Regardless, I am hoping that Isabella does not end being just a nominal beauty queen cutting ribbons here and there or making lame personal appearances in basketball games or (worse) cockfighting championships hosted by the Aranetas. Since there is no guaranteed international competition earmarked for her title, there has to be more interesting projects to make her reign more useful and memorable. 😉
