After winning the Miss Asia title twice (and back-to-back) in 1982 and 1983 courtesy of Carines Zaragoza and Bong Dimayacyac, the Philippines finally claimed its first Miss Asia Pacific crown via Lorna Legaspi when she competed in Hong Kong back in 1989.
The first image above shows a recent photo of Lorna (taken last April) where she is wearing a blue gown by Designer Paul Rex Ramir Mateo. Second image (on the left) is her crowning as MAP1989 by outgoing titleholder Preeyanuch Panpradub of Thailand. Third image )(below) is the courtesy call with then Philippine President Corazon Aquino along with some of her runners-up.
Onwards to Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 next month!
An old photo of the late Pres. Cory Aquino beside the tomb of Ninoy Aquino (in Manila Memorial Park Paranaque) where she will also be laid to rest on Wednesday, August 5.
Former Philippine President Corazon C. Aquino passed away at 3:15am today (August 1) after a long and painful struggle with colon cancer. The beloved former leader died in the company of all her five children at the Makati Medical Center.
Let us offer our prayers for the eternal repose of her soul.
She will be missed.
Update: I watched Kris Aquino’s long narrative on TV about her mom’s last few weeks battling cancer and I have to admit that I shed a lot of tears. I am happy to hear, though, that she passed away peacefully while her two daughters (Kris and Ballsy) were reciting the rosary during the night vigil.
