Flying the friendly skies is one career option that a number of our Bb. Pilipinas winners and candidates take into serious consideration after their pageant days are over.

Take for example Bb. Pilipinas World 2010 Czarina Catherine Gatbonton and Bb. Pilipinas 2013 Official Candidate Rhea Nakpil. Both have pursued their good fortunes in separate airline companies but for the same job.

Czarina is now a Flight Attendant of Saudi Arabian Airlines (or SAUDIA) and there is an excellent chance of getting an encounter with her if you’re Middle East-bound as an OFW. Rhea, on the other hand, is with Philippine Airlines (PAL), so both domestic and international guests are likely to see her in air action.

Back to Sanya, Miss World 2015 will be.

A week before Christmas this year. December 19, to be exact. That’s when Miss World 2015 will be staged. And for the 6th time, the resort city of Sanya, China will play host to more than a hundred national representatives from all over the globe who will vie for the blue crown currently being worn by South Africa’s Rolene Strauss.

Alexandria Mills of the USA was the last to be crowned in Sanya, and Bb. Pilipinas World 2010 Czarina Gatbonton was our country’s unplaced rep then. Will the tide change this year? Or will Sanya continue to be a less giving host for Miss World Philippines? What do you think, dear readers? 😉

Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson knew very well that she got an old crown for the brand-new title she won. If memory serves me right, this was last seen in the late 80s or early 90s (I just can’t place the last wearer now). It still had the bridge crossing the circumference of the round base that prevents it from fitting nicely in anyone’s head. Hence, the final effect makes it appear to be slightly levitated, owing to the number of hairpins that keep it in place. There is actually a small prick of pain in having it pinned on top, especially if the person helping is not very careful.

image But is our Queen complaining? A little perhaps, but nothing that would make her go tantrums over. She got the honor, plus the record of being its very first titleholder. But would she appreciate it if her successor will get a better one? Oh, for sure!

For possible starters, why not re-use the Bb. Pilipinas World crown (left photo) last worn by Czarina Gatbonton in 2010?

It sure would look a lot better on whoever is going to win Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2015. 😉

Beauties United: Runway for Hope

Regardless of pageant affiliations, our beautiful Filipinas who either won national crowns or placed in the same (including those who were candidates) gathered together for last Sunday’s Charity Fashion Gala at the Grand Ballroom of Ace Hotel & Suites. They walked the ramp and in the process, helped raise funds for the ST Yolanda victims.

Kudos to Team JDV’s John dela Vega – who was at the helm of the event – as he was able to pull together these ladies from various organizations such as Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc., Miss Earth Foundation, Miss World Philippines and Mutya ng Pilipinas Quest Inc.

Above are the 10 ladies I'm liking for Reyna ng Bulacan 2013.

For many years now, the province of Bulacan (where your blogger grew up in) has always been a rich source of beauty contestants. Some of them were successful (like Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2004 Maricar Balagtas and Bb. Pilipinas World 2010 Czarina Gatbonton), fairly successful (BbP2012 2nd Runner-Up Ali Forbes plus previous Miss Philippines Earth elements Dianne Hernandez and Dennise Toribio), relatively familiar (Bb. Pilipinas 2013 alumni Merry Joyce Respicio, Camille Nazar and Jhan Helen Villanueva) and already forgotten (what are their names again?).

This year, Reyna ng Bulacan has assembled a group of 26 young hopefuls who will vie for the provincial title in the finals scheduled for September 13. I made an early assessment of the ladies and all I can say is that this is a good batch where at least 1/3 of the official aspirants are showing a lot of promise.

While I don’t have the official stats to verify their individual heights yet, I can see faces that can be trained and polished for the big league (paging Team JDV, this is your territory!). I won’t be surprised if I get to see a few of them screening for next year’s national finals. After all, the top winner is almost always Bb. Pilipinas-bound, just like the reigning titleholder Merry Joyce Respicio.

MG may have lost Bb. Pilipinas 2013, but she will still compete abroad.

image After a disappointing non-placement in Bb. Pilipinas 2013, Mercegrace Raquel seemed headed back to her normal life. But since Team JDV’s John de la Vega is the go-to-guy in the Philippines of the organizers of Miss Humanity International, she found herself in the spotlight again. While the Barbados-based competition lacks the prestige and huge following of other international beauty pageants, it remains solidly on track going into its 3rd edition.

And so, Mercegrace will soon follow the footsteps of Czarina Gatbonton (2011) and Ayelee Marie Dasalla (2012) who represented the country in the same and wound up in the Top 5. She could be looking at finally nailing the crown, given MHI’s propensity for dark, exotic beauties.

Once all her traveling documents and wardrobe are in order, she should still have enough time to condition herself for the competition’s crucial dates – July 7-15, 2013.

