I seldom chat with a lady for the first time where the subject matter revolved around how I started blogging and what books and movies inspired me to create a signature writing style. That is exactly what happened during my first online encounter with Asha Gutierrez. And boy, did I enjoy it. I have already seen and observed her in person – enough to encourage me to make an entry about this thinking beauty whose name in Sanskrit means “wish, desire, hope”.
Asha is not your typical pageant joiner. She has the mix of an introverted/artistic personality with an occasional outward leaning. She is a writer and entrepreneur who loves to dance Salsa and Latin. Before graduating from the De La Salle University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature, she was an active athlete who trained with the national team in not just one, but two sports – basketball and boxing. Priority was given to her studies, though. The closest she returned to either of the two disciplines was when she took on Assistant Coach duties to young students.
Back to her name which – in Sanskrit – means “wish, desire, hope”, Asha got her baptism of fire in pageantry when she joined Miss World Philippines 2019. It was like coming out her shell, so to speak. She followed this up with Global Asian Model Philippines shortly after just so she can make a good comparison of the two different competitions. The experience made her realize that beauty contests are better suited to her liking because she can express herself more as a potential Beauty Queen than going deeper into the world of runway shows, editorial shoots and the like.
The wish stems from this point – to join another national pageant in 2020 given the desire to win a crown. Hopefully, she is fated to have one of her own. Sooner or later. And with this, I end with a quote from one of my favorite authors Daphne du Maurier:
”A dreamer, I walked enchanted, and nothing held me back.”
Get to know your #Binibini3 Martina Turner Diaz through her love for cooking.
Martina may not be a chef, but she can whip you up a mean dried adobo or panko-crusted katsu in the kitchen. She can even prepare expertly-rolled sushi on the side if you wish.
This 22 year old – who traveled the world as a Flight Attendant of Philippine Airlines – is a graduate of Business Administration who’s currently taking up her MBA at De La Salle University.
While she confesses to being the product of a broken family, Martina is proud that she was raised in a loving household by her grandparents. Her #nanay always instilled the values of being compassionate, charitable and hardworking in carrying out her dreams.
As a youngster, Martina encountered challenging life circumstances that any weak-willed child would crumble under. Not her. She developed the tenacity to hustle hard and the strength of character to accomplish what she puts her mind into.
Our Binibini hopes to inspire the young generation to believe that – with perseverance and compassion – people can better their lives and those around them.
Martina Turner Diaz
She is a 22 year-old beauty who professionally travels around the world as a flight attendant. Half Filipino, half-American in descent, she graduated from DLSU Benilde (Antipolo) with a degree in Marketing Management. She is currently taking up her Masteral studies in Business Administration.
A resident of Muntinlupa City, she is toying with the idea of representing Roxas, Isabela if and when she makes it to the nationals.
Let’s see where Martina’s pageant dreams will bring her to.

Congratulations to Bb. Pilipinas 2015 1st Runner-Up Hannah Sison who will be graduating from De La Salle University in two days.
She is now a Master in Communication, Major in Applied Media Studies – an achievement she started pursuing simultaneous with her reign last 2015.
Job well done, girl! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
And with her love life (see left photo) also in full bloom, she couldn’t ask for anything more!
Beautiful and winsome Cassandra Naidas
From De La Salle University comes 22 year-old Cassandra Naidas. The tall (5’8″) Psychology graduate has been into modeling stints here and there, but nothing that would make her a staple on the ramp during fashion shows and the like. Finishing her tertiary studies was the main priority. So now that she has more free time in her hands, why not a side trip down Binibining Pilipinas’ way? The girl’s face has a distinct quality and a figure that is long, lean and easy to develop. With the right makeover plus strict runway/posing training – hopefully from the masters – I bet she’s got a bright future ahead in pageants.
I’m pinning a bright yellow marker on Cassy. She’s certainly worth more than a callback. 😉
