It’s a good thing the different organizers using the Tourism slant in their international beauty competitions are not fighting over the use of the word. This one’s holding the Miss Tourism International title that is identical to what Kuala Lumpur will hold on New Year’s Eve (and where Glennifer Perido is headed to). The only difference is the host city – Shenzhen, China. And our representative is Christine Paula Love Bernasor. Remember her? She was Miss Scuba Philippines 2013 and 1st Runner-up in Miss Scuba International 2013. Just the other day, she was already named one of the Top 10 in National Costume (see left photo). And right now, she is all pumped up for the finals this coming Friday.

Somehow, it gets me down why all of these Tourism pageants are happening left and right, while passing by Bb. Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah who is more than eager to wear the Philippine sash abroad. It’s a pity that the only Tourism title BPCI is holding the franchise for is the one that is not pushing through. Bummer, if you ask me.

Anyways, let’s wish Christine the best in the contest. May she soar higher than her placement during last year’s Miss Scuba International. šŸ˜‰

missglobal1 There are 23 Official Candidates for Miss Global Philippines 2014 presented to the Press at Hotel H2O late morning yesterday. The winner will represent the country in Miss Global 2014 scheduled to happen aboard the Crown Princess Cruise (sailing from L.A. to Mexico) come December 19. For now, the coronation night is scheduled for October 11 at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre of Resorts World Manila. So just to introduce the beauties in the photo grid above, here are their names:

misscuba20141 During the Media Lunching of Miss Scuba Philippines 2014, last year’s Christine Paula Love Bernasor – who placed 1st Runner-Up in the international competition – was around to welcome guests. This year’s search promises to be more exciting than the last, with the eventual winner taking home PhP150,000.00 in cash plus the right to represent the country in Miss Scuba International 2014 to be held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on November 28.

According to the Press Release, “Applicants for this year’s pageant must be a Filipino Citizen, 18 to 28 years of age, at6 least 5’4′ in height, able to converse in English, know how to swim and a certified diver (at least on the first level), willing to promote marine conservation and Scuba Sport, of good health and good moral character, single and never been married and never given birth to a child, and not under contract to any firm, person or organization.”

Since it’s Maundy Thursday, I thought of posting about something calm, but still related to Bb. Pilipinas.

I just read this interesting blog post made by one of the Official Candidates. #18 Christine Paula Love Bernasor wrote about her personal take on the non-stop downs of becoming a beauty contestant and how to inject positivity in every negative circumstances along the way. Here goes…

I know joining Bb. Pilipinas would mean allowing everyone to have a say on your beauty and I am not new to getting negative comments on how I look.

I found out at an early age how most of the Filipinos prefer fair skinned and those who are half of something.
Here are just some of harsh words that some people told me.

1. You are ugly.
2. You don’t have the face to make it to a pageant.
3. You look like our maid/katulong.
4. Your teeth is ugly.
5. You look like one of the girls who are out at night looking for foreigners.
6. You will never make it.
7. You are just intelligent, join a quiz bee not a pageant.
8. You are weak and useless.
9. No guy will ever love you.
10. Why did you make it to the final 50 candidates, there are prettier girls than you.

What do I say to them?

paula1 I say nothing. I am the type of girl who would never let other’s judgement put me down. I have been dealing with negativity since I was young. After being told I don’t have the looks to make it to a pageant, I trained hard and won First Runner Up in Bb. Ormoc 2009. What I do is simple, I use those negativity to push me further up. It makes me work harder and I always see it as a challenge to prove them wrong. The only mistake one can make in this life is to allow people to get the best of you and ruin your life. Always think past the negativity, being positive in yourself and the people around you are the only options to make the most out of life. Be happy, not everyone will like you but make sure to live a life that will make you into someone you yourself will love. For me beauty will always be more than a physical attribute. People can judge you on how you look. Beauty from within will always be eternal and it’s the kind of beauty that makes this world liveable and beautiful. So don’t fret and ditch the negativity.

I like the attitude of this girl. Don’t you? šŸ˜‰

a) The four towers of this batch – 5’10” Cassandra Naidas, 5’11” Merry Joyce Respicio, 5’11 3/4″ Anna Buquid and 5’10” Valiry Vispo got all the middle numbers – 24, 25, 26 and 27 – respectively.

b) While not the shortest among the 50, 5’7″ish Ria Rabajante got assigned the important #1 pin and will always lead the 50 when being presented or paraded.

c) Bence Bianzon got assigned the #2 pin. This could only mean that BPCI wants a 1-2 punch whenever the candidates are being called for introduction and other pre-pageant activities.

d) Early favorite Pia decided to use Wurtzbach as her surname for the competition. Although this would reflect differently (read: looked at as less Asian by foreigners) should she win and be fielded abroad, there still remains the ‘itching’ theory of carrying a ‘double-U’ (W) in the same.

e) The last number (in this case, #50) is usually one of the least looked-at candidate (perhaps the audience is already dead-tired by the time it reaches the end), but BPCI has gotten into the habit of assigning a lady with striking features here. Last year, it was Latina-looking Sherlyn Gonzales (#30). This year, it’s another Latina-looking Krisma Pascual who’s at the tail-end.

f) Last year, the lucky numbers were 18 (Janine Tugonon), 8 (Nicole Schmitz), 13 (Katrina Dimaranan), 15 (Elaine Kay Moll) and 29 (Ali Forbes). Will good fortune follow Paula Bernasor, Abby Monderin, Charmaine Elima, Pia Wurtzbach and Pauline Quintas in that order? Probably for two of them at best. šŸ˜‰

When I stated in an earlier post that a participating Filipina in Miss Scuba International is capable of wiping out the competition, my confidence wasn’t shattered when I finally saw the ten (10) ladies competing for Miss Scuba Philippines 2012. At least half of the group is strong enough to wrest the title once fielded in the world finals to be held in Bali, Indonesia come November 30.

I can see any one among Janicel Lubina, Hannah Joy Demit, Christine Paula Love Bernasor, Raizza Guerra and Maria Espinoza as potential winners of the local contest, and easily stand out against the delegates from other countries (which include Australia, Belgium, China, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Panama, San Marino, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States).

One of them will be crowned winner on October 27 at the Toyota Asian Cultural Center inside the UP Campus in Diliman. Whoever she is will travel to Bali to participate in diving expeditions and marine conservation projects prior to the coronation night at the Samur Paradise Hotel. My Top 2 picks are obviously Janicel and Hannah Joy. Hopefully, one of them comes out on top. šŸ˜‰