Bridgetown, watch out for Mercegrace! 🙂

It was a beautiful dinner alright.

Hosted by pageant supporter John Morante and held in honor of A&Q’s Ara and Pia (lovingly called “The Paandar Girls), the Spanish food buffet (at Metrowalk’s Taberna Tapas y Vino) was sumptuous. The drinks overflowed. And the lovely ladies lent their presence to make the night extra special. There’s Miss Universe Philippines 2013 Ara Arida, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010 Venus Raj, Bb. Pilipinas 2013 1st Runner-Up Pia Wurtzbach, Bb. Pilipinas-International 2011 Dianne Necio, Bb. Pilipinas-World 2010 Czarina Gatbonton, Miss Supranational Philippines 2012 Elaine Kay Moll, Miss World Philippines 2012 First Princess Mary Ann Ross Misa, Bb. Pilipinas 2011 2nd Runner-Up Mary Jean Lastimosa and Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism 2011 Isabella Manjon. To top it off, Aces & Queens head honcho Jonas Gaffud, together with Arnold Mercado, John Cuay and Mark Besana joined the happy get-together as well.

Here are a few tidbits about some of the girls:

– Up close and personal, Ara Arida is 5x more beautiful than in pictures that we see. Her aura is a mix of sweet, sultry and down-to-earth. Without cameras or videocams tailing around, she moves and speaks in a visibly relaxed state. And oh, she loves her food spicy!

– Pia Wurtzbach is a delight to have dinner with, no pretensions whatsoever. Her face is beautifully hypnotic, just as her stance and sexy body can drive any onlooker crazy.

– I can’t get over the fact that Elaine Moll could no longer compete in a future Bb. Pilipinas because of her Miss Supranational Philippines title which wasn’t even awarded during the 2012 finals night. The girl’s height is enviable and her beauty simple but alluring. She was seated very close and never fails to flash her winsome smile everytime we engage in small talk.

– Mary Ann Ross Misa, to my pleasant surprise, has tentative plans of re-joining Miss World Philippines 2013. And I couldn’t help but give my thumbs up on the spot. She remains ravishing and unquestionably warm. She offered a hug the moment she realized that I am the blogger who featured her more than twice in the past.

– Shamcey Supsup was with boyfriend Lloyd Lee, and it’s very evident that the two lovebirds are very much into each other. Both gamely played along with the banters all throughout the night.

– And Venus Raj? This woman is a lovable character without a doubt. She makes anyone feel at ease in an instant. And I love it that she has noble plans for the future, like putting up a foundation for the education of poor children. Do I smell a political career in a few years’ time?

I wish I could’ve stayed much longer, but early Monday work still beckoned.

jennylinemalpaya311 Tall and graceful Jennyline Carla Malpaya is another Bulacan lass being eyed as Bb. Pilipinas 2013 screenee. The 5’9″ beauty is 21 years old and a Hotel & Restaurant major at the University of the East-Caloocan where she also once reigned as its Campus Queen or Miss UE.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Jennyline is said to be under the tutelage of John dela Vega (of Ali Forbes & Czarina Gatbonton fame). Will he be able to bring out the best in the statuesque Bulakenya come reporting time for the Bb. Pilipinas screenings next month? We’ll see.

All I know is that my province might end up sending really tall aspirants for the pageant. 😉

Jamaica wins Miss Humanity International 2012; Ayelee places 3rd

Just as all of us were caught up with the marathon live stream of Miss International 2012, a smaller pageant was concluded last October 20 in Georgetown, Barbados when Lesa Gayle Wee Tom of Jamaica was crowned Miss Humanity International 2012. Our very own Ayelee Marie Dasalla was named 2nd Runner-Up and recipient of the People’s Choice Award. Other ladies in the Top 5 were the representatives of Guyana (1st Runner-Up), Netherlands (3rd Runner-Up) and Australia (4th Runner-Up). Kudos to Ayelee for matching the efforts of Czarina Gatbonton in the first edition last year! 😉

Ayelee Marie Dasalla, Miss Humanity International Philippines 2012

Ayelee Marie Dasalla is all set to depart for Georgetown, Barbados to represent the country in Miss Humanity International 2012 where she will arrive this coming weekend. Prior to the formal send-off yesterday, John dela Vega’s team (including designer Poi Subijano) has made sure that she is 100% ready for the pageant in the Caribbean. From the time of her participation in Bb. Pilipinas last summer, she has lost more weight to come out sexier and more competitive. Our bet last year, Czarina Gatbonton, placed third. Will she place higher or possibly, bring home the crown itself? 🙂

The finals for Miss Humanity International 2012 is scheduled for October 20 at the Barbados Beach Club. In the meantime, show Ayelee some love and support by casting an online vote for her. Click HERE.
